U2 Tour Dates - Now Official!

I know! I saw the photos and was very impressed. Mostly impressed that you actually know who Paul Martin, but...you know. You know the nifty story about how he's a U2 fan and called Bono personally to ask the boys to do a concert in Ottawa, eh?
Did you guys read about the tribute Bono did for the Pope in Anaheim? And he talked about how John Paul II gave him the crooked sword (?) and a rosary, which Bono keeps in his pocket when he's performing, and he hung it onto his microphone stand when he left the stage at the end of the encore.
I'm going to go for not-behind-the-stage or nothing. I'm going to have one screen trying for GAs first (I'm the nerd who actually screencapped TM when you click on the price range and then on the section you want, so I'll be especially adept on Saturday.) and and another for Best Available.
I have my Vancouver tickets on sale on eBay. (If you care to search, it's pretty easy to figure out which one is me.) There's something fishy about the highest bidder right now though, although it took me morally questionable means to come to this conclusion.

I couldn't find your listing on eBay, Tiff...there are like 359126 people selling tix, you bunch of money-grabbing scumbuckets, you.

Posted: 4/5/05 at 7:44pm*sigh* never mind, my joke failed. I was implying that I was the high bidder who you called fishy (I'm not)....anyway, what were the morally questionable means you used to come to that conclusion?

I can't believe a fish joke flew over my head. Can't say I'm surprised Ellie got it though. Heightened sensitivity, are we? I don't call her Smellie for nothing!
As for my morally questionable method...well...uh... *shifty eyes* Don't be mad. (Not that it negatively affected you or anything!)

Posted: 4/5/05 at 8:02pmBack to the question at hand...come on people! Why do you think this person's shadey, Tiff? How so? Gonna screw you out of a payment? Doing something funky to keep the bid low? What gives?

Okay, mad wasn't the right word. How about "judgmental"?
It's not actually that fun of a story - just sort of suspicious. I started the opening bid at $214, which was face value. One guy with 2 feedbacks bided up till $220. Then some newbie bid over that, to like $222. So, I, er, *squirm* got a friend to bump up the bid incrementally to see how high he was willing to go. It wasn't just so he would pay more, but I realized that with the PayPal fees, eBay percentage and such, I would need to have the winning bidder pay a bit over face value if I wanted to break even, otherwise I'd just get my friend to "win" the auction, and then sell it to another U2 fan I know at face value. So my was bidding. And bidding. And the new no-feedback guy was still winning! So eventually she hits CAD$300, and he's still beating her at CAD$305! Which would be great for me, in theory, but I'm getting suspicious because, to put things in perspective, another auction with lower-bowl seats that are better than mine are selling 2 tickets for $305 as well! And mine are in the balcony! So I sent a message to my zero-feedback guy, jsut saying that I wanted to make sure he and other zero-feedback bidders are going to pony up if they win. And that was last night and I sitll haven't received a response. So now I'm worried, because now my auction is sitting at $305 and if he's planning on squelching on the deal, his high bid it preventing other legit buyers from bidding at a more reasonable amount!

Bad Tiff.
I thought I was your phoney bidder fallback!

Ooooh, you know why else this might suck, Tiff? I think if your highest bidder falls though, you have to offer the tix to the next highest bidder, who may have set a bid at or below face. I don't know what all the specifics are of the situation. In addition, I've never sold anything on eBay so I'm not sure if you have to offer the item at the next highest bid, but I know that's happened to me before as a bidder. I ended up passing on it, because by the time I got the e-mail saying I was the next highest bidder, I'd come to my senses and realized how insane I was to have bid so high! So, thanks to that person out there in eBay land for outbidding me, even though he ended up backing out!
*slyly raises eyebrow* Besides, I think you were the one "breakin' the law," my friend.

I agree...twas a bit of a letdown.
When does the auction end Tiff? I can't remember if you said, and I don't feel like tooling around on eBay looking for it.

My auction ends in 3 days and something like 4 hours. If the guy doesn't get back to me by tomorrow, I'm going to canel his bids, as well as my friends, so the original guy and other people have a shot. The second-highest bidder isn't under obligation to buy the item if the first person squelches - I was under that idea as well but I was contacted once as the second-highest bidder, and it was as an off-eBay transation, which I didn't end up going for.
*squirms* Stop looking at me like that! I would have canceled out my friend's bids anyway. I just wanted to see what his max was, and get over $240 so I'd break even! *squirm*

BTW, Aladdin DVD for $11? Nice.

I know eh? Those SatC DVDs cost me an arm and a leg though. I'm most impressed of scoring the Best Of 90-00 + DVD for $7.99, myself.
Wait.
*scared*
I suppose the sn is a bit of a giveaway. Did you notice my friendly NEW phoney bidder fallback?

No need to squirm, Tiff...Hope it ends up working out in your favor. If you end up getting a raw deal on this auction, are you still going for LV? Or are you just going for broke w/ LV no matter what?

Just go for broke, I think. Vancouver's demand isn't even close to what New York is. I think too many scalpers flooded the system, and now it's not even so much that there's little demand, just that there's an over-supply of stock, coupled with the lull after the crazed from the hours after the tickets went on sale...there's tickets selling for under face value. But I figure MGM's going to be a major sell-out, so I'll have better luck. And if I can't sell my future GAs or trade them for MSG so i can wave at you from teh ellipse, well...then I suppose I'll just HAVE to go to Vegas, right?

Speak of the devil (metaphorically speaking. I'm not directly referring to you, Ellie), the guy just responded to my email. Does it sound legit or not?:
Hello.... Thank you for your email. Yes, I'm new here. This is my first experience with ebay. I've selected your tickets to bid on because I live in the lower mainland as well...and I thought it would be easier to purchase from someone who lived here (if my bid won, that is). My best friend from Saskatoon is flying out at the end of the month and I wanted to purchase some tickets for us. We've been U2 fans since the early 80's. I hope I'm doing this right. thanks, kg

You mean the "bomb shelter"???? *wink*
Oh Tiff, I can see it now..."How U2 totally wiped out my bank account and left me penniless on the street: The Type-A-Tiff Story." As much as I'd love to buy extra tix to pay for my tix (and yes, I realize you have more to finance, so it's not really an even playing field there) I just don't have the energy to go through the whole ticketing thing again. Sure, I'll probably end up browsing around for November when it gets closer, but I'm so done with ticketbastard!
