If Kudrow joined the cast in ANY capacity, it would automatically become must see tv for me.

NBC isn't exactly rolling in options.

I was looking forward to it going single-camera, because I just found it hilarious. I just can't believe this show is still talked about in the present and future tense. I wish no one involved in the show ill, and indeed, I love them all, Maya and Christina and Will and that sexy brother and poor fired Missy. But this show was really really really bad.

I enjoy the show, it's had some ups and downs but i really like the cast. They should never have have got rid of the 'talk show' aspect, i enjoyed that and now poor Maya is walking around with little reason for being there. When i found out it was going the full sitcom root i was crushed, hate all that rubbish (Guys With Kids, Whitney etc are awful) now Christina has gone and its not even worth bothering with.
I miss Samantha Who?

I just want Maya Rudolph to get the star vehicle TV show that she has deserved for the last 10 years.
If not, I want a Applegate-Rudolph buddy comedy film. Call Megan Ellison, Paul Thomas Anderson! Let's make this happen!

So the entire cast has left the show and NBC still hasnt made an announcement about the shows fate?

Will and Christina's characters are gong to die and then Maya will raise the baby.

Maybe Maya will kill them, kidnap the baby and run to Mexico.

Up All Night (2013) Maya Rudolph plays Maya Nelson, a successful former daytime talk show host struggling with the administrative tasks required to keep her new cable network ("MayaN") afloat. With her ever-present ditzy assistant KayKay (Kristin Chenoweth) by her side, Maya works hard to keep it together while hosting an over-night call-in show. You'll be asking yourself, "How does she do it?" The short answer: KayKay's a space alien with the power to help Maya by manipulating events through quantum physics.

I would totally watch that as long as they bring Missy back.

And people wonder how NBC can keep SMASH on much longer with its ratings... Why even bother retooling a show, without its star, that never had any following to start with?
Greenblatt was great when he worked on shows at HBO and helped run Showtime, but has shown he really can't work within the confines of the current (awful) network tv system

And people thought Community's level of meta was confusing.
Some of those pitches are straight up bananas.

Right? I can't decide which secretion is weirdest. And I kind of hope NBC says eff you and orders more episodes, just to see how much father this could go.
I suggest that the baby playing Amy actually play the fetus growing inside Maya Rudolph. Maybe it's single-cam in the womb, but three came outside the birth canal. Melissa Etheridge can play Ava/Maya's gynecologist.

Wow. So NBC re-conceives it as a more traditional, three-camera sitcom, presumably because it was too high concept. And then people pitch *much* more high concept versions? Meta show within a show versions of a show nobody watched or had any affection for anyway?

If it ever comes back on I am SO staying home that night. And if it goes in the direction of sad serial monogamist Melissa Etheridge, well, there isn't a popcorn bowl big enough.

Phyllis, thanks so much for that write-up! I had no idea how crazy they were gonna make it. Love it.
