*squeal* Gloria?? For real?? I love that song! I'm not on my regular comp right now so I can't DL last night's show, but I will either later on today or tomorrow and re-read your post. I noticed that guy and the DVD - out of principle, I don't want to buy it from him but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to catch a glimpse. Good luck getting those vids, Mabel, and remember your sweet ol' friends from BWW! (BTW, I know I still have to send you the CDs - I promise I'm a good trader. I just suck at timeliness.)

I believe you Tiff...just remember. Those tix are stuck on MY FRIDGE at home! Seriously though, whenever you get around to the CDs is fine (honestly, even if you just brought them w/ you in Oct, that'd be fine...well, probably not. I wanted BfOz for Arthur's theme. I'm going to make a NYC themed mix CD for a friend that's moving out of the city at the end of the summer...so make sometime before August your goal and we'll be cool!). I'm more anxious about getting a group of CDs from some guy in Florida at the moment. It's seriously going on a month, and that's pissing me off a bit. He supposedly got a new CD burner and it's not working right (I bet!), and he said he'd send a couple extra things to make up for the delay...doubt it, but whatever.

Ugh. Is it a U2 trade or a Broadway trade?

U2. I haven't done any Broadway trades for a while, actually. I need to get Spamalot and DRS though! The thing is I really would rather have videos of Broadway shows (well, I'd rather have videos of anything, but) I don't have the capabilities to copy video (VHS or DVD) at school. I did a hell of a lot of trading this summer, living w/ my friend w/ all the fun copying equipment!...Anyway, it was originally the Brooklyn Bridge/B-sides for another MSG show from Elevation, and then, after it took so long, he said he'd throw in any show that I picked from his INSANE list (seriously, like 500!) and I said I'd be interested in either their first gig in Boston from 1980 or PopMart Sarajevo (not sure if he'd end up sending both or just Boston, which out of the three is what I really want! I guess they were the opening act for someone else and were called back for two encores...pretty much unheard of for an unknown opening act, I guess)

Speaking of bad traders, I've been bad myself. I've got a bunch of REMs to finish up for a massive trade to Australia. NEED to get that out Friday! It's so pathetic that I sat on my ass over the entire spring break, and couldn't manage so get up during commercials to change CDs! Pathetic!

God, why am I so long-winded!!!!

Do you see what I mean?? I suppose I could log off and burn the last of your CDs (I've finished BFO...can you remind me of the other ones? re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates! *only half joking*) buuuuuut...I'm just developing this ass groove on here so...no. I'm awful. I WILL have the CDs done by August though for sure!! re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Cool, cool! That's totally fine by me! It's amazing how lazy you can allow yourself to get though! I brought so much stuff home w/ me for spring break w/ the best intentions to just hang out on the couch w/ the dog and catch up on stuff. Didn't happen! Well, I did lounge on the couch, I guess. Seriously though, how can you get anything done when the TV at home has like 300 channels?!?! I watched some wonderfully trashy movies on all those Cinemax/Stars/HBO/HBO 2/3/4...12/HBO Comedy/HBO Romance, etc, etc, etc!!! What a glorious way to spend a week!

Anyway, off to bed...looking forward to a grownupgroupie review sometime tomorrow!

I'd, uh, give you ahhhhh uhhhh a more thoughtful response right now but I've got my eye on Keanu getting it on with Charlize on TV.

And I'm picking gunk out of my toenails.

What do you expect me to do??

G'night!

Girls,

I haven't had my coffee yet, so I will do the blow by blow later (although really, all the fansites are probably doing better than I could.)

But that said?

WHOA. F-ING AMAZING!!!!!!! We had an amazing time!!! Highlights:

Gloria? Are you kidding me!!?? I FREAKED OUT! I was SO HAPPY to see something from October. In fact, it surprised me so much that i didn't place it at first b/c i was so conditioned to hear something else from Boy. I lost it. Amazing. Adam's bass solo was awesome--I leaned over to my bf and said "this is totally Adam's song" and like 1 second later Bono was like "Adam Clayton on bass" :)

Was really surprised to hear WOWY--thought I would be fine not hearing it, but it was pretty cool to have that surprise.

I could be wrong, but (forgetting which song now) I swear Bono through a line from Party Girl into the end of one of the early songs.

He did that bit from "send in the clowns" w/ Electric Co. again. Hilarious.

Larry on the this TINY little casio keyboard thing? so funny.

The Edge is ONE SEXY MOTHER F&&^$%ER--he blew me away on NYD--switching back and forth from guitar to keyboards. Amazing.

