You can have Colicchio, he's an arse (from someone who knows).

Is that same horrendous hostess participating in this latest installation?

So, who watched tonight?

I think Marcel is playing it up for the camera, and will get good in the later episodes.

Padma = SOOOO much better than Katie!

Ha, newgirl, I didn't know what that was until I clicked on the link. That's hilarious!

I think he's a mixture of Stephen, Elijah Wood, Wolverine, and the Heat Mizer.

It's gonna be a good season! Great to see Harold again, too re: Top Chef!

They got rid of one horrible hostess and replaced her with someone just as horrible. Where do they find these people? Can't stand Tom "I'm not your mentor, but a judge" Colicchio. I'm really not liking this show at all, but I'm glad Otto is out of there. Duh, you know the cameras are filming you, so why did you think you could get away with lying?

Dottie re: Top Chef!
I had that feeling about Cornholichio...I think he handled the "discovery" of the lychees very badly. What is up Ming Sai's butt?! You can be a judge and still be nice...watch Harold from last week.

And the new hostess is terrible...tho not quite as bad as Mrs. Billy Joel. My problem with this piece of wood is that she thinks she knows something...STFU and lets listen to the chefs. BTW? She was in "Glitter."

DoodleNYC, a very good friend of mine worked at the now defunct Mondrian when Tom Colicchio was its chef. I'll just say, what you see, is what you get...an arrogant SOB.

I didn't notice Ming Tsai being bad. I must have missed that.

I was thinking the same thing about the hostess (STFU beyotch). What was with that hoochie outfit she was wearing at that fundraiser?

"What was with that hoochie outfit she was wearing at that fundraiser?"

She got tips from Mariah during the filming of "Glitter."

I just always thought Ming Sai seemed like a nice guy, and he didnt give me that impression at all. His comments seemed passive agressive to me.

I dont really dig any of the contestants this cycle, either...except the older blonde. I DO love that Harold, LeeAnn and Dave all have blogs on the website...but no Tiffany! LeeAnn needs her own show.

Doodle, I love the blogs, too! And I agree that no contestant from this season is jumping out at me the way some did last year. Maybe it's still early, but something just doesn't feel the same.

I've always thought Colicchio was a smug d*ck, and now just ignore whatever snide comments he makes. I actually don't care too much for Gail, either - she just seems like she always HAS to look for something bad, like she's afraid to give only positive feedback.

And didn't Colicchio say that if Otto owned up to what he did, everything would be ok? He shouldn't have ousted himself, IMO. I hope Marisa is next to go.

Actually, Jax, I believe that Col. Colichio meant that if Otto didnt confess, they dont have enough evidence to kick him out for lycheegate...but he did (DUH, cameras all over doofus!) so he was knifed and gone. Jello-girl (I dont know anyone's names yet) wouldve gone if he stuck to his story.

For some reason, I dont mind Gail as much. Her critiques are at least reasonable. She often looks like she smells something bad, tho...not attractive.

Ha, I've noticed that facial expression on Gail, too. Her critiques are reasonable, I agree, I just feel like sometimes she has to stretch to find a flaw. Even Coldickio will give credit where it's due (i.e. Korea's pork - I think that was the most forthcoming I've ever seen him).

I see what you mean about Lycheegate, though. And I always wonder, can they ever request to see the tapes? Because you know there's footage of every single thing that goes on. Nothing should ever have to be disputed. But I guess a lot of that is the producers' doing.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't know how home viewers are supposed to have "favorites" based on skill. It is strictly a popularity contest since we, as viewers, cannot judge the product for ourselves. Maybe in presentation, maybe in creativity, but not on taste. "Project Runway"..we can judge the designs, "American Idol", we can judge the talent. But "Top Chef"? It's a weird concept.

That being said, I did watch last night, and I just think Marisa and anyone else who heard Otto say the lychees weren't paid for were as much to blame as him. If Marisa was so concerned about the honesty of it, why didn't SHE return them right then and there? And then at the judge's table, she made the biggest stink about Otto to divert the attention away from the poor response to her dessert.

Not that I like her, but I can see where she was coming from. She made an issue of him changing his story (which he did).

I mean he was clearly at fault, but wasn't the only one. That's where it becomes every man for himself. Marisa acted in her best interest and it works. I dislike her for it, but can't say I disagree - she clearly would have been the one to go.

In terms of not being able to judge on taste - I guess that's where we're supposed to trust the judges, although I know there have been numerous occasions where they described negative aspects of a dish's taste that actually sounded appealing to me. So I agree with you there, I've never thought about that.

Newgirl, I mention the distinction of the audience's opinion of the food and not truly being a judge on this or Hell's Kitchen to everyone who'll listen...and let's face it, I dont always like what I'm served in a restaurant and dont pretend to have a sophisticated palate. I guess my fashion sense is lacking as well, because I hated Jeffrey's collection for the most part.

All reality shows are basically popularity contests in the end.

Actually, Padma has written a cookbook, Easy Exotic. I saw it on the bargain book table at Borders. She's coming out with another one. Apparently, she got her start as an international model and was exposed to a lot of various cultures of food and got interested in cooking. I like her a lot better that Mrs. Joel. Padma is a bit severe but still less wooden and stiff.

Padma is way better than the Joel-bot. She's a little dry in the delivery, but she's kind of hot (and I'm a straight girl) and sometimes she adds the slightest touch of sarcasm to her comments and it makes me laugh.

Lycheegate - I actually kind of liked Otto, so didn't want to see him go, but I guess he did the right thing. Marisa (jello panna cotta girl) drives me up a wall. She needs to GO!

Ming Tsai is not a jerk. He's pretty nice actually - I have seen him at events.

Which makes me think it's time to have a visit to Blue Ginger - haven't been there in a while (it's really tasty!).

FW, I echo that I abhor Marisa. She is rotten and she always looks like she is smelling something foul. I love how she talks about how hot she is. Last week, to quote Carrie Bradshaw she looked "like something that got stuck in a drain." She makes the oddest facial expression.

I love Betty and Ilan. Both are divine.
