Eh, he was talking about Miracle Drug. No spoiler there. They're gonna play it at every single show, w/o fail.
I'm guessing he was probably just talking about musicals in general. I'm going out on limb here, but I have my doubts that Edge is particularly well-versed in the glory that is: The Musical. Though, I suppose if the conversation was something like "w/ Abba, Lennon, Joel, The Beach Boys, etc, lending their hits to musicals, is that something U2 would consider doing"...though I doubt it. I have a feeling Bono must enjoy musicals (to a certain extent) w/ Send in the Clowns, America (during Bullet the Blue Sky on PopMart), and it seems like there was at least one other showtune, being snippetd at some point.
Wow, the "Vertigo 2005/U2 Live From Chicago" dvd is being released November 15th. I didn't realize it was so soon!
And Edge doesn't know what he's missing!
It definitely was that bad. They gave me a trick question regarding current events, I fell for it, and then further put my foot in my mouth by saying I read the newspaper daily (which they asked - I wouldn't have offered that).
Yeah, that came out of nowhere! Next week!!! Eeeee!!!
So, then it'll be less than a week from the release, that you'll (hopefully we'll) be at our MSG show!!! So, since it's right around the corner again:
#1Elphie:
Two unrealistic songs you want to hear:
Two that are in the realm of possibility:
GO!
Aw, I'm sorry, Tiff! A trick question!? What did they ask you?
They asked me what I felt about the Telus strike (Telus is the provincial phone company) - well, the problem is they asked me what two main current events the province should be interested in, and I mentioned the Telus strike - and I told them I was glad they were about to reach a resolution, depending on how the workers voted to accept the new proposal. They asked me if I knew the factors that were in dispute, and I had no idea. (Pay? I dunno!)
Then they asked me if I supported the workers or the government on it and I said the government.
Then they asked me if I read the newspaper and how often, and I said almost daily if possible.
Once I got off the phone, I realized Telus is a private company, and the government wasn't even a factor with the strike.
Ooh, tough question, Mabs! I don't really even have any idea what's in the realm of possibility, so I'll just name the 4 songs that I would most like to hear (in no particular order). I know at least a few of them are possiblities.
Numb
Angel of Harlem
With or Without You
Bad
I really love Numb. It was the one song I said was out of possibility but that I'd like to hear too.
Ooooh, harsh, Tiff! Did the rest of it go okay? Or is this just a glaring faux pas that's tainting an otherwise decent interview?
I'm not going to comment on any of your selections, Elphie. I was just curious.
Ooh, tricky. You're sure the government wasn't involved in some way? They would really ask you whether you were on the side of the workers or the government even though the government didn't play any role? That seems wrong!
And yeah, I would FLIP if they played Numb. I love that song.
No, the rest was still a nightmare. They asked me weird questions like, "What do you know about the BC Caucus?" and I'm like, "Er...what do you mean what do I know?" and then I rambled something about the majority and minority caucus, but now I realize that's for American politics - I dunno about Canadian politics.
And they asked me to name 3 Cabinet members and I listed them off my sheet, and they were like, "Did you know that off the top of your head, or..." and I'm all, "Er, yeah, because those were the ministries I most wanted to intern for." But as if anyone would list "Colin Hansen, Minister of Asia-Pacific Initiative and Economic Development, Olga Ilich, Tourism Sportrs and Arts Minister and Shirley Bond, Education Minister." verbatim off the top of their heads.
And when they were asking my perspective on things and ethical questions, I totally stumbled. I actually had to stop, apologize and be like, "I've got these ideas, I'm just trying to find the right words for them." It was mortifying. Worst interview I've ever had.
Ouch, sorry Tiff. Well, it was a learning experience, right?
Yeah. I should read the newspaper more carefully.
Sucks though - this was the only shot at a real internship I had, and in fact, the position is full-time as a legislative assistant, so it's an entry-level career job in the government that people would kill for. If I got this, I might not even have had to go to law school next year.
So...this sucks. They said they're interviewing 7-8 other candidates and this is all for one position. So...I'm screwed.
Well, if the other candidates got trick questions like you did, you never know...
Anyway, I'm off for awhile. I'm sorry you weren't happy with the interview, Tiff; take comfort in the fact that I'm probably even worse at them than you are. I probably would have started crying over the phone.
