I live the equivalent of a half marathon length from Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, San Diego. This weekend there will be an air show at Miramar. I can hear military jets above my house now preparing for the show. Early in my Navy career, I was stationed at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, and came to love the sound of military jets. Decades later, that sound still lets me know that our military services are protecting our country.
The women and men in our Armed Services are currently facing challenges unlike any in the past. I am absolutely confident that that will continue to uphold the oath they swore upon enlistment: to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic".
Please keep these heroes in your thoughts during these troubling days.![]()

Why have all the military leaders been summoned to Virginia?
The heroes protecting us deserve better than Hegseth. Scary, scary times.

I read that the perpetrator of yesterday's attack on the Church of Latter Day Saints was a member of the marine corps.
It's absolutely vital that adequate mental health support is provided to veterans on completion of their service. Too many are fcked up forevermore.

Both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps are celebrating 250th anniversary birthdays in 2025. They were originally established in 1775. Navy: October 13th. Marine Corps: November 10th.
GO NAVY !!

In light of today's travesty, it is simply impossible for any honorable soldier to serve under Trump as Commander in Chief. Those who remain loyal to him at this point are the enemies of freedom.

What a stupid, filthy comment. Even for you.

In the interests of honesty, I should acknowledge that I edited my comment (while Highland Guy was responding) to tone down my rhetoric. Before, I said they were "scum," not just "enemies of freedom." But I stand by it either way.

Are you saying that an honorable person could agree to carry guns for, or take orders from, the likes of Donald Trump? Because that would be a stupid thing to say - even for you.

Even revised, it remains a filthy, stupid comment. You know NOTHING about what stresses our troops are under. So, politely, SHUT THE F*CK UP.

At what point can troops consider the possibility of a coup? We’ve seen it in other countries. Look what happened only recently when the madman in South Korea tried to weaponize the military against his own people. It didn’t end well for him.
South Korea are a civilized democracy, not much different from the US. What is SO outrageous about pondering if something similar could happen with Trump?
I’m not necessarily advocating for it right now, like I said, just pondering. This moment in history is unprecedented, which means unprecedented things need to happen to solve it.

HG, what do you think of "conscientious objectors"? That's really all kdogg is asking for, it seems to me. Not unreasonable.

Thanks to Senator Mark Kelly for his comments tonight in support of the women and men who serve courageously in our military services. And thanks also to Senator Kelly for his honorable military service.
His strong words put to rest the filthy, disgusting LIE that our military members are SCUM. They are HEROES who day after day defend The United States of America.

"I, (insert name), do solemnly swear to support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same... that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of those officers appointed over me according to regulations and the uniform code of military justice. So help me God."
What if the domestic enemies include the President of the United States?

Jay, thanks for phrasing my proposition much more perspicuously than I was able to. I think it's a critical conversation to have, though of course I don't expect that conversation to get very far on the BWW off-topic board. ![]()

If you and your lap dog kdogg are so gung ho about what our brave military members should do, why don't you BOTH take the oath, put on uniforms, and join the good fight? Why are you letting others do the fighting for you? Are you afraid?
Oh, I forgot. Internet trolls are always cowards

Why can't you just answer the question that was asked?

It was a thrilling air show for hundreds of thousands.
And to quote one of America's brave heroes in this brief video, "It's about PRIDE and SERVICE".

I have not yet joined the military because I’m a) unsure if I want to, b) unsure if I have the mental and physical stamina, c) believe my skills to be of more use elsewhere in "fighting the good fight", d) am extremely wary of the Military Industrial Complex, of which Eisenhower warned us about decades ago, e) never fell for the Uncle Sam Needs You propaganda, and f) have other more immediate and important familial responsibilities.
Does this really make me a coward?
Slight whiff of toxic masculinity off of HG's post.
P.S. Kdogg is not my lap dog, nor I his. I’m sure if we dug deeper, we'd find plenty to disagree on. Which I’m confident both of us would be fine with, because we don't deem those who don't exactly align with our own world view to be trolls and bullies.
P.P.S. Thanks for that link, Steve.

To throw the question back at you, Highland Guy…
why did YOU join the military? I’m sure you had noble intentions and aspirations, but I’ve always wondered why you signed up (illegally?) for somewhere you were not welcome. You've spoken of meeting your husband in the navy, and finding happiness together. How did that work in such homophobic times?

Eisenhower's dark warning. Sadly ignored.
I wonder what he would have thought about Vietnam, Iraq, etc.

Back on topic.
Very close to MCAS Miramar is the Miramar National Cemetery. I have many friends and former shipmates buried here. My first commanding officer lies in rest here. If you want to learn about HEROES, visit a national cemetery. Countless service people and their spouses since this country was formed willingly gave up much in support of the USA. Others continue to do so today. They are not SCUM.
