They're confirmed for October only. Boston 10/3-4, and MSG 10/7,8,10,11,14.
I send you a PM!
Oh good, I am hoping they don't do the November show. I don't really have a problem with them, but would honestly prefer Kanye West and I am not a fan of his really.
Bring on the Killers.
I just sent you a PM as well.

I think I'd die if The Killers or Franz Ferdinand opened for them, so really, it's just as well that they're not.
Whoever you get, just count yourself lucky that you missed out on KOL. *shudder* I know Elphie kind of liked them, and I honestly don't hate their CD, but I could not for the life of me understand anything they were saying.
I wish they had several people opening for them on the extended say in NYC. I guess they did that on the 3rd leg of Elevation. I had been irrationally telling myself that since FF were going to be playing MSG (well, The Theater at MSG) on Monday 10/17, they were a shoo-in for 10/14 at least! *sigh* Alas, they are not.
And I wish the damn Killers were playing in MANHATTAN at the end of September, rather than on Long Island. I love them, but I'm not carting my ass over to LI to see them. Surely they'll be back sometime in the spring or something w/ their new album. *fingers crossed* Then I can go w/ Elphie! It'd be no fun going w/o Elphie anyway!
My wife LOVES Kings of Leon. She was really hoping it'd be them.
She used to work for Virgin Entertainment Group and they performed at her office once and really enjoyed them.
I'm not so much a fan.
I'm assuming that since they performed at her office, Pat, it was for a very small crowd? I could probably see them being decent for a crowd of a few hundred...20,000...not so much. I said it elsewhere, and I'll say it again. While they were on in Boston, I spent the entire time (when I wasn't busy talking, er, screaming to my friend) watching them on the screens. I looked at the screens maybe twice, the whole time U2 was on. I realize it's not entirely fair, because KOL didn't have access to the light curtains, and the tracking lights (just the general stage "show" that U2 had) but then again, the lads only used the curtains for a handful of songs; it wasn't like they were down the whole time. U2 had enough energy and presence to reach the VERY LAST ROW, CLEAR ACROSS THE ARENA, where I was sitting. KOL certainly did not. I'm sure Keane wouldn't either, but whatever. I won't be clear across the arena anymore!
ETA:
Tiff did you find the MSG tix?? And you only lost your pair for Monday, not the pair your actually using, right? They aren't w/ the Vegas tix??
Not so much a fan of Keane myself. All their songs sound the same - heard one, you've heard them all! You guys would be really lucky if you got Kaiser Chiefs. They're probably my favorite band right now...have they made any impression in the US yet? You should check them out if you can. Their album Employment is amazing, very Franz Ferdinand-esque.
Speaking of whom...last night's concert was i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e! It rained a bit, but nobody minded. It started a bit earlier than I thought it would, so we actually missed the start of Maroon 5 but I didn't really care - I wasn't there to see *them*! Franz Ferdinand were on next, and they raised the roof.
(Well, actually there was no roof but you know what I mean!)
They did all the hits of course, but some samples of their new stuff which sounds excellent. Can't wait for the new album!
Scissor Sisters finished up in great style. So camp, but great fun, with big glittery disco-balls and velvet curtains with giant SS logos. And their dance routines were hilarious!
Really chatty as well, which I always like. Not quite as good as the U2 show at Croke Park, but still, I had a fabulous time! It's a really nice stadium as well, and we had great seats.

