I work for a Tenant Screening Company and I do a bit of everything there. Customer Service, T&D, Adminstrative Assistant.
It's important to me to have a job and not a career right now. I like to leave at the end of the day and not really have to think about work again until the next day.
Work to live and not live to work, right? It's a good attitude!
Exactly. My wife is more career oriented and is the primary bread winner and we are both cool with it.
In fact, in a few years when we either have a kid or adopt, the plan is for me to be the stay at home daddy.
Gotta run to class, but had to add...Awww, Pat, the stay at home daddy! Seriously, *thumbs up*!
"Every thing about it is thoroughly modern...."
Thanks. It's what I want to do. While I am not coservative by any means, I do believe in certain traditional family values. One of which is a parent staying home to raise the kid as opposed to some overpriced day care. There is no reason that has to be the mother and working with kids is one thing that I am very passionate about.
(don't go there, Tiff. Save the Michael Jackson jokes for another thread. ha.)
*opens mouth* *closes it*
Aww, way to ruin my fun. Seriously, though, I agree - a kid shouldn't be raised by a nanny or a daycare!
Just a quick update...heard back from 2 of the 3 Inside the Actors Studio groups and have interviews on Wed...still no word from the Backstage Internship, which is kind of a bummer, but we shall see what happens tomorrow. I think I'm going to have nightmares of them saying you've got the job, and the first taping is on 10/10 (they shoot on Sunday and Monday nights) and if you can't make it, bye-bye!
Oh my GOD, don't say that! *knocks on wood* Well, good luck on Wednesday - so that's for the office and front house internships?
PS. So we're thinking Bolzano's Restaurant (http://www.bolzanosrestaurant.com) for dinner on 10/9. The stuff is fairly inexpensive and it's supposed to be good! Say, 9:30?
Sounds fine for dinner...I saw Ellie's post about The Pillowman folks and my fawning after Billy, but I did have to add that I guess during the Pillowman's run, someone was eating out on the deck area and called Goldblum over to ask if he'd say Happy Birthday to his wife, and Goldblum just went over and joined them for a drink!
Also, I'm thoroughly confused, because I just got a call from a woman saying she's taken over for my old boss at the theatre (I got an email saying she'd left this summer, so I knew that there'd be someone else there), and that she was responding to my application for the House Management internhip...Ummm...I'm pretty sure the guy that called earlier this afternoon said that's what he was calling for?!?!? WTF?!?
Here's the breakdown:
1.) House Management...basically an usher, seating the folks who show up for the tapings (and I'd imagine we can watch as well)
2.) Office...working directly w/ producer/director/internal staff..."exposed to all aspects of TV production, tapings and edits at HBO Studios, office management"
3.) Backstage...basically a gopher...assist floor manager, keep down the fort backstage for Jimmy and the guests, network w/ industry VIPs and execs...coffee-runs, etc.
I'm gunning for 2 or 3. I really don't need to be an usher at this stage of the game. I'd gladly take it, if that's the only option, but I'd like something that's a little more substantial...something that might lead to something else after I graduate.
Oh for sure, without a doubt, House Management isn't awful, but it seems pretty rudimentary considering your qualifications! What's up with that new woman giving you a call, though? Did you tell her someone had already phoned? How come both of them would have your application? Wasn't your summer theatre job entirely separate from the ITAS internship? It seems like the Office internship is the best one in the long run - I don't know how much quality networking you can have with the guy in the green room asking you to get him a chai latte, and at least in the office, you're given more responsibilities and opportunities to shine, without the frantic pace backstage.
I don't know if the backstage one would also incorporate bookings, etc?!? That's the only way I could see any networking w/ big-wigs there...I don't think it really registered until I hung up, you know...Huh? That didn't make sense!
Anyway, off to do some homework. I buckled and bought some Hagen-Dazs because it was on sale, and I simply could not resist! I didn't even get the frozen yogurt. So bad!
No, I think office would incorporate bookings. Backstage is probably like a mini-stage manager.
Have fun with your homework!
(Oh, and don't panic but we're thinking Nobu over Bolzano's. A bit --er, quite a bit-- more expensive, but at least you're saving money by not doing lunch with us, right?)
Popping in between chapters...
Well, just to add another log on the fire...I've gotta chime in w/ Ellie on the "not such a big fan of sushi" front. Sorry.
Oh, and I forgot to say to Pat (about the DVD stuff)...I am kicking myself for not springing for the delivery confirmation. I guess I just took it for granted that I'd sent out a couple dozen packages over the last year (to multiple countries) and all of my packages arrived w/o incident. There was only one package that I didn't receive from Australia, but I'm pretty sure that's just because PU is too incompetent to have forwarded my mail over the summer.
*lower lip tremble* W-W-W-Well, do you like the cooked stuff? Teriyaki? Tempura?
My eBay auction ends tomorrow, and I've got zero bids on these tickets! WTF! (Well, technically I have one bid, but it's a pity bid from ebonic_singer to get the ball rolling and he's not buying them if he wins. )
Some kinds of sushii can be cooked as well.
It's sashimi that is actually raw.
Man, I thought you knew all the ins and outs of eating it raw.
Updated On: 9/26/05 at 06:56 PM
That's true. Shrimp sushi is usually cooked. And rolls can be either raw or cooked too!
*cries*
Have you tried the Nobu in LA, Pat?
I've only had sushi once or twice, and I honestly don't even know what I had. I'm sure I can finangle something that'd be fine w/ me if the general consensus is in favor of Nobu. Not a problem. Just figured I'd toss it out there.
Oooh, snap Patty! I didn't notice your edit until now! Do you see what a whipper-snapper he's become, Mabs?
(PS- JFTR, it's Ellie who noshes it raw - I just provide the dessert. )
And Mabel, I don't want you to have a bad time there! Check out the menu (www.myriadrestaurantgroup.com , and go for "Next Door Nobu"), and if there's something you can see yourself enjoying then we'll go for it, otherwise we'll find somewhere else, okay?
No worries, Tiff.
Sorry to hear your auction isn't drumming up the response we would have expected. Maybe try craigslist w/ a fixed price a bit above face. I know that kind of sucks not having the reliablilty of someone w/ an eBay account, but stuff still seems to be pretty pricey over there. Might be worth checking out.
Hey Nic! You know what we're gonna be doing two weeks from today at this very moment? Hording loads of U2 merch and getting ready for K***e from our sweet 200-level seats!!
*tear* AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! I can't wait...The sad part is, one week from now, we'll already have seen one of our shows, be on the verge of the second, and well on our way of plowing through this fun-filled week that we've been waiting for for MONTHS! It's going to go by fast!
But enough of that...EEEEEEE!!!!!
Can you believe it's coming up so fast? I didn't realize how quickly that whole week would fill up!
Okay, so I'm looking at the NY Airport Service shuttle http://www.nyairportservice.com/fares.html and I'm thinking I'll take one from JFK to Marriott Marquis, and then haul my ass and luggage to the Shubert.
Isn't it only like a block from the Marriott to The Shubert? How much luggage are you bringing?!? Don't worry. I won't freak out too much. I come from a long line of over-packers.
Hey, it's only like a block, but the Airporter will only deliver to midtown hotels, no where else, so I'll be trudging my ass a bit. (Not that bad - last time I was dropped off by cab at the Nederlander at 7:30 on a Friday night, and then had to walk to 46th and 5th to the Super 8...not like it's a fair walk, but with the way I pack, and crossing Times Square...it got ugly.)
PS. To get into the holiday spirit...
