It reads like an Onion story but no:

Following Monday's report in BuzzFeed that Rand Paul, the Jonah Lehrer of senators, plagiarized part of his September 20 article in The Washington Times, the conservative paper has ended the Kentucky Senator's weekly column, which he's written since the summer.

“We expect our columnists to submit original work and to properly attribute material, and we appreciate that the senator and his staff have taken responsibility for an oversight in one column,” Times Editor John Solomon said.

BuzzFeed's Andrew Kaczynski reported on Monday that Paul cribbed a significant portion of his September 20 column from an article written by Dan Stewart in The Week. Paul lifted paragraphs and sentences, nearly word-for-word, from Stewart's article without any attribution.

Incidentally, don't expect this to end his presidential aspirations. His popularity with Tea Party voters is expected to INCREASE as they see plagiarism as no big deal and ANY attack on Rand in the Media boosts his poll numbers.

My favorite quote from this whole debacle is when he blamed the "footnote police".

I have been enjoying his "rabid offense is the best defense" strategy--angrily blaming the "haters" for his woes. I always thought that folks like Rand Paul were big on "personal responsibility", no? Apparently, though, this situation is not HIS fault, but the fault of the people who called him out for his behavior.

Also--on the theme of Personal Responsibility--have you noticed that he rarely uses the personal pronoun "I" when discussing this situation? It is always "we". While he may have a Monarchist delusion, I think the idea is to suggest, oh so subtly, that the fault lies with his "team":

“What we are going to do from here forward, if it will make people leave me the hell alone, is we’re going to do them like college papers.”

It takes a village, apparently, to be Rand Paul.

My favorite part was when he, instead of confirming or denying plagiarizing anything, talks about how he wishes dueling was legal.

OTHER PEOPLE need to take personal responsibility. WE did nothing wrong, only failed to footnote correctly, which is something only eggheads and liberal college professors care about. It is typical that the lame stream media would attack us.

See I COULD be a Republican.

It's a shame the PC police have to stifle his plagiaristic innovation with all their rules and regulations.

Rand Paul must reeeeeeeally hate Rachel Maddow right about now. I bet he has a little lesbian voodoo doll he's using.

He really does have a LOT in common with shoethorn, who has repeatedly given Maddow male names when posting about her. And who also plagiarizes.

Steve Benen of the Rachel Maddow show weighs in:

"Paul presented others’ work as his own, on a wide variety of occasions, and in several types of media (speeches, op-eds, and books). He’s “annoyed,” not with himself for his persistent wrongdoing, but with those who pointed out his mistakes. Since he didn’t “intend” to plagiarize, Paul considers recent criticism unfounded.

What’s more, the senator said of journalists, “I’m being criticized for not having proper attribution, and yet they are able to write stuff that if I were their journalism teacher in college, I would fail them.”

It’s not clear who or what he’s referring to. Paul, who was a self-accredited ophthalmologist before getting elected to the Senate, has no background in journalism, and hasn’t pointed to any flaws in the reports that have highlighted instances in which he presented others’ work as his own.

Rather, it seems as if the senator is simply irritated by accurate reports about his own mistakes. Self-reflection can be difficult and awkward, and it appears Paul finds it easier to lash out at those who presented inconvenient truths about his record to the public."

He is always getting defensive about some nonsense. It bodes well for a full implosion during primary season.

This primary season is going to be awesome! Imagine a debate between Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin! Fun fun fun!

What's next? Ranting about Harry Belafonte?

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Yeah, the duel comment was absurd.

Though I wouldn't mind watching Rachel Maddow beat the sh*t out of him in a boxing ring.

And this is exactly why Christie will never get past the Republican primary. He'll appear to sane and "liberal" when put up against these shmucks.

It's all Fun and Games until Karl Rove figures out how to out-maneuver Anonymous and we end up with President Bachmann.
