I haven't been a Djokovic fan for a long while. He was so much fun in his early days when he used to do the impersonations of other players on court. He brought some fun to the game but lost it over the years. And then I was pretty much done with him after the 2020 Adria tour, I lost all respect for him. I don't even watch him play anymore. With that said, I have been watching and when I flipped back to his match on Sunday and saw what was going on, I watched. Granted, it was a bit shocking to see him knocked out in the first round. After the match he said that he didn't see himself being back next year, but would see.
So far Alcaraz looks good. Just hoping that wrist holds up. (And I love the longer hair with the headband!) I would love to see a final with him and a young player who unexpectedly makes it to the finals. I think Tiafo will make a run but not make it to the finals.
On the women's side, as much of a Gauff fan as I am, I am pulling for Sabalanka also. I just loveher. Love to watch her play and love her personality. I am also becoming a fan of Madison Keys, who won today.
It was also fun to see Serena and Carlos in mixed doubles. And although she lost, it is always nice to see Venus on the court. I was lucky enough to see her in the first round in 2017. I am looking forward to seeing the sisters play together in doubles.
Thanks for starting a thread. I will be checking in!"
I felt so bad for Jelena Djokovic watching her husband feel so awful and in obvious pain. I bet she was telling him it is time to retire before he really gets hurt.
Still long way to go for Alcaraz and the competition will get tougher. If he wins after 4-month absence with serious wrist injury that would be something. I like the longer hair but please get rid of that dumb headband (IMO). Sebastion Korda does the same thing, not a good look.
I like Gauff also but all it takes is one match for her serve or forehand to go "wonky" and she is done. She looked great in Cincy, we shall see. Personally, I am rooting for Pegula to win.
Talk about star power, Alcaraz and Serena on the same court!! Wish they could have gone further. They need to stop giving Venus WC for singles, 5 years of it is too much. If she wants to continue playing, go through qualifying matches. That should be fun seeing Venus and Serena play doubles. I have never seen Venus or Serena play a match at US Open but did see both of them on the US Open practice courts. I got some cool pictures of both of them.
