Ladies, gentlemen, I have a confession to make.
Tonight, I watched Reefer Madness.
After that, I watched another movie.
Spice World.
And I'd seen it multiple times already. (In grade school, so bugger off.)
And I'm so loving the music. And it's presently being downloaded on my iPod.
From the Spice Girl CDs already in my possession.
And I'm dancing around my room to it.
With the actual dance moves I already memorized when I was 13.
I'm so sorry.
Spice World?!?! Tsk, tsk...though I suppose it could be justified as good, trashy fun. And there's always Alan, and anything w/ Alan can't be all bad, right?
I must say, I never really got into The Spice Girls. I didn't own their CD(s) (was it just the one, or were there more?!) Though I did see the movie...for ALAN!
I purused that roommate list thing. The sad thing is, I have my own ridiculous set of things she does (and other crazy rommies have done) that I feel could be on there, but they really happened!
I'm seriously the only one here who hasn't seen Spice World? Does that make me the coolest?!
That list was pretty funny, Tiff. Nic, you should try some of those! Give your roomie a little taste of craziness and see if she can take it as well as she dishes it out.
I really have nothing to contribute here, but I'm bored, and I've just finished an incredibly exhausting week at school. I don't know why it seemed to tiring. It wasn't really like I had anything huge due. This weekend's going to be a bitch though. I've got to read a 450 page novel for my WS class and write a paper on it, finish another book for my lit class (100 pages or so), read another 100 or so pages for a COM test on Tuesday, and he just assigned the chapters on Tuesday...nice...though at least he's realized that he totally dropped the ball w/ this test (he randomly didn't show up for class either day a couple of weeks ago) so he's letting us use our books/notes (though I want to at least read through it before hand). Ugh! And I really should catch up that damn Joyce. Oh, and I have my first show to review for Theater Talk on Saturday...Busy, busy, busy!
I should probably get going on some of this crap, but I really just don't have it in me tonight. At least crazy isn't here. It's 35 degrees out, so I was anticipating returning from class to find the windows all open! Nope. Huzzah! It's all about the little things, mates.
35 degrees?! Ugh, it's gonna be so hard for me to come home. It's in the 70s here.
I don't have anything to contribute, either. I leave tomorrow morning and I can't wrap my brain around it. I'm really gonna miss it here. I've been trying to spend as much time enjoying the city as possible. Today my friend and I went out to brunch and I got these amazing chocolate pancakes wrapped around fruit salad and cream. It was soooo good. I'm still stuffed. I also got my ear pierced (the cartiledge), and it really, really hurts. I've been running around doing all kinds of last-minute errands (closing my bank account and library account, returning keys, etc.). And don't even ask me about packing. It's impossible to fit 5 months of your life into one suitcase and a backpack.
I hope you're managing with all your work, Mabs! Try to enjoy the weekend!
Wow. This is quite a disjointed, rambling post.
Geez, one suitcase and a backpack?!? Can you pack up a box or two and just mail stuff back to your house? Some lighter stuff?
It really had been lovely the past couple of weeks (really ever since Tiff left ) but it was FREEZING today! Well, it's probably still not that bad, considering it's over a week into November. It was in the 50s and sunny this afternoon, but once the sun went down...brrrr!!!
I've never gotten around to getting any other piercings other than my ears (that I got when I was 4 or 5). I'm such a wimp! Be sure to keep it clean. I seem to recall a lot of friends in high school that got their cartiledge pierced and it seemed like it was easily infected. That's my motherly advice of the evening.
I was just listening to our 10/8 show w/ Bono yelling at that fan for being on their cell phone. I don't think I'd listened to this show. Boy, he really did go off on that guy! I would have CRIED! I kid you not. Not only did he yell: "Turn your F*CKing phone off, Christ!" But he proceeded to mockingly say "Hey mom! Yeah, they're playing [X] now, and it's really going off," in this totally catty voice. It was actually incredibly mean!