Awww, Tiff. I'm sorry. Though, I suppose 7-8 other people isn't that many in the grand scheme of things. Interviews are so awkward. I've had one, I think, that I actually felt confident about when I left. I always feel like a total ass, and I'd say 6-7 of those other 7-8 are going to feel the exact same way! If the government wasn't involved in that case whatsoever, that's really lame of them to try to trip you up like that. And your 3 Cabinet members thing was kind of funny as well. Sorry. Who wouldn't have notes for themselves for a phone interview though???
Changing the subject entirely...Have you guys seen the video for Numb? W/ Edge all tied up and the feet "massaging" his face?!? I think that was Numb?
Yeah, I would not have had a clue! I'm so woefully behind on what's going on that I should really be ashamed of myself!
Maybe one of the law schools will come through, and if not...there's always New York! I'll be looking for a place and a roommate! I know that doesn't really help. Sorry...Got any of that candy left?!
The worst part is I tried to make it seem like I knew what I was talking about, so now they probably think I'm full of SH*T. In fact, I swear I could hear them snickering over one of my bon mots. I dunno if you watch The Apprentice, but I would've put Markus to shame.
Okay, let's change the subject. Law school! Fun! Relaxation! Hurrah!
I'm seriously contemplating this New York moving thing, you know. It seems like it'll be my last viable option. If I've gotta move out next fall anyway, why not move to my favorite place?
I actually don't watch The Apprentice, but I still went "aaaawwwww" after "I would've put Markus to shame." I get the point.
Well, it certainly would be fun to have you in NY! Though, I have a feeling finding an apartment and a job that'll pay the rent won't be any easier than your law school aps/scary political interviews.
I hate to leave you, but I've got to finish reading an article for my film class at 6. Well, I probably don't, because we're watching Vertigo. That'll take up pretty much the entire class, but I really should at least make an effort to go over it.
Sorry again, Tiff. I think we're all due one total train-wreck of an interview. Hopefully mine will be tomorrow at that mystery indy joint, since I don't really want it anyway.
So you have an interview with the indie folks tomorrow? Yay! At least it's something! You'll probably learn a lot. Like how to make a Panavision camera out of an empty milk jug, a bottle cap and alunimum foil!
Is it sad that when you said "Vertigo", I was like, "Wow, how many times can you watch a music video to fill up one class session?"
Have fun!
ETA: Are there really only 8 Rent-related threads on the main board? It's sad that this is called a slow day.
Nic, do you have plans on Sunday 11/20?
*A* and I really wanting to see Rent from the front row and are trying to stack our lottery odds that evening. Anyway you could be persuaded?
I think we are also doing Spelling Bee lottery on 11/23 mat, but I am content with the SROs for that.
I should be available to pad the odds on 11/20! Are you still going to SWIWS? Should the four of us (you, A, me, and Claire) grab a bite to eat after the show, then we could swing up to the Neder?
I alas, will not be here on 11/23, so if you do opt for the lotto for Bee, I won't be there to help you out on that.
Huzzah, I got an e-mail from ticket Stacey! Claire, she wanted a picture, shall I send our Goldblum pic?? I actually don't think I have any other pictures of me on my computer (I do have a CD w/ the pix I took of us at Penn after Coldplay, but I look kind of drunk in that, so I don't really want to send that one!)
*ahem*
I know someone who has pictures of you on a computer.
Mabs, I just sent her the Goldblum picture before I came here!
eta: I hope that's okay, I figured she'd have to know what we both look like, and that picture has both of us in it. I've never seen the pics of us at Penn Station, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to! I know I looked like crap. I remember being exhausted while waiting for that train.
And Tiff: See? My faith in people and my trusting nature is accurate! We're really going!
Updated On: 11/8/05 at 10:16 PM
That's fine, Claire. I was going to send that picture too, but I wanted to double check w/ you first. I cropped it so that it was just me and Jeff's ginormous hand on my shoulder, but the 3 of us is just fine!
Yeah, I could have always sent her the Chili Beef picture, Tiff! I think the quality pictures of me are few and far between. There's always me looking like a derelict at the Marriott! Actually, that picture isn't bad.
Ugh! Bloomberg was re-elected! BOOOO!!!
I wrote back to Stacey, and told her that while I was totally cool w/ holding her space in line, that I wasn't savvy on line-etiquitte, and that after reading some stuff last night, that might actually not go over so well w/ people in line. She said she might try coming in on Sunday. That'd be nice. I'd hate to be in the middle of a line revolt!...She said she had a bunch of other replies. I wonder if anyone else offered her crazy $$!?! I layed it on pretty thick that we were thrilled about having GA for the first time, having previously been relegated to seats behind the stage (just in case).
