Reason 598 WHY you NEED to come to Vancouver NOW, Nic goddammit!! And I saw this whole array of corduroy jackets and thought of you. CAD$20! That's US$16! And you get the sales tax refunded to you when you leave!
Okay, really going for dinner now, then W&G and Apprentice/CSI/Without a Trace. BBL.
Ok...have a nice dinner.
Oooooh, $16 corduroy jackets!!! I have a tiny little thing for cord jackets, btw for Pat and Elphie. I've got...more than I should have.
Oh, and isn't groupie supposed to be going to see U2 this weekend!?! Where the hell is she? I think I'll have to see if I can dig up her e-mail and drop her a line. I haven't talked to her in months!
I do understand your infatuation with cord jackets, even though I've only got that one cream jacket (that is now more than slightly dirty after leaving it at that stupid Cafe Europa in Times Square for most of the evening! grr). They're just so snazzy, trendy and fasionable!
You just reminded me that I ought to send your care pack out today (11/4) - would've done it sooner but the last few days have been a bit......hectic.
Where the hell has groupie been?? I'll never understand how people manage to come onto this site, sign up for an account, post on the OT board, and never come back again. Doesn't BWW just incite the addictive personality lurking in EVERYBODY??
Anyway, I've learned my lesson and now I'm planning ahead - WAY ahead - for my other university apps. I can't afford to screw this up! (And really, if I get rejected from them all, I do think it's time to look for a new career choice, no?)
Tiff, let me know when you do get the package out and when I should expect to get it. I was supposed to have something here on Monday, and it still isn't here, so I want to know when I can start bitching at people in the mail room...not that that would accomplish anything anyway. I've already tried w/ this package, and they're just like "Hmm, dunno?...Anyway, Jill, I think I'll get takeout from Rosella's..." Ugh! Not a help, AT ALL!
I don't know where groupie's been. I wonder if she ended up taking that gig touring? I'll try to shoot her an email today and see what's up.
And I'm glad to hear that you've learned your lesson. At least if you know you've put your best effort in, whatever the results are, you can't sit there second guessing yourself. If it's not to be, it's not to be, and you'd have to deal with that accordingly. At least you're giving yourself a shot now!
ETA:
Because I don't feel like bumping for this...So, apparetnly, I've really mismanaged my college career! Admittedly, I didn't really consult help from advisors all that often, and it's not like this is a big disaster or anything, but I'm going to end up w/ a BA in English w/ a concentration in Lit and Culture, and potentially FOUR minors. *shakes head* So, I've got my useless NYC Studies minor (that I picked up by taking core courses in the NYC Studies area), Sociology/Antropology and Communications minors from my breif stints where I considered majoring in Soc/Com, and now, I may theoretically be able to finangle a Film Studies minor (and I probably could have done a Women's Studies minor instead, but I don't have that much interest in it). The FS minor is only 15 credits, consisting of: Art of Film (that I'm taking now) a Seminar in Film (last year, my Hitchcock class), any Lit class post-1700 (check), and then you've got to take History of Film that they have next semester, and you're supposed to take Lit and Film, but it's not being offered. I'm wondering if I could swap out my Sociology through film course for it? If I could, then I'd be good to go. *headdesk* Who graduates w/ four minors?!?! Anyone w/ any sense and time enough to come up w/ 4 minors would have double majored. But what would I have double majored in? Communications, I guess, but they have a ton of major courses, which is why I ended up switching to English in the first place. I'm also INCREDIBLY pissed off that they're incorporating the Film Studies major next year (which is going to be designed in such a way that it will be reletively painless for double majors w/ English or Communications, since lots of classes would overlap). AND it's going to be an heavily interdisciplinary program w/ a big mix of Film, Lit, English, Sociology, Com, History, Women's Studies courses. JUST WHAT I WOULD HAVE WANTED! Boooo!!! What piss-poor timing!
Boo, you should've bumped it so I'd have known you were online and we could've conversed instead of letting this drop to page 2, eejit!
*sigh* Sorry. I hate bumping when I had the last post.
How's it going today?...I think I just might have the room to myself all weekend. Crazy packed a bag last night and came in at 6am, and this morning the duffle was gone. If is going away for the weekend, a note might have been nice.