Speaking of jaw-dropping. That brunch sounded INSANE!!! That sounds heavenly. Mmmmmm!!! Actually, I'm really hungry now. Pity I don't really have anything that's even remotely up to par w/ that! YUM!
Oh, I already mailed a box back. And I still have too much stuff. I'm seriously going to be wearing 10 layers on the plane. No joke. Everything that won't fit is going on my body (which is gonna be a lot).
I hope it gets warm again! Especially when we'll each be waiting outside all day in the GA line.
Thanks for the earring advice, mom! The lady who pierced it really scared me with all the instructions. I have to wear my hair pulled back for the next few weeks (hair carries dust and could infect it), I can't get shampoo or conditioner near it, I can't touch it if I haven't washed my hands, I have to clean it twice a day...it's crazy! I have four other holes in my ears, and they didn't hurt nearly as much as this one does or require as much maintenance.
Yeah, that brunch was seriously one of the best meals I've ever had.
It sounds like Bono was really mean to that fan. I probably would have cried, too! That sounds awful! Was that at the same show where he was high or the teleprompter broke?
Well, well, well! I have a feeling you're going to be a bit toasty on the plane! Couldn't you send another small box w/ clothes (I wouldn't think that'd be too heavy). I think you'd just start to melt on the plane w/ lots of layers on.
I just hope it doesn't rain on the 21st/22nd. Something quasi-warm would be nice, but really...Please just don't rain!!!
I seem to recall having friends having said that about wearing their hair up for a while. That's gotta be kind of rough not getting any shampoo or conditioner in it. Do you have a little shower ear baggie?!? I toyed with the idea of getting a nose ring for a while, but I don't think I could pull it off, so I didn't bother.
And I suppose Bono had bizarre moments at each of our shows. 10/8 was the rant at the fan on the phone. 10/10 was the Pride debacle: "One man......*cricket*cricket*......" Cue the crowd chiming in w/ the lyrics after an incredibly awkward silence. Then 10/14 had that bizarre "Edge is a spaceman of the future" rant. I just don't know about him!
Oh my God, Nic! I haven't listened to that part of 10/8 yet! Which song was it during, again?
*This might be a spoiler, if you're really thick in the head, Claire*
SBS?
*end spoiler - and I mean, they've played that song every concert since the first leg, so it really shouldn't be any surprise.*
Anyway, nothing much to contribute today. Worked 8.5hrs all afternoon and night, so I'm tired and bored. That brunch sounded incredible, Claire! You had me at "chocolate pancakes". What kind of masochist are you to get your cartiledge pierced?? Do you mean the upper part of your ear, or that little nubby part that's still attached to your face? I went with a friend when she got that part pierced, and she screamed like I've never thought was humanly possible. My hairs almost stood on end.
No complaining about cold, Nic! Cold is okay! You can put on a few layers. Rain...is NOT okay. Unless your few layers comprise of head-to-toe pastic, rubber and water-proof synthetics. Grr...
Anyway, I'm working again tomorrow and doing a bunch of asshat stuff, so toodles till then!
(PS. Nic - anything new on the internship front?)
(PPS. Have a good flight, Claire!)
Ugh! Elphie, please tell me you didn't get your tragus pierced! My couple of friends that have had that pierced said the pain was ungodly. My friend Adam as getting it pierced on both ears, and they screwed one up, and it was big mess (w/ pain, infection, etc).
Oh, and as a follow-up to Elphie's comment from Edge a few days ago about musicals...apparetnly he and Bono are writing the music for a new Spiderman musical that's projected to be on Broadway in two years! Could be interesting, I guess. It sounds more promising than Dublin Boys: The Musical.
Nothing new on the internship front. Surprise, surprise. Maybe they're waiting until after Thanksgiving to start their interviewing?? I guess I'll wait until then to start freaking out/getting really depressed.
Off to try putting a dent in my hundreds and hundreds of pages of reading. What fun!
Oh, and Tiff, that was the song that he bitched the fan out it. I didn't hear any of the "Mom" stuff when we saw the show, just "Turn your F*CKing phone off!"..."Get in the moment" (well, he says that several times). The mom thing was particularly mean, I think. That's what would have sent me over the edge (no pun intended).
