That's a sweet story, Patronus!
Excluding NYC, what is your favorite city and why?
Rank these singers in order of preference:
Britney Spears
Celine Dion
Luciano Pavarotti
Tony Bennett
What was your favorite subject in high school?
And Elphiw, apparently so. Although I still don't quite believe it.
*wears black scarf and sunglasses*
That was sweet, Pat! Thanks for sharing it with us!!!
ETA: I just got an email w/ a link to this crappy apartment from this realtor that I've been getting info from...it was funny though, because the e-mail said the following:
HA! HA! HA!
http://www.markdavidny.com/page.cfm?page=details&id=30832
Thanks for the kind words about the story. It's a bit cheesy and romantic - but it's all true.
Excluding NYC, what is your favorite city and why? La Jolla, CA. The weather is flawless, it's nearly 75 degrees year round. The beaches are gorgeous and the air is clean!
Rank these singers in order of preference:
Britney Spears
Celine Dion
Luciano Pavarotti
Tony Bennett
Wow, this is a challenge. Well, if I am ranking the singers in order of my personal preference I'd go:
Bennett, Dion, Pavarotti.
That might not be the order that I'd list them in terms of vocal ability, but that's the order I'd prefer to listen to them in.
As for Britney, I can't include her because you specifically said list the singers. Personally, I consider her a grunter. :)
What was your favorite subject in high school? The obvious drama and chrous aside, I'd have to go with English. I am a romantic at heart and can't for the life of me comprehend numbers on a page. Thank God my wife is a nerd. :)
haha. That's why you should probably avoid midtown and live in a surrounding neighborhood where you can pay about the same amount of money for a place that isn't a complete craphole.
You know it's bad when the folks hawking the apt put "HA! HA! HA!" in their email!!
Wow, studio apartments for $1400 have me rethinking my plan to be living in NY when I turn 30.

Oh, I thought that was you adding the HA HA HA! But yes, ha ha ha.
Next, Patronus ....
Who did you vote for in the last two presidential elections?
If you could be any European country, which would you be and why?
If you could be any European country, which would you be and why?
Wow, I think that's even more awkward than the typical, "if you could be a tree, what would you be and why?"
Who did you vote for in the last two presidential elections? Al Gore and John Kerry.
If you could be any European country, which would you be and why? I'd probably go with Switzerland. They are just so damned agreeable. :)

Just for that, Mabel, you cheeky young whippersnapper, I want you to answer it too!

Hmmm...I'd go w/ Luxemburg. Quiet and unassuming.
*shrug*
You?!?

Damn you, I'm the quizmistress! (Aren't I?)
Oh well, I guess Norway. *shrug*
Quizmistress. That has a nice ring to it.
Thank you Quizmistress, may I have another?

Sure!
If you could be any other man, who would you be?
Have you ever soiled your pants?
If you could be any other man, who would you be? Hmmm, that's a interesting one. Bono, Norbert Leo Butz both pop to mind but that might just because I am currently in threads about both.
President Clinton is interesting.
However, I am going to go with Alan Alda because I hear he gets all the hot BWW girls.
Have you ever soiled your pants? Not since I was old enough to know it was a problem.

Alan Alda - good choice! And yes, we are hot...but beware, there is one amongst us who is, shall we say, different. Naming no names, of course.
One more -
If you could write anything in the sky in smoke a la The Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz, what would it be?
Am I the only boy amongst the hot U2 chicas?
If you could write anything in the sky in smoke a la The Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz, what would it be?
Hmmm, I believe I'd have to quote Dennis Rodman and tell the entire world: "Explore Your Inner Freak!"

