What a peak day of tennis this has been (and it's not even over yet). Tiafoe in 5 in another instant classic. Pegula prevails as she goes the distance against Navarro.
What's next, one last 5-setter between Alcaraz and Shelton to end this wild Tuesday?

The best was saved to last as Shelton beats Alcaraz in 5 set thriller ending in a 10-point tiebreak and after 3am this morning. I only watched the first set and was pleasantly surprised at the outcome because Alcaraz had won the first set. I did record it so I may go and watch it at another time. I guess the people with tickets on Ashe yesterday got their money's worth of tennis!!!
I saw part of the match while having drinks after work and continued watching when I got home. Turned it off at the beginning of the last set. I couldn't watch. I have favorite players. Not just rooting for the Americans. Shelton and Tiafoe have just been on fire this year but I didn't expect Shelton to win that match.
I was impressed with Blockz and hope it is him and Van De Zandschlup in the semis. I am also not a big Shelton fan but I hope he wins against Tiafoe.
Before tonight's second men's semifinal, JoJo will perform our national anthem.
Ariana DeBose will perform "America the Beautiful" before the women's singles final, and Miles Caton (Sammie in "Sinners") will sing it before the men's singles final.
Zedd will DJ a set at Armstrong on Saturday night for a post-tournament afterparty, following the conclusion of the women's singles final.

Avenges himself for his 2020 choke with a 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Shelton.
Second career Grand Slam title."
Lots of great players have choked in big matches at US Open including the great Roger Federer. He blew 2-0 set lead to Djokovic (2011) and had two match points on his serve. The key is to admit you did choke and move on, Zverev has done that with two Grand Slam titles.
Zverev took control of the match immediately with break of serve the opening game and never looked back. Even after losing the 3rd set, he broke in the opening game of the 4th set and took away any thoughts of a Shelton comeback. Funny moment was he did not realize he had won at first, then we he did was very nice to Shelton. His speech at trophy was touching especially his mentioning how his mom would not let diabetes stand in the way of him achieving his dreams.