I'm so glad to hear your concert was i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e!!!! And I'm glad to hear the new FF tunes sound good. I can't wait for the new album release...I know of Kaiser Chiefs, but I must say I'm not all that familiar w/ their music. I tend to be pretty behind the times w/ up and coming bands, and then I get pissed off at myself for looking back and seeing that they'd played at little clubs in the city that I've missed out on.
Oh, if you ever see Kaiser Chiefs playing at some small club - go!! They're amazing.Would you know any of their songs if you heard them? 'Everyday I Love You Less and Less', 'I Predict A Riot'?
The titles don't ring any bells, but really, that doesn't mean anything! I'll have to pop on amazon or check back on their website to see if they've got audio clips. I just looked on their website and Cleveland looked like the closest they'd be to me in NY, and they looked pretty booked up for the rest of the year. Maybe there'll be something in the spring?? And by then I'll be a little more savvy on their tunes!
Anyone else you'd recommend, Jez??
Well...
Doves, Muse, Interpol, Goldfrapp, Kasabian - these names probably don't mean a thing to you!
Updated On: 8/25/05 at 05:08 PM
No, I've heard of Doves, Muse, and Interpol, though again, I'm guilty of not taking the time to actually go and seriously check them out despite having heard good things about them. Interpol and Doves are playing w/ The Killers (and a couple of others) at a fest on Staten Island. I take it I'm a great big fool for having opted agains tix. I put in my credit card info and everything, but I deleted it at the last minute, because I didn't want to go by myself, and it was going to be $65 w/ fees and everything and I couldn't get anyone to go w/ me.
ETA: Nevermind, they weren't all together on one bill.
Day One: The Killers, New York Dolls, Interpol, British Sea Power, Tegan and Sara, The Ordinary Boys, Lake Trout
Day Two: Oasis, Jet, Doves, The Lemonheads, Kasabian, Jesse Malin, The Redwalls
Sounds great, Jez, I'm glad you had fun!
I didn't like KoL, but I was with someone who did, so I think that made it tolerable for me; watching someone else get really into their set was fun (and he tried to get me into it as well, which was funny).
I'm not sure whether I'd rather hear Kanye West or Keane. I'd definitely pick Super Furry Animals over either of them, so I hope they're still an option for November.
ARG!
"ARCADE FIRE have been invited to play with their heroes U2 for two winter dates in their hometown, MONTREAL.
The Canadian seven-piece, whose album track 'Wake Up' has consistently appeared on the opening music for the Dublin four-piece's 'Vertigo' tour, look set to perform with the Irish megastars for their sold out shows at Montreal Bell Centre on November 26 and 28.
Speaking about the invite, lead singer Win Butler said: "We have been asked to do some dates with them in Montreal so we are definitely gonna try and at least do one. I saw them play when I was 16 and I didn't know any better at the time. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen.”..."
(source: http://www.interference.com/u2137744/index.html)
Why can't they open in MSG?!
Yeah, I saw that too...I thought it was a done deal for both Montreal dates and a few of the Toronto dates, but it sounds like it's more up in the air than that...I'd love to see them, but I guess I'll have to settle for hearing them in Central Park from the outside of Summerstage. Better'n nothin!
I've never heard anything by Super Furry Animals, and I'd prefer them to Keane. Keane is a fine band, but not the group I want to be in charge of getting me pumped up for U2.
Kanye West is interesting. I am not a huge hip hop fan by any stretch, but I tend to like his songs and he seems like a pretty decent guy in comparison to some of the other Rap artists out there. Very well spoken and articulate. That at least makes me interested.
Yay! I got my U2 Arizona CD today! Mab, have you watched yer ZooTV yet? (Is this the one you're sending me?) (I didn't even notice you requested it until I just re-read that thread! Premium Member, missy? *cough*Addiction*cough*)
I'm still wanting a DVD of U2 with No Doubt opening for them, dammit!
Is Mabel on her life-getting vaca back home now?
Jez, sounds like a great concert! Were the Scissor Sisters any good live? Of course I own their CD and love it, but they were sort of eh on SNL this year.
Hey, ladies, how about we trade in our respective New York tickets and go see the boys at the same time in Montreal? Huh? Huh? Wouldn't that be fun??
Oh, I've cracked out my New York budget, and it's at about CAD$1000 including everything (air, shows, food, MoMA & Guggenheim) except for spending money. That's actually not bad from a general standpoint, but it's still more money than is in my bank account! Ugh...I need a smoke. I'm back into the 3-digits.
The Scissor Sisters were fantastic live - not disappointing in the slightest. Jake is a GREAT frontman, and they really put on a show. The songs sound great live too - if you ever get the chance to see them , make sure you grab it!
I had the opportunity to see Scissor Sisters live in a cabaret-style show in January, but the tickets sold out right away (only 1000 available in a city of 2 million! ) and scalpers were selling for 10x the face value! (Literally - the face price per ticket - general admission - was $28, and pairs were going for $500!)
Well I don't know if they are worth quite THAT much.
I'm sure they'll be around in your city again. I imagine they'll have a long career, so don't let the opportunity pass you by again!
And good luck in raising the funds for your U2 trip in October. Is everybody on this thread going, but me?
And I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that you get Kaiser Chiefs as support - I know they were supporting in parts of Europe, so you never know. FAR better than the ultra-dreary Keane, trust me. You've all heard of them? I'm on a mission here!

Don't kill me! I haven't heard, or heard of, the Kaiser Chefs! (But really, anyone who has named their band after those who create bread-fully goodness CAN'T be bad!) Wanna send me links to your favorite songs?
Well it's Kaiser 'Chiefs', but no matter - let that have no bearing on your judgement!
You can watch the 'Oh My God' video here...(if this attempted link actually works). It's probably my second favourite song on the album.
Edit: Well I certainly made a mess of that link.
Edit2: I've fixed it! Turns out you have to put the http thingy too. Now go listen/watch - and make sure you have the speakers turned up to the max! That goes for you too Mabel, Ellie, #1Elphie and Patronus!
Check it out!

I think I need a lesson in reading comprehension. Kaiser Chiefs? *eyes glaze over like the coating of a Krisy Kreme donut* I've got a one-track mind here.
Will check out that link now.
Hmm! Catchy song! The video was sort of hokey, but I dig this music! It's very Weezer/Beck, funky alt rock. J'aime! I would MUCH rather see Kaiser Chiefs over Keane! They would be a more fitting warmer-upper for U2 than Ke--zzzzzz....
Hmm..you don't sound wholly convinced! But trust me, the more you listen the more you like. And anything has to be better than Keane, right? I honestly don't know how they've become so popular. Are they actually successful in the States or is it a barely-heard-of-em situation? Over here, you can't escape them. I keep telling myself it's just a fad...
I'm not wholly convinced because I've only heard one some from Kaiser Chiefs, but I did like what I heard! My preference is alt rock, so this is right up my alley! (And Weezer and old-Beck were some of my faves!)
Keane is medium-popular in the States. They were on SNL this year, and SNL had a pretty great musical line-up (Scissor Sisters, Mighty Mouse, U2!!!!!...oh, and the Ashlee Simpson fiasco, but anyway...). I think Coldplay was also on this year, but maybe I'm actually thinking of Keane. (Oh, I gest. Chris Martin is MUCH better looking than Keane's lead.) I actually can't get any of Keane's tunes in my head because all their songs sound alike. There's a song that keeps being played on the radio - I only remember the chorus, which is something like, "So tell me when...you're gonna let me in...I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to beg-i-in..." Is that Keane or Coldplay?