Good one!
I think Jezebel is also of the male variety, but I could be wrong. But everyone else is female (or lives as a female).
Just got back from the pharmacy. Surprisingly not awkward, because I didn't have to face my boss and because the co-worker who screwed me over was blustering about how "upset" she was that her big fat mouth got us to this point, and how she called the union rep on my behalf to see what could be done. Whatever. I'm still mad.
Mabel, I laughed harder over your realtor saying, "Ha! Ha! Ha!" than anything else! That apartment is horrific, but is it frightening that it totally didn't surprise me? I've always figured when people said they lived in overpriced SH*Tholes, that was the sort of apartment to expect!
Patronus, your story almost made me teary! (I say 'almost' because I'm a pretty cold person and I don't have tears. Instead, the water formations were created from the ice melting off my cold, black heart! So 10 points for you!)
If I aspired to be a European country, I would be France. Because there's beautiful people, beautiful atmosphere, sophistication and good food! But in reality, I would be Hungary, because that's what 8 days on Atkins does to you. (Get it, folks? It's a pun!)
Elliepie, we don't have to keep it a secret who you're referring to! (You know, I've read that sentence 3 times and I know something's wrong with it, but I can't determine what. It's late.) You're not not hot, dear. You're just what the doctors called "unfortunate looking". And after three more weeks of those hormones, you'll be thatmuch closer to being a real female!
(And Patronus, word to the wise, remember one of the three points I gave you on how to survive this thread, re: Ellie3.)
Well, I am glad I melt a tiny bit of your aeortic glacier, Tiff.
Before too long, I'll have you throwing necklaces into the ocean and shouting cute catch phrases from the mast of a boat!
I don't know why I'm replaying to this, as I really don't have anything substantial to contribute!
Yeah, that apartment e-mail was pretty ridiculous! I think I've given up on Manhattan. I'm fine living in Brooklyn as long as it's someplace right by a subway, etc. Williamsburg is looking very promising to me. There wasn't anything spectacular up there right now, but craigslist has had some decent places. We'll see. I wonder if I can finangle my way out of the dorms for the spring semester?
I think I've hit a brick wall, motivationally speaking. It's kind of sad.
Oh, and PU sucks! I have a desktop computer (even the thought of typing 60 pages worth of papers around finals time on a laptop makes my hands cramp up!) so I don't have any writing samples handy for that Theatre Talk internship. I randomly won this writing award for a paper last semester (seriously, I don't know why. I wrote it in an hour before class, and I never proofread it or anything), and I had to e-mail it through my PU mail acount to an English prof, so I figured that'd be ok to send. Well, Pace changed their mail setup, so now I can't view sent items. I know I did for something else not too long ago. It's like they're out to get me! I guess I'll type something up this afternoon or tonight. Ugh!
I can't wait to go home! I really, really can't! I can't wait to see my kitties! Oooohhh, they're so cute! And I've been told Maynard (the older one) has gotten so much lovier now that he's on kitty anti-depressants! Take that Tom Cruise!
Oh, and Tiff...good to know the pharmacy wasn't as hellish as it could have been yesterday. Maybe it'll end up working out afterall?? We're creeping up on 6 weeks until the concerts! I don't want to nag, but seriously! We went from 6 months to 6 weeks MIGHTY fast. Pretty soon it's going to be 6 days! I really want you to be able to come.
Oh. My. God!!!
Alanis is opening for The Rolling Stones at MSG!!! WOOO-FREAKING-HOOOOO!!!! Part of me is a little bummed that it couldn't be Beck or Wilco or someone great that I haven't seen before, but knowing that Los Lonley Boys and Maroon 5 are opening in other cities...YAY! Though, I read LLB are going to be performing w/ Dan Aykroyd (a la Blues Bros?!?!?) That could be interesting!
Anyway...now all we need is a good opener for U2!!
I wonder if she's going to be doing JLP acoustic or rocking out? You'd think the acoustic bit would be kind of a crap way to open for the Stones, right?!? Been there, done that...I want her to plug in and rock out!!! YEAH!!!
ETA: Tiff, did you see this about your man?!?!?
Christopher Meloni, the popular star of "Law and Order: SVU" may soon make his Broadway debut.
According to The New York Post's Liz Smith, Meloni may reprise his performance as Eddie in Arthur Miller's gritty A View From the Bridge in a commerical New York production; he played the role at the Gate Theatre in Ireland, and producers were impressed by his stage chops. As were critics--The Irish Times raved that he displayed "a tremendously forceful presence with all the confidence fame brings and none of the self-indulgence."
Meloni played Eddie Carbone, the Brooklyn longshoreman who is consumed and eventually destroyed by the secret lust he harbors for his niece Catherine. Originally produced as part of a Miller double bill in 1955 at the Coronet Theatre, the show, which starred Van Heflin and Eileen Heckart, was something of a critical failure at the time. Of course, it's much grown in esteem (partially thanks to Miller's '56 revision) and a 1997 revival directed by Michael Mayer starred Anthony LaPaglia, Allison Janney, Stephen Spinella and Brittany Murphy.
In addition to "SVU," in which he plays Detective Elliot Stabler, Meloni was a longtime cast member of HBO's prison drama "Oz." His other television credits include "Homicide: Life on the Street," "Brooklyn South" and "NYPD Blue." As a screen actor, he has appeared in Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle, Wet Hot American Summer, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Bound, Twelve Monkeys and Junior.

Personally, I find it rather hard to believe since it hasn't even been a decade since the last revival (which I missed, btw, so I'd have no problem being wrong about this!)
How was he, Jez?!?
He was absolutely incredible in it. Better than I expected even, and I'm a fan. The whole production was top-notch and if it goes to Broadway you should definitely try to catch it! It was directed by Mark Brokaw, who directed Reckless on Broadway last year. I wonder if he'll direct it again if it goes to Broadway...the article's not too clear - is it *this* production they're talking about or a totally new one just using the same actor? And what about his Law and Order schedule?
The rest of the cast were all superb too (all Irish), so if you happen to be in Dublin before the end of September, I recommend it! My avatar is a scene from the play, in case you hadn't realized. I might even catch it again myself before it closes!
Heading out to see Franz/Scissors/Maroon 5 now - should be amazing! I've been looking forward to it for ages. The tickets say 4pm, but we reckon we'll be OK turning up at about 8...I hope!

I just read an unofficial report that Keane will be opening for U2 in Boston and NYC. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm kind of excited about this! I know everyone thinks they're lame, and of course I'd rather see Franz or The Killers or Arcade Fire, but I'd rather have Keane than Kanye West...Unless the post on interference was a typo and they accidentally typed "Keane" instead of "Kanye." I'd actually be kind of bummed.
ETA: Apparently this is for sure now...only the dates in October though. No word yet on who's opening for MSG in November.
<------ a dork!
Jez, I'm glad to hear A View from the Bridge was so great. I hope they bring it back to Broadway w/ Chris (and Co, since you'd said they were all excellent). I saw Reckless in the fall and loved it, so another Brokaw show would be interesting!
ENJOY your concert tonight, and be sure to fill us all in! I'm kind of regretting not going for the FF show at MSG, but maybe something will turn up as it gets closer. They were supposed to do two concerts (10/16 and 10/17, but they cancelled the 16th).
HAVE FUN, JEZ! Be sure to tell us all about it!
When will they announce who's opening in November?!
