That's one of the reasons I actually love living in Queens. I can get a Zipcar for the afternoon and hit up Costco or Trader Joe's and avoid the crazy Manhattan crowds.

It's supposed to open in June. The Mgr. at the Union Sq store said that the UWS one is supposed to be absolutely HUGE! 2 floors! Yay!

Aldi owns Trader Joe's. They are essentially the same store. They both stock their own labels exclusively.

I love the Aldi Chicken Salad!

They may be owned by the same people, but you can't compare an Aldi with a TJs.

I'm curious - does the cost of renting the zipcar still allow you to save any money?

They put a Whole Foods on 97th and Columbus, and I've been there a couple of times. It's great--the tourists don't flock that far up and crowding isn't as much of a problem. But 72nd St/Broadway? That's gonna be another crowded situation. Fairway on 74th is a nightmare.

I live on the UWS and I heard about this about a year ago or more, but am glad that it's confirmed. It's sad that there won't be a wine store though due to some stupid state law.

I also heard that a Trader Joes is moving into the old Barnes and Noble store in Chelsea on 6th ave for those that live around there.

Boy do I hope that's true. B&N was huge! I've been going to the tiny 14th st. store, and besides being too crowded, they don't have the room to stock very many products.

For the Costco runs, absolutely, because of the buying in bulk aspect. Trader Joe's runs, not as much, but it does allow me to save some sanity, and plus, I really miss driving sometimes so it's a good couple of hours to have a car to drive around in.