I got my post-Halloween care package today (that was supposed to get here Monday) and I'm having some issues rationing my bag o'candy. Mmmmm!! *dives for a Twix*
Again, I still totally don't know how you managed to get FOUR MINORS and a MAJOR! What the hell? At my school (and I think this generalizes most/all schools in Canada), you can get a major by taking all the required Criminology courses and requisite courses related to that (i.e. sociology, philosophy, political science, etc.) and you have a set number of credits available for electives that are totally unrelated to your major, and pretty much, if you want to graduate in 4 years, you only have just enough extra credits to get one minor. (Sorry for the worst grammatical sentence known to man.) How many credits make up a minor, woman?? I think for us, it's something like 18-22.
Aaaanyway, so do you want to take more courses then, or are there any overlapping courses you've already taken that you can apply to your film minor and any other ones?
ETA: I apologize for the migraine the above jumbo of words may have caused you. My brow is furrowed trying to decipher what I just wrote.
I'm trying to pace myself by only finishing one bag before opening another. So far I've trying to finish my Reese/Sidekick/Kit Kat bag, but I'm getting sick of them. It's almost becoming a chore to eat them now. After that, I'll go after my Twix bag, then the Crispie Crunch/Crunchie/Wunderbar bag, and if I'm not in a diabetic coma, I'll open the sour assorment bag and the M&M Peanuts bag. (M&M Regulars will be finished tonight.)
Is that disgusting?
All of my minors are 15 credits...no wait, I think COM may have been 18, yeah. PU is really big on letting you double dip and let things count towards more than one thing, so if you plan accordingly, it isn't so difficult. Like for film, I had to take 2 film classes for my English major (Art of Film and Seminar: Hitchcock), and then a lit course (geez, got a few of them), so that would leave only 2 classes to take out of my electives to get the minor (only one more if they'd let me swap Sociology through film that I took). I don't know if they'll let me though. We'll see.
Then, the I took a 6 credit class called Urban Social Photography. All 6 credits went towards my NYC studies minor, and I also got to count 3 towards the 15 for my SOC/ANT minor. It's just a bunch of stuff like that. Probably 2/3 of my classes are being used to "double dip" for multiple things: Core and a minor, a major course and a minor course, etc. And all of my 26 credits worth of open electives went towards minors.
*shrug*
Good lord! That's a lot of candy, Tiff! I've got a medium sized ziplock bag w/ Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Almond Joy, Twix, Kit Kat, 3 Musketeers, and Milky Way...I think that's it. And it's not even all that full. I don't expect it to be around all that long, certainly not after I went through one of each this afternoon. I'm going to try to limit myself to 2/day. Though the fact that the 3 Musketeers and Milky Way are those little bite sized ones (not event the "fun size") I'm not sure how that'll fly.
ETA: I don't know if I'd call it TRAUMA. I just think it'd look significantly more impressive if I had planned better and gotten a double major, rather than this ridiculous barrage of minors (that apparently don't even show up on our diploma...probably a big reason that they're so incredibly easy to get!)
That's a good deal. I used my sociology courses to fulfill my Crim requisites and get my minor as well.
[crickets chirping]
So whatcha gonna do now? None of this will delay your graduation, will it?
I'll be sure to enclose some of these chocolates in your care pack. I really don't think I can finish it all, and wasting them seems to be a cardinal sin. ("Thou shalt not waste good milk chocolate.") Take your pick out of the ones I listed - what's your preference?
The sad thing is, when I say that I'm going through bags of this crap, we're talking 26-50 piece bags here. I feel like a glutton.
(But it's so good!)
ETA: I went out of order, and now Twix is almost gone. But pick anything else!
ETA2: Fine, Miss Unpaced At Pace (not quite Patronus McPatronize, but hey.), you're not traumatized. Just...er...irked?
No. All I need for my major is one more Lit class that I'm taking next semester. If the film thing doesn't work out, I'll already have 3 minors. And since the fact that I got approved for the minor today w/ the classes I had (I knew I had more than the 15 credits, but I was supposed to take one class from a specific list that I didn't, but they waived that). So, I'm going to look into the film thing on Monday. If they'll let me swap the SOC class, I'll take the History of Film, and if they won't, and I can't do the minor...Well, I may still take that class, but there's another class on the history of music that I might take instead. I don't know. I've got a week or so to decide before registration starts.
Oh, and I've yet to hear back from any of the internship people. Even the indy place that got back to me wanting to know when I could interview hasn't gotten back since I replyed. ARG!
