Glad I saw my friend's Facebook post before the clock struck Midnight. It is apparently National Dog Day today.
Time to see what all of our furry friends look like!
I tried uploading a picture of our new pup, Dante, but it didn't work. Here's a doppelgänger I found. Dante is a jack russell / chihuahua mix. Who else wants to play Proud Papa or Mama?!

Posted: 8/26/13 at 10:21pm<---- is Keenan, a 13 year old rescue saved from being put down, who just had surgery three weeks ago to remove a mass from his brain that was causing him seizures (it was not cancerous!). HE IS UP AND AROUND AND COMES TO WORK WITH ME EVERYDAY AND DOES HIS WILD pom dance for roast chicken at lunch. Yes, I am spoiling him rotten.

That's a beautiful story, SNAFU. I believe we have discussed this before but I admire you for all you do with adopting rescues.
Love Keenan! You two will keep each other young.

Liza, Keenan was abused for the first 12 and a half years of his life. When I rescued him a year ago this past July, anytime anyone would extend a hand to him he would flinch, expecting a slap. The little guy is only 4.5 LB! How ANYONE could do such a thing for so long is beyond my comprehension!
I have started rescuing seniors whose "families " surrender them for the mere fact they are getting old. These are wonderful dogs who cared for their families (EVEN if they were being abused) with unconditional love. There is something very spiritual about them. They are with me a short time, but the rewards I receive from them are priceless.
Wish I were rich, that I could open a sanctuary for these old guys.

My little Phoebe. Funny, we think she also is a Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. Well, we know she is half Chihuahua because her mother was one. Her father was a mutt. We also think she has some Pug in her.

Same, TD. Snafu - have you ever seriously considered writing some kind of book or starting a website about what you do?
Well hello Phoebe!
Love how two dogs can be the same mix but look so different, Marianne.

It is important that these loving seniors not be euthanized in shelters, They have the most to give and yet, merely because of their age they are the first to be put down.

My dog, Ace. The Ace Face.
If anyone wants to guess at what he is, your guess will be as good as mine. I think he's a tiny German Sheagle with probably another breed thrown in.

Wyn and Jord, you have adorable babies. Puppy play date in the future?
SNAFU, crossing my fingers for you. I hope they do feature Keenan.

Aww, love everyone's dogs.
This thread makes me sad for no more new photos of Miss Holly or Kringas though.

Marianne, I would venture that the father of your Phoebe had some Brussels Griffon in him. She reminds me a bit of Jim, Rondi Reed's dog on Mike & Molly, who is a Chihuahua/Brussels Griffon mix.
I'm also loving everyone's dogs here. Someday my life will be stable enough that I can have a dog again. In the meantime I'll live through all of my friends.

I lost my best friend of 13 years back in March. He was truly the best dog anyone could ask for. If I was ever having a bad day, he would come up to me and put his head in my lap. When I was sick, and I suffer from a chronic illness so I get sick a lot, he would never leave my side.
We got Jackson when I was in 2nd grade. When we went to pick out our puppy, he came running up to me and sat in my lap. It was like he chose me. The months leading up to his death, he had multiple small accidents in the house and was very tired. Spring break this year, I woke up on Saturday morning, and my parents both said it was time. He had a huge accident in the house, and he was in a ton of pain. I spent a couple hours with him, then my parents and I took him to the vet.
That week was already literally the worst week of my life for other personal reasons, but losing my baby was one of the hardest things ever. Giving him one last kiss before leaving his body was surreal. My mom and I were both sobbing and hugging after they put him to sleep. This was also the first time I had ever seen my father cry.
It was crazy to hold his head in my lap as he breathed his final breaths. It seemed like just yesterday I was holding him as puppy for the first time. He was a huge part of my childhood, and so many of my childhood memories have him in it. Jackson and my cat, Mickey (who is also pictured), were best buds. We still have Mickey, and he is definitely lonely and misses his brother as much as we do.

So many cuties - I wouldn't dare say which one is my favourite.
SNAFU - you are an inspiration. More power to you. It may have taken 12 and a half years but Keenan is finally a lucky boy and getting the love - and roast chicken - he deserves.
