You guys get so wound up about gay rights equality, and yet its okay to make these snide little remarks to someone with dyslexia

Oh, for crap's sake.

What? Don't like it when someone turns the tables? Bullying is bullying, no matter what.

I see no tables being turned. Does that mean something different in England?

Well, since I don't live in England, I wouldn't know.

Are you 4 years old?

Oh, and by the way, nice change of subject. Please, answer my question: why is it not okay to make snide comments about someone being gay, but it is okay to make snide comments about someone being dyslexic?

At this point, what IS the subject?

A) Being gay and being dyslexic are being equated by you to make some straw man point that isn't quite clear

B) No one is making fun of his dyslexia.

Phyllis give it a rest now. Westend is right, it is bullying plain and simple. Luckily things about my dyslexia etc dont bother me, i more feel sorry for the idiots who seem to enjoy pulling somebody apart for it, the fact that that is what some people have to resort to shows how little respect and understanding they have for people who struggle with some things.

Even if i hated somebody on here (the only person i dislike is Namo) and i knew that they had dyslexia or they were disabled etc i would never use that against them, no matter how much they attack me.

If you don't have dyslexia you have no idea what a frustrating struggle it can be. I can have a good IQ but struggle on something so basic that i can do very little about. It's not something to mocked, its something that should be helped or understood.

Im sure you have flaws or things about yourself that you are unhappy about, you would not like them to be ridiculed on here.

For example you could be shocking looking, a loner, have no life etc but people on here can't see that about you, unfortunatly with this being a message board my flaw is there for all to see where other peoples flaws can be hidden from behind their PC

"B) No one is making fun of his dyslexia. "

are you kidding?
Both you and especially Namo know because ive told you before that im dyslexic and still you contine to make snide remarks

"i hope you dont write the press releases"

Don't do something and then not have the balls to admit you are doing it just to try and win an argumnet with someone who is right.

Well, I am sorry if you think you are being mocked for your dyslexia, but that's really just not the case. And if it WAS so upsetting to you, wouldn't you take the extra effort to run your stuff through a spellchecker or whatever?

But to WestEnd's point, I'm sorry that the civil rights of dyslexics are being infringed upon. I think you should have the same rights as non-dyslexic people and I hope one day you afforded full equality under the law.

But you weren't right.

And I'll take you at your word you've mentioned the dyslexia before, and that I must have just missed it or ignored it.

I just said that it does not get to me, after dealing with it since i was kid i fail to allow people who i don't know or really care about get me down about it.

As for the spellchecker
The damn thing wont work on this browser haha

I have a colleague who has impaired vision. If any of us send her an e-mail we have to increase the font size to one that she is comfortable with: she doesn't have to reformat it herself.

That is part of being a tolerant, considerate and adaptable society.

So, we should spellcheck for other people then? Then what's the problem? That's what I was doing.

Really? I mean - and this is sort of dyslexia aside - when you are communicating in a medium that's only the written word, isn't it kind of important to be able to make your points as clearly and cogently as possible?

WestEnd2

"i hope you dont write the press releases"

That's exactly the comment I was talking about too Phyllis. Are you saying then Phyillis, that someone with dyslexia should not have a job that involves writing something? So a dyslexic shouldn't be an author? Shouldn't be in marketing? Shouldn't write anything ever?

Is that what I should go in and say to my group of dyslexic students tomorrow? That they shouldn't hope to be writers in any way? That they should find a job without writing, because heaven forbid a dyslexic should write something?

How is that not discrimination and bullying Phyllis? Read the comment. Surely you must see how that reads. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just trying to make you see how that sounds, and to see what has angered me.

"But to WestEnd's point, I'm sorry that the civil rights of dyslexics are being infringed upon. I think you should have the same rights as non-dyslexic people and I hope one day you afforded full equality under the law."

Well, nice avoidance. I wasn't talking about the law was I? Did I say 'law' anywhere? I was talking about people's perceptions. Your perceptions to be more accurate Phyillis. Yours and Namo's. It doesn't matter if there is a law about it or not, bullying is wrong.

And I'll take you at your word you've mentioned the dyslexia before, and that I must have just missed it or ignored it.

And please, even if he hadn't have mentioned his dyslexia before (and he has, since Namo brings it up every time they clash), Scripps says it right.

"That is part of being a tolerant, considerate and adaptable society."

Thank you Scripps.

Why can't you give him the benefit of the doubt? Why is your instant thought "OMG this moron can't spell, lets poke fun' why isn't it 'maybe he is dyslexic'? Or 'maybe English isn't his first language'? (we know it is, but if you didn't already know that). I think that says an awful lot about you. Attack first, don't give a damn about anything else.

I'm not just jumping in to defend songanddanceman, we don't even know each other, have barely said 4 words to each other before this. I'm just saying, as someone who works with dyslexics, some of what has been said here has been way over the line, even if songanddanceman says it's water's off a duck's back to him. It shouldn't have to be.

Well 1st of all you repond to everything so you understand.
and 2nd, what should i do for you huh? should i just not post on here because of my grammer or spelling, maybe i should not write plays either, or maye i should just lock myself away?

Would that be better, would that make your life easier that you don't have to try and understand my posts?

Ignorance is not attractive you know.

Yes, you should tell your students that they shouldn't be writers. That's exactly what you should tell them.

And please don't call my twisting of your bizarro injection an avoidance. Especially since it was YOU who used the words "gay rights equality." Rights and equality don't have to do with perception. They have to do with law. As a teacher, you'd think you'd understand the importance of choosing your words properly, and making sure your point is understood.

The rest is all just too long and convoluted to try and make any sense.

I can't believe that anyone could post this.

"The rest is all just too long and convoluted to try and make any sense."

It all makes perfect sense to me.
