I was about to ask how many episodes there were going to be. Maybe that explains the difference in exposition - the first time they only had the mini-series, and the series came after.

I too was really hoping for a BSG-type re-imagining, and while not there yet, there is still potential.

They took the original "idea" and completely reworked it, plus made it relevant - the show addressed what we were going through in the post-9/11 world. It wasn't simply a re-hash of the old series.

There were clever moments in last night's V - terrorism, health care (that one pissed my boyfriend off), and clever pop-culture references - but it still wasn't as completely reimagined as I had hoped. But there's still hope.

As much as I loved the original miniseries and remember it being an "event" at home, watching it now makes me realize how campy it was as well. Though not nearly as awful as the series.

It isn't a good show until one side of politics throws a hissy fit.

Honestly, I can see where someone would get that the Vs represent democrats. I wouldn't doubt someone created it with that in mind but more in terms of, "This is how the far right sees us."

Resistance: "Posing as humans they established themselves in all walks of life. Business, government, religion, the military. It took years and once embedded among us, caused worldwide instability, unnecessary wars, economic meltdown, faith twisted into extremism."

Cut to Anna: "If you could speak to the protesters, what would you say?" "That embracing change is never easy, but the reward for doing so can be far greater than you can imagine. Tonight we're announcing the expansion of our healing centers. The goal is to open one in every major city across the world."

Resistance: "The final stage of the visitors plan began with them revealing themselves to us. They gain trust with the promise of friendship and technology and of course all they are really doing is positioning themselves as the saviors of mankind."

Anna: "The intent goes beyond just healing. We want to provide complete medical services to all." "You're talking about universal health care?" "I believe that's what you call it. Yes."

Resistance: "By the time people figure this out, it will be too late. They'll take over unless we can stop them."

Honestly, I don't see a lot of ways to interpret that. The intent might be in question, but not the message. There are issues of loss of religion, military infiltration, and basic socialism... everything the extreme right is afraid of.

(And yes, I just transcribed that scene. I got curious about what was being said and have too much time on my hands. lol)

It will def be interesting to see how the topical allusions pan out. But, yeah, sci-fi likes to do that. That was another great aspect of BG. One example: the humans were polytheistic while the Cylons were monotheistic. That certainly played out some interesting moral questions.

I have been watching my dvd's of the original television series today. I have to say that I didn't remember it being this terrible. It's really camptastic. It's good for a few laughs.

I would say that the pacing was a bit slower than last weeks episode but since the cat is out of the bag now I think they can afford to slow things down a bit. Overall, I found it to be pretty good.

I thought they sprung the human torture a little fast. They should have alluded to it first.