I had read about an Edge outburst on the Boston Elevation DVD, so I popped that in at some point last week, and he goes nuts at the end of Gone, throwing it down on the ground and then proceeding to kick it off the stage! Very un-Edge-like. And the thread on-line had a picture of him screaming at Larry. I couldn't tell if it was a screen-cap or a picture that someone took at the show, but he looked CER-AY-ZEE! Don't mess w/ The Edge!
Aah, "tragus". I didn't know there was a name for it! Try pinching it with your fingernails - that already hurts enough. And my friend's screaming was just...ugh. It puffed up for the first few days and there was ungodly puss-y mess. Gross.
Spiderman musical? Ehhh...well, so long as Bono's not writing the book for it, we don't have to worry about another M$H, I guess.
Is there a clip online of Edge's Boston Elevation outburst?? I didn't know it's happened before! Why Larry out of everybody? I suppose this was his turning point, before he became both the "Zen master" and "kung-fu master"?
Someone copied this on interference (from u2log.com, they said):
"Are U2 set to conquer Broadway? Variety reports that Bono and Edge are in discussion with Marvel Comics and producer Tony Adams to create the music for Spider-Man, the musical! Variety’s sources say that if all goes as planned, fellow Irishman Neil Jordan will write the script and Julie Taymor (“The Lion King”) will direct."
The thread that I saw about Edge freaking out mentioned something about him dropping his pick during Gone, so he had to play it w/o, and something about him motioning for Larry to end the song early (or slow it down) but Larry misinterpreted it and extended the song (sped it up?) so Edge was pissed once it ended. I don't know if I'd buy that though, because wouldn't he have a slew of extra picks on his mic? Or even on his guitar? I've never noticed on Edge's guitar, but you can always see that Adam's got one on his bass. Dunno, but he did kind of spaz out! I'm not sure if there's a clip on-line. I'll let you know if I see one.
I've wasted so much time today trolling around myspace looking up people that I went to high school w/. It's so funny to see what people are up to. This one kid that graduated a year ahead of me is living in NYC doing sound for some up-and-coming bands and touring around. He also produced and helped co-write an EP for a girl that graduated a year after me. She had a link to the EP on CDbaby.com, and it was half-way decent. I don't know. It was rather amusing. It was interesting to see how many people are gay too. People that I had thought might be, and then people that I never would have guessed.
Unfortunately, my little escapade on myspace ended up taking a huge chunk out of my afternoon, and I've been somewhat less than productive! So, back to reading, I suppose.
ETA: Good lord! People are married too! YIKES!
OH, and here's a YSI video of blindfolded-Bono in Vegas not able to find the mic...HHAAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!
I think this is happening far too often!
*flop*
Last few days have been busy and exhausting. And I got a parking ticket, even though it was 30 minutes away from being free.
It appears Tiff + Car = Too Much $$ & Hassle
Awww, I'm sorry to hear about your parking ticket, Tiff. I don't know how your meter-folks are in Canada, but it seems like here 1/2 before free-time they go all out trying to get the last stragglers who aren't paid up. I'd have to agree; it does't seem like you're having the best car luck lately.
Nothing much else new here. I've been having a hell of a time trying to finish this damn novel for my WS class. It's beyond infuriating. It's Elizabeth Gaskell's Ruth about some poor orphaned girl who gets knocked up. She's just so obnoxious. I really can't stand reading it, but I also don't have much choice in the matter. I've been stuck around page 200 for the past day or so. I'll read 2 or 3 pages and then decide to take a nap, or grab something to eat, or pop on here (good thing no one was around yesterday!). Not looking forward to another day full of Ruth and her weepy woes.