Bono did this funky forward-reverse moonwalk thing. He is such a showman, I love it.

Running and Streets are two of my all-time favorites and both were insane. Between those, Gloria, and City of Blinding Lights, it was almost like church in therere: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Bono probably didn't think this was cool, but it made them SO human, I loved it. "40" started and he was just way off key--like 2 keys sharper than he should have been. This is my musical theatre dork coming in, but I lean over to my bf, all concerned, like "he's totally sharp!" and then Edge and Bono exchange this look--it's just glaringly obvious and he's not finding the right note--so almost all the way through the 1st verse, he stops, says "sorry" and they start it over from the beginning after Adam and Edge help him find the right note. I thought it was great--I mean, that's live music! And prior to that, i'd been thinking his voice sounded better than ever, so maybe his ear was out or something.

More later. My only disappointment was that the crowd realyl wussed out way early on the "how long to sing this song"--it was like they didn't get the memo or something! It only went on a few times through after the lights went up.

BUT.....it was A M A Z I N G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOOOHOOO!! Thanks so much for your review!!!

As cool as it'd be to hear An Cat/Heart revived, I'd SO much rather hear Gloria! The end just kicks so much ass. LOVE IT!

I seriously can't wait until May!

Oh, and Edge on NYD...CRAZY! I picked up the Slane DVD used a couple months ago, and I was like "what the hell?!?!" Back and forth, back and forth. The man's amazing!

Yay, thanks Groupies!

But how come you girls are so intent on learning every little detail?! I didn't even want to know the set list...although I did take a tiny peek. Just a quick skim. And would you really download the first show or buy it on eBay?? Madness! I mean, how often do you get to see U2 play live? Okay, more than me - but still! Do you not want to be surprised? Think of all the time Bono and the boys have spent planning and orchestrating the perfect show for us, and then you have the nerve to ruin all his fun! Kinda. Whatever. You know what I mean...it's like opening your Christmas presents at the start of November.

Oh, and one little correction from about two pages ago - they didn't write Sweetest Thing for the greatest hits CD, as you should know Tiff. Tsk.

Great review, groupie, thanks for that! It sounds like a great show, I like the setlist better than the one for the first show.

Ellie, I like reading the setlists because I don't really think it ruins anything. Every show will be a little different. It's fun hearing the details and seeing how things are evolving! I don't think it will ruin the actual experience for me at all.

I'll add more info later on since I'm running out the door, but just wanted to reply to Ellie's query

.....it's funny. I don't want to know EVERY little detail, but I have to say i kind of liked having a general idea of the setlist beforehand b/c when a song would start I'd get really excited b/c I KNEW what they were doing vs. that moment of what is this? AND.....it kind of made it even MORE exciting for the surprises (esp. Gloria) b/c I was like WHAT!!!??? Just my .02. PLUS.....no amount of reading the setlists, seeing others' comments, or hearing bootlegs could capture it--I was reminded last night what performers they are! It's all about the live moment.....the sets/lights/effects were very low key but they were PEFFECT--little things that I could try to describe but that you guys will totally get in person no matter how much you know in advance.

(Oh, and of course The Sweetest Thing was a JT B-side, but I just thought Tiff meant that it'd been specifically included on the greatest hits)

GOD, it was such a great show! What I think you get most of all from seeing them live is how much of a BAND--a four-piece--they are vs. seeing/hearing in the media. Seeing them live it's so not just Bono and they boys....each of them is so integral and kicks SO MUCH serious as$!! I mean, Edge is just a savant--his hands should be insured for zillions.

GAHH!!! It was so great. We were just bouncing up and down the whole time. We took a bunch of pics--the're probably not great--but I'll see about posting them. And they've got some great tshirts/posters/etc.....I bought a few new "pieces of flair" (buttons) to go w/ my vintage rusty october-era ones:)

Oh and Bono referred to the ellipse as the "bomb shelter." I have to run, but I have way more details for later. Plenty of the usual political preaching from Bono, smirking from Adam, beautiful vocals from Edge (dude, he deserves more than Seconds and Van Diemens land!) and adorable laughing from Larry when they screwed something up.

AHHHH! Still so psyched about it! :)

I can totally see where you're coming from Ellie on the setlists, but there's no way I could avoid reading reviews and stuff until May (or October in your case). Besides, I'd tend to think the set would be pretty different for the third let. I don't know. It just seems like when they're going on month 7 of the tour, they'd have made some significant changes.

