Good point. I guess what I meant is that some people seemed okay with them coming at first, but I know that will change.

I like a lot of the new choices. It's very refreshing to see this story told in a more realistic world--watching the original series in a post 9/11 mindset is very trying.

But, I hated how rushed it was and how badly some of the details were revealed. Hopefully the rest of the season will find its pacing. They need to find the depth that Battlestar Galactica had. It should be just as good a drama as anything else on TV--not syrupy and thin.

I do wish that it had at least a 2 hour premiere but somehow I don't think that was up to the creatives. I think the powers that be at the network decide running time.

I dunno about the rushedness. I guess, I see the point, but I look at it this way - anyone who was a fan of the original is going to want to know right away if they are still reptilian under their human guises, so that's something that had to be addressed. Everyone watching it knows that the visitors are up to something nefarious, so to dance around that in the sake of not going to fast doesn't wash with me. And personally, I appreciated the sh*t ton of information thrown at me; it was a refershing pace from shows that are soooooo plotted out that you can go weeks without any major revelations in character, story arc, etc.

I thought some of the exposition was a little forced, but I think that's something that's unavoidable. There was only one really clunky, if I remember, and it has something to do with Erica's ex-husband.

It needed to be self-contained--not rely on who saw the original or the ads. However, I agree that a too slow pacing would have been agonizing.

I just think the reveal that they are lizards could have been handled dramatically. Not in a monologue at the meeting. I want suspense!

But it was the pilot and they had to condense so much into less than an hour.

It's not impossible to make it self-contained--you tell the story.

I'm not gonna put on a production of Hamlet and cut down important details because I imagine most everyone has seen or read Hamlet.

The reason why they couldn't get away with a Lost-style pacing is because a good chunk of the audience knows the story. That part is what makes it different from telling the story back in the 80s when no one knew what the secrets were.

So, I agree it takes a different hand, but the hand needs to be steady, not shaky.

I was thinking earlier that it really should have been a two hour premiere. To go from ships landing to lizards in 40 minutes was rushed. I am worried that only those of us who know the original can appreciate it so far.

Didn't we find out they were lizards in the first hour the original? Or was it the second? Granted that was a two hour show, but it still doesn't bother me.

I think - especially with the whole sort of crisis of faith and people like for a savior kind of thing - the desperation of the human race (at least as portrayed in this series) makes that it moved a little fast more acceptable. I dunno.

Plus the episode took place over the course of a month.

To be fair, I don't think we even saw John or Diana in the first hour--let alone the scene when Singer rips off the soldier's face.

That was a change I liked--we saw that they were human and friendly immediately. They saved some time effectively.

I liked that it got right to the point. Not a lot of what people were doing BEFORE the Visitors arrived.

Agreed. We didn't need all that unless it was really well written and essential information. What worked is that their lives kept going on after the Visitors arrived, giving us the exposition we needed about these people.

I would bet that that's exactly what happened. It was supposed to air originally at the beginning of the season and then they decided it would be a late season replacement. They did some tweaking. I kind of wish they had waited.

I don't understand how post-Lost and in this DVD box set world, they (ABC) think it's worth half assing. Do it right. Build it right and they will come.

But then again, maybe there have been just enough SciFi flops to be concerned. Battlestar Galactica was arguably one of the best dramas this past decade and had barely any love from audience or Emmys.

I am hoping that we get to see a fully exposed alien without the human disguise.

I am certain that at some point with the Ryan (Morris Chestnut) and Valerie (Lourdes Benedicto) alien in love with a human story that there will be a baby storyline.

Bless you for remembering people's names. It takes me WEEKS to keep character names straight.

If there is a half-breed baby, I hope they take a page from Kenneth Johnson's novel. Instead of looking mostly human and having weird powers (and then the poor little dead green lizard baby), the children of both worlds exhibited characteristics of both of their parents. Skin turning to scales, some with human eyes, some with alien eyes.

If the visitors have been among us for years, if pregnancy is possible, it probably would have happened by now. That's the logical answer, but they may not go with that. I am wondering if it's going to be more about the teens producing a kid. There HAS to be a baby!!

i loved the pilot... found it to be far superior to FlashForward (which I think is a good show)... but V is just better... for the time being

There are only going to be 13 episodes this season.

It worries me that we're only going to get 4 episodes this month and then not see it again until March.

If the numbers stay strong then perhaps they'll keep it going instead of breaking it up.