I went to my first Theater Talk show last night. It was a kiddy friendly do-wop version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was kind of cute, and it was really funny to see little kids getting such a boot out of it. There was this one little girl (probably about 2 or 3) sitting on her father's lap in the front row who was literally howling with laughter at one point. My friend and I were dying laughing! And then there was another little boy that kept sneaking down the side aisle, trying to get closer, who was just beyong cute! I certainly don't think it was worth the $40 they regularly charged, but w/ comp'd tix, and those kids that were such a riot, it was a fun way to spend the evening.
What's everyone getting for the Chicago DVD? I'm debating whether to get the 2-disc special one or not. It seemed like the general consensus was that it didn't really seem worth it. I picked up a used copy of the 2-disc (was there even a single disc version?) Elevation Boston, and the 2nd disc doesn't really have anything all that special. There are alternate angles of the show, and a 3 minute time-lapsed set up/tear down of the show...then just a handful of other tracks and trailers. The documentary on the making of the video is on the main disc, and if that's the case w/ Vertigo, I think I'll just go for that. I don't think another version of SYCMIOYO from some other city and a couple other little odds and ends would really be worth the extra $10-12. We'll see.
ETA: Looks like the special edition has the tour documentary, and the main disc is just the concert. Booo! Here's what Amazon has listed as "special" for the collector's edition:
***This Limited Edition Double Disc Set comes in special packaging and includes a bonus second disc featuring a ‘behind-the-scenes’ documentary as well as other exclusive unseen performance elements.***
Hmmm...maybe I'll just have my parents pick it up for me and save it for a "Chirstmas present"? We don't really do the whole Christmas festivities thing anymore, but they still pick up stuff like CDs/DVDs/books, etc for me and hoard them until I come home for the winter break. I probably wouldn't have time to really watch it until then any way.
ETA: On a mini-break from that wretched book, and I saw some blurb about there being a special thank you to Edge's daughter who was ill on the DVD. Full name: Sian Beatrice Echo Steinberg Evans. That's one hell of a name, lemme tell ya! My goodness!
EATA: Just peeked in on the setlist for tonight's show. 2 non-spoiler specific things: I'm LOVING the new NightI setlist, and I hope this single date in Tampa doesn't screw it up! I want that setlist on the 21st! And 2: Bono got lost blindfolded AGAIN! That's like 4 times that I can think of this leg! I think he either needs to leave it up so he can peek or set himself up so that he's closer to the mic. He's gonna fall of the stage!
Can you sparknotes Ruth? The plot doesn't sound too heinous, but I suppose if the main character is totally unsympathetic (and not in an endearingly-obnoxious sort of way), it would be unbearable.
I just finished Angels & Demons today. I think I like it better than Da Vinci Code. Faster-paced, and a better plot.
I'm going to get the 2-disc Chicago DVD, just because Future Shop (our Best Buy equivalent) has it on sale for $22.99, while the 1-disc one is regular price, at $26.99! If the 2-disc one were regular price and over, say, $4 more expensive than the 1-disc, I wouldn't even bother though.
PS.
ETA: Looks like the special edition has the tour documentary, and the main disc is just the concert. Booo! Here's what Amazon has listed as "special" for the collector's edition:

Echo-o-o... I just posted that verbatim like, two days ago in a ginormous post including user reviews, and no one acknowledged it except for Claire. I thought you guys just weren't interested in the DVD or something.
PS. Guess? brand corduroy jackets. CAD$17. You coming to Vancouver yet???
I saw your post about the DVD w/ the setlist, but I didn't remember it saying what the breakdown for what was on which DVD. It certainly makes more senes to have all the "bonus" stuff on the 2nd disc. I really don't get why they even bothered w/ the 2nd one on the Boston Elevation DVD. It's basically just a couple different anlges of songs and the trailers for PopMart Mexico and ZooTV Sydney that still haven't been released 4 years later.
Ruth is getting quasi-interesting, but good lord, it took long enough! I can't really spark-note it because I have to write a paper culling out passages for my paper topic. She was just so damn weepy for 200++ pages! Ugh!