I'm not going to go crazy downloading all kinds of shows (seriously, some of those people are nuts wanting every show!) but I was curious to hear the first show, and since that guy had it streaming on his website, I listened to it twice. I'll likely be skimming the setlists to see how they evolve and to keep an eye peeled for a show that might pop up w/ a rarity that pops up out of the blue or something.

Speaking of rarities...have you all heard Mercy? (Well, I know Tiff and Elphie have, since it was on the B-Sides CD) I was scanning through a thread on interference this morning about songs that people wanted to hear (and there seems to be a lot of buzz in general about this being like "the epitome of U2 songs that's somehow slipped through the cracks and never made it on an official release.") I don't get it, myself. I really, really don't like it. Just my random thought of the day. I don't really expect this to go anywhere, but...yeah.

hm. I haven't noticed lots of people raving about Mercy before. But I love it. A lot. So it makes sense to me. I've wondered why it hasn't been released too. I can't explain why, I just think its such a beautiful song.

I don't really like Gloria actually. I know everyone was excited about hearing that rarity, but I certainly won't mind if its not played at the concerts I go to. But I know I'm in the minority there.

Well, I guess I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. Something about Mercy just doesn't do it for me. I don't know...like it's a poor man's Hawkmoon 269 or something. Does that make sense? Like the whole song just being a list of things. "Like the heat needs the sun/Like honey on her tongue/Like the muzzle of a gun" vs. "If you were ice... I'm water /And with your telescope... I can see further /We're binary code... a one and a zero /You wanted violins... and you got Nero"...and for whatever reason, I like Hawkmoon more than Mercy. Maybe it's the fact that Mercy's slower, and part of me just feels like it's a bit too long. I don't know??...I do enjoy Gloria though, I must say. I wouldn't necessarily want to hear it at every concert, but I'd be kind of bummed not to hear it once.

My U2 tickets just came in the mail today! Squee! (Granted, "my" U2 tickets will really be Mabel's tickets, and the tickets I got today aren't going to be my seats - whoo for section 207 baby! - but I'm still so ****ing excited at the near-certainty of it all!)

I'll be popping in and out because I just got home and I haven't had time to check out Interference yet, but to respond to Ellie, I'll just reiterate what Grownup said:

"(Oh, and of course The Sweetest Thing was a JT B-side, but I just thought Tiff meant that it'd been specifically included on the greatest hits)"

Thank you. That's what I meant. I mean, they stuck that thing on there twice. (Two more than necessary, IMHO - not a bad song, but not one of their bests either.) Ass.

And I suppose there are some good points about knowing the setlist/set design etc. - but I still want to be surprised! Damn the internet and a world of information at my fingertips.re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!

Really? See I want to know all the setlists before hand. I'm not a "surprise" kind of gal. I want to know what to expect so I can anticipate it when it comes, and be especially thrilled when they add onto/change their set list so I know that my show's getting something unique and special! Plus that way I can familiarize myself with their stuff from 90-00 because I mostly know the '80s and the new stuff. I'm so excited! *happy dance*

Yeeeaaah, that sort of makes sense. At the same time though, I'm glad I know what's not on the setlist so far (Like "I Will Follow" *sobbing hard*) that way I'm not entirely crushed if they don't play it in Seattle/MSG. And then if they DO play it, I'll be over the moon with delight! (They might play it by surprise....right?)

Maybe they'll do it just for you, Tiff.*

And do you kerazy folks the setlist will really be all that different in October? 'Cos, like...why would it be? Would the lads be tired of playing the same songs, or is it for the benefit of the stalker-peeps like you guys?

I HOPE the setlist is different in October. Especially in cities where they're playing more than one or two shows - wouldn't it be boring to play the same set list for the same demographic for 6 nights in a week??

Change your avatar. After your own photo, this one terrifies me the most. Bring back Billie!

Yeah, and I suppose if the setlist changes frequently it does lend some credence to all you bootleggy-downloady-freaks, and all you multiple-show-freaks. *ponders*

Also, I assume the tour will be released on DVD at some stage - does anybody know what city will be recorded? NYC? Dublin? The last one was Dublin...the one before that Boston, right? So MSG?

And what's wrong with my avatar??? You're hardly one to talk about scary icons, you hypocritical lunatic.

Oh my. If they record NYC...*creams*

I think the core setlist of "must sing" songs stays the same (pretty much most/all of Atomic Bomb) but everything else is a toss up. I'm excited to see Zoo Station, and I'm warming up to the Vertigo/SFB medley. I just have to educate myself on their middle period. You wanna enlighten me so I don't have to, like, do research by myself?

By the way, I miss my scary avatars. re: (Unofficial) U2 World Tour Dates!
