Variety had the trailer yesterday and the first thing that crossed my mind when i watched it, was where are the German accents!
Cruise was like a preppy american school kid, at one point it looked like he was about to say "Whatever".
Has the release of this been brought forward again, earlier this year Variety was reporting that the film would now not be released to FEB 09, but the end of the trailer say summers 08.
Cruise can't do German accents.Just look at what he tried to do with "Far And Away". So, if Tom can't/won't do accents no one else can. No one dares upstage Tom Cruise.
Why do the British actors have British accents? Looks like a convoluted mess to me. A "VERY IMPORTANT" mess.
Oh dear. I want less Tom Cruise, more of this kind of Valkyrie.

Sueleen, if the American actors can have American accents, why can't the British ones use their own accents too? Either go for the right accent or don't go for any.
After DOWNFALL, nothing will come close.

Doesn't look particularly interesting. Watching little Tom Cruise try to hold his own opposite Terence Stamp, Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy and Armin Mueller-Stahl might provide some laughs.
The trailer kind of undercuts the seriousness of the movie, doesn't it? There's all that portentous music and the oath to Hitler, and then the credit "From The Director of X-MEN, SUPERMAN RETURNS and THE USUAL SUSPECTS." Well, at least we can't say we weren't warned.
I'll wait for cable.
Mrs. Mangel, I love that drawing.
Where did you find it?
I think the trailer looks very interesting and I'd like to see the film. However, after all we've been subjected to re Tom Cruise, it's hard to take him seriously. Even in a movie role.
He's so over.
yawn
vmlinne, it is inconsistent. If they are all playing Germans (which I believe is the case) they should all sound the same. To have Tommy using his American accent and everyone else using their British accents it sets him apart and makes no sense.
Theoretically, they are ALL speaking German, their native tongue, so there really shouldn't be any accents at all, in my opinion. Unless it is a plot twist ("Ha! I alvayz knew zere vas sometink wronk vit zat guy! He alvayz sounded odd!")

Then surely your question should be why Cruise has an American accent instead of a British one. I understand what you mean about there being no accents. I suppose it's a bit like the English accents in les Mis (well, that was quite inconsistent in the NY production, but you know what I mean).
The British accents would probably be the closest thing to no accents in the English language. BBC English, if you will.
I agree, but I think the British actors are more capable of doing an American accent than Tommy is of doing a British accent, if you know what I mean. In other words, why is Tom Cruise even in this cast?
(And Downfall is an amazing film)

Downfall is truly brilliant, definitely one of my all-time favourites.
Exactly. Films cannot be governed by one man's complete incapability to do an accent.
They could do a Kingdom of Heaven style stunt where they have a big name to draw in crowds, then kill him off as early as possible so the proper drama can begin. (I'm not saying Orlando Bloom is anywhere near a similar case to Tom Cruise, I'm just saying they killed him off very early on).
Jane-just do a google image search on Arthur Rackham & Wagner and you will find dozens.
Wasn't this movie shelved like 5 times...or at least delayed?
Looks awful.
is Jamie Parker still in this?
He's the only thing that would get me to see this in theaters...

"Hey folks, Harry here -- Just got off the phone with an official at MGM that called to let me know that VALKYRIE - which was once set for release on October 3rd, then moved to President's Day in February - well... it has again been moved. Due to the strength of their recent test screenings, they seem to feel the film is strong enough to play in the Holiday season. I'm hoping that MGM is going to push VALKYRIE as a possible Awards Film - by releasing it on December 26th of this year! That's right - KWANZAA is going to have some Hitler assassinating awesomeness!"
They are hoping Tom will be up for awards for his performance.
Early word of mouth is excellent. They think they might have a chance.
"It’s a pretty incredible story, and even though the concentration camps aren't a part of the movie, you think about it in almost every scene- the knowledge of what these monsters did.
That's Valkyrie. Everyone clapped, and we were all pretty floored. I think Bryan Singer did a bang-up job making an intense, well-written and acted flick. One other thing I wanted to mention was the accurate use of German Luftwaffe aircraft of the period, which was very cool. I'll probably see it again once it comes out, and hopefully it will be trimmed down a little, but it’s worth seeing."

The new and final trailer. Looks pretty good to me.