And the show in Miami is over, so I guess I should go back to reading. Blech! They reverted back to the regular encore that they've had this leg, rather than the "special" encore tonight. *shrug* I shall happily take what I get, though I'll be pulling for one song (any) I haven't heard yet.
How's everything else going, Tiff?
Still pondering about Vancouver. The cheap jackets are tempting!
What's the price difference between the 1-disc and the 2-disc?
Is this the only/first concert in Miami? That must've been a pretty short set - didn't we start exiting MSG around 11:45?? Who opened tonight?
Everything else is meh-to-okay. Boss was a raging bitch today (it's the first shift I've had to work with her since before my trip), and Mcgill (Montreal's reputable university) just made their law program mandatory bilingual instead of giving people the option, and frankly, you heard my French. There's no way I could discuss the weather fluently, much less argue a case!
Et tu? Did the indie place2 call you back?
Giving up on reading for the night, but in an effort to go to bed early and do some reading before class.
Anyway...The 1-Disc is on sale for $11 or $12 and the 2-Disc is $23, I believe. I'll probably end up just getting the 2-Disc event though I'm sure the tour documentary is probably 20 minutes long and totally not worth the extra $10.
Still no word from anybody on the internship front. Very strange. It's one thing not actually get an offer, but not to even get called in to an interview?! I'm hoping that they're all waiting to do interviews until after Thanksgiving/before Christmas, like AMC is. It's very disheartening. They could at least call me in for a pity interview. Come on now, people! Toss me a bone! I've sent out a dozen or so, and I've heard back from one! I've got a few more to send out tomorrow. It's a good thing I've got so much SH*T to do that I don't have time to get depressed about this!
This was the first of two shows in Miami. Then one in Tampa, two in Atlanta, and then MSG!!! And only 2 papers and an exam in between now and the show! No prob, right? RIGHT?!?!
That sucks about the bilingual thing. You'd think it's be something that they'd work in gradually, not just be like "oh, by the way, you'd better be able to argue this case en Francais aussi!" How's your Chinese? I take it not so hot, since you went right to the French being passe'...There's always New York!
And here I am replying to myself.
Just sent out for two more internships (general NBC and Queer Eye). I should probably send out one to Charlie Rose, but I'm not really sure I want to bother. I have a feeling my interview there would be on par w/ Tiff's last week. I'd be all for the artsy-type guests, but I am so dense on current affairs/politics, etc that I'd really just be an embarassment. It'd probably figure that they'd be the only ones to actually call me back too. A real boost of confidence there.
Anyway, just popping in to say: HOORAY! Only a week until U2! I really wish I could go on the 22nd, but it's good to know that at least Claire will be there. Oh, and the weather looks like it's supposed to be quasi-decent. Chilly, but sunny. *thumbs up* I think I can handle 50 and sunny. Today's absolutely beautiful! T'would be a LOVELY day to sit around in the GA line.
I'm off. I have to decide what I want to sign up for for my last class. I've got 12 credits and need to pick one more class. There's really not a whole lot to pick from. I was going to take Art History, but I heard from many people that it's unnecessarily intense, and frankly, I don't need that right now. Then there's some history of Rock that sounds interesting, but that'd put me up to 3 night classes and I really don't want that. I suppose I could always sign up for it and swap it out for something else later, because that class always seems to fill up pretty quickly. I have an hour to decide.

NBC and Queer Eye would be fun! I would love to be based at Rockefeller Ctr!
Oh heck, who cares about 11/22? (Er, Claire, if you read this, I mean...who cares about 11/21? Yeah, that's right...)
You guys are both going to one show, and you've got a floor ticket. That makes up for all the other shows you've missed or are going to miss!
BTW, I'm almost finished reading the Rolling Stone article. Let's discuss.

Oops, I mean Rolling Stone. As in the magazine, not the crusty in-denial-geris.
Have you read it yet? Even though Bono's waaaay too verbose, a lot of what he has to say is quite interesting.

Hey all! I have 1 minute left at an Internet Cafe so I popped in here! I'm in Auckland! Going to OTH tomorrow! yay!