Can you call the indie people? What about Conan? Even though he may be a scary bastard, I bet he's nicer than David Letterman. (Plus, you don't wanna go back to the Ed Sullivan Theatre any time soon, do you? )
Are you required to do an internship, or are you just looking to do one so you can network once you graduate? If that's the case, why not apply for a part-time job somewhere instead of just limiting yourself to unpaid positions?
Ooooh...more candy! Seriously anything is fine w/ me. I've never had a Wunderbar (is this a strictly Canadian candy?).
I will happily enjoy taking any of the candy you've got off your hands! They're all up my alley.
No, we aren't required to have an internship. I suppose my next round will involve weeding through part time jobs as well, but up until now I had just been looking for internships.
I don't have a phone number for either Conan or the indy company, so alas, I can't call to check in. The wait is KILLING ME!
Really, no Wunderbars in the States? It comes in a Cadbury assortment bag with Crispie Crunch and Crunchie. (You guys get those, right?)
I'll be sending more Reese's and Sidekicks (Nestle, I think) your way - I've really exhausted them - I bought them bulk and I'm really over them now.
One M&M Regular packet down...3 more to go. Then...onto...the...Cadbury bag...
Nope, none of the above on the Cadbury front here.
I will gladly enjoy anything and everything!
Hey, check out the video clip in the Jake Gyllenhaal thread. He chats for a bit about the U2 concert and his love of showtunes (about the clip of Send in the Clowns...though he was saying it was in Miracle Drug. *shakes head* Jakey, twas Electric Co!)
ETA: I just googled Wunderbar..."A peanut butter and caramel experience"!!! W-O-W! Be sure to drop at least one in there. I've got to see what this is all about!
Ooh, I shall pop over to the Jake thread then. Was he at one of our shows? He's NY-based, right? And between the gloriously random assortment of people Bono was namedropping those nights (Beyonce? Michael Stipe? Minnie Driver? Wha?), I don't remember if he gave a shout-out to Jake.
BTW, how can you mistake Miracle Drug and Electric Co? Jeebus. Miracle Drug and some other coma-inducing ballad, perhaps, but Electric Co? No, Jakey. Just...no.
How is it possible that we have a different assortment of chocolate bars than you guys do! M&Ms are definitely American (visited the site in Vegas! [beams with dubious pride])...er...sour peaches? Sour kids? None of those??
Yeah, we have Sour Patch Kids (I haven't had those in ages! I've been more about chocolate when getting candy lately, I guess...no SPK, Skittles, Starburst, even though I do enjoy them all)...It sounds like it's just the Cadbury assortment that we don't have. Though we do have Cadbury bars and other Cadbury stuff at Easter. I'm sure if you looked around you could find a Wunderbar (maybe?), but they aren't at the register at CVS or anything.
ETA: Yeah, I think both Gyllenhaals are NY based. Speaking of Maggie, how much do I love her and Peter Sarsgaard as a couple?! *thumbs up*...I don't remember which show he was at, though I do remember hearing that he was at one. Maybe it wasn't one of ours, because I don't remember SITC being in Electric Co. at any of our shows. Dunno?
Coffee Crisp? Sidekick? Kit Kat?

Tiff, now you're speaking my language. KIT KAT! Max 5 is my new favourite bar in the whole world, though.
Out of those 3, Tiff, we've only got Kit Kat (well, that's all I've seen).
And Jakey was either at 10/7 or he didn't get name-dropped, because I just listened to the pre-One banter on 10/11 and 10/14 and he wasn't mentioned (and they didn't play Electric Co. on 10/8, so he wouldn't have gotten his showtune fix then).
I'm LOVING Max 5 too! At first I was sort of "Ehh...chocolate and peanut with pretzel??" but I'm sort of in love now. Expensive though! (Relatively speaking.)
Okay, after watching that clip, I'm a Jake fan for life. How CUTE is he??? I couldn't understand the appeal before ('Slightly better looking Tobey Maguire...' I used to say) but he's just such a self-deprecating charmer! Aww. I can forgive him for the song mix up (but seriously, HOW would Send In The Clowns fit into Miracle Drug? Really.). Using 'Bono' and 'showtunes' in the same sentence...love him now.

I think they should put pretzels in EVERY chocolate bar.
