If the cost is inexpensive most people will go to the doctor for check-ups. The US has a larger number of cases of severe medical conditions, that were preventable, than in countries with universal healthcare. In the US now, many people wait until a problem is really severe and can't be ignored anymore, which in some cases is too late. They aren't seeking earlier attention because they can't afford it. Will there still be some people who don't go to the doctor-of course, but that number won't compare to the those that will.

That is an absolute lie. In a sedentary country like the United States I highly doubt that you will see a huge rise in check-up attendance. What you will absolutely see is a huge rise in emergency room visits for non emergency purposes...

and do you think that a majority of the US' obese population aren't aware that they are obese? The media is saturated with anti-smoking campaigns, but is the Cigarette a dying commodity?

Education doesn't work in a grand scale, and in a country like the United States, universal health care will cost infinitely more than in other countries...

Does anyone seriously believe healthcare costs will not continue to escalate with universal healthcare?

More & more will come out in taxes as time goes on. Some of those who advocate it now will regret it.

If you truly believe costs will not keep going up with UHC, I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

And as much as we like to blame trade agreements like NAFTA, most domestic job losses in the manufacturing sector are due to offshore outsourcing driven by soaring employee entitlement programs such as health insurance. Health insurance has become anathema to small business and industry which requires considerable manual labor. Not everyone can be a knowledge worker in our economy nor can the service sector create all decent paying jobs.

Why don't you tell that to the underprivileged who even with a good education (the acquisition of which is a whole other problem) still won't get a good job.
It boggles my mind how people can reduce such a complex issue to absolutes like that.

You're actually going to compare Haiti one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere to the US to show that we have better health care? Why not compare the US to France? Which spends spends less than half per capita than the US does for it's health care, is ranked #1 by the WHO as the country that provides the best overall health care and provides it to all of their citizens.

So EVERYONE is just supposed to get a good education,and then a good job and health insurance will follow? PROVE IT. If everyone gets a good education and expects to get a good job and health insurance...what happens to those jobs that didn't pay for health insurance...do they just disappear because everyone now has an education? I guess that means if everyone gets a good education we will no longer need, farm workers, service industry employees, the self employeed? Wow, that'll be great, but who's gonna harvest the crops? Work in the fast food restaurants, deliver your pizza?

Yeah, I have a thought. Why can't we all have it?
