Morning, folks. So I'm stuck in a Boston hotel room and I've been up since four because my dad snores like the bastard child of Shrek and John Goodman. Ear plugs aren't really helping. Anyone have any tips or stories?

I've heard those nose strips (for colds) do wonders. But you have to get the snorer to wear it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Just saw a thing on the news that said the nose strips really don't work as well as they say. I heard a teaspoon of olive oil works.

I used to snore so loud, I would wake myself up. Then I had sinus surgery. No snoring for almost ten years. I started snoring a little bit again, so I know it's time for a checkup, but the surgery was worth it. I also suffered sinus infections three to four times a year. Now, they are extremely rare.

As for your predicament, if you're on vacation, it's not easy to deal with. Ear plugs, if you can stand them. Sometimes a sound machine helps.

I'm sure it's far too late to help, but when I traveled with my dad, I always found the white noise from turning the AC on low helped, or if the light and noise doesn't bother him, turning the TV on at a low volume on something very neutral that won't capture your interest but will give you a sound to concentrate on other than the snoring (the weather channel, home shopping, a religious channel). I'm always out before the sleep timer cuts it off.

"I used to snore so loud, I would wake myself up."

OMG, my mom does that!! It's actually pretty hilarious to watch.
