Posted: 9/27/10 at 2:18pmShe was extraordinary and luminous in TITANIC. The movie would not have had the same impact for me had she not been its centerpiece. A wonderful long life. May she rest in peace, and condolences to her colleagues and family.

She'll always be THE INVISIBLE MAN star Gloria Stuart to me, but hey.
RIP dear lady. Flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Seriously, what an amazing life. Rest in peace!
Q - you may be correct, she's such a beautiful woman, it wouldn't surprise me if she looked too young to be "old" Rose!

Posted: 9/27/10 at 4:36pmThey may have aged her. She was in her late 80s when they filmed Titanic and Rose was supposed to be 101.

I never realized it was her in The Invisible Man.

"She was in her late 80s when they filmed Titanic and Rose was supposed to be 101."
Rose is actually still 100 through out the movie. They mention this at the beginning.
BODINE: She's a goddamn liar! Rose DeWitt Bukater died on the Titanic when she was 17. If she had lived, she'd be over 100 by now.
LOVETT: 101 next month.
BODINE: Okay, so she's a very OLD goddamn liar!
So she was the same age as her character, and like her film counterpart I hope she died warm in her bed.

Posted: 9/27/10 at 11:03pmI am very saddened by her passing. May she rest in peace. At the end of TITANIC (at the section where James Cameron has the audience guessing) I always thought she had passed away peacefully in her sleep before the dream sequence. Quite a coincidence that she lived as long as her TITANIC counterpart would have. RIP, Gloria Stuart. Your memory will go on...

Posted: 9/27/10 at 11:07pmAfter rewatching "Titanic' recently I thought her and Kathy Bates were the best people in it. Kate was great and so was Leo, but Gloria's performance was obviously the best RIP.

She had a good run, as people have said. RIP
I loved her in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm with Shirley Temple, and The Invisible Man with Claude Rains, but Titanic was her performance "for the ages." She was definitely the "glue" for that film. I just watched it again, and it's the mix of "mysterious lady" and "sweet feisty grandma" that works so well for her.
I also thought it was quite a coincidence that she lived as long as her character did in the film.
She is also the oldest Oscar nominee ever, at 87.

Posted: 9/30/10 at 1:33pmShe easily could have won the Oscar that year...to me Kim Bassinger was just "there" in a cast of men for L.A. Confidential.

Posted: 9/30/10 at 1:49pmYeah, MTVMANN. I remember they both tied at the SAGs. And even though Basinger also won the GG, I thought Stuart had the edge 'cause she had the whole TITANIC phenomenon on her side.
