KMF: that sounds super rich--the sweet potato sh!t I mean, and i think it's creme fraiche

Tiff: Kosher turkey IS more expensive, but it has been brined to remove the blood (a salt water bath so to speak) and the results are a much more flavorful and juicy bird.

I'm cooking this year cause the bf's going home to be with family--his grandmother is not doing well, and I'm having some 'mos over. I want to do a stuffed pork loin and some funky sides, but I'm not sure if they'll go for it. I don't want to make a turkey for 4 people, you know?

That sounds delicious, lildogs. It'll be nice for a change of pace, especially with some good sides.

To anyone who wants a rich, delicious dessert, I recommend making Paula Dean's ("just a bit more cream and butter") Gooey Pumpkin Cake. Recipe can be found on Food Network's site.

They're kind of traditional homos, so I think they'll not be thrilled. I guess I could just do a turkey breast, but that's kinda blah...if I had a big group I'd do something completely over the top, as is my wont.

Paula reminds me of all the church ladies I grew up with; pimiento cheese, crab dip, smothered steaks...oy

I often have two Thanksgiving's, as much of my family is Canadian. For this one, though we go traditional, all the way. Turkey (my mom uses vegetables as the rack, so you get some of that flavor in it, too), a really good stuffing with cornbread, apples, cranberries, and walnuts. We do mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes (not yams), cranberries, green beans (usually green bean casserole), and most of the time we have carrots or some other vegetable as well. We've had up to eight different kinds of pie at once, too. It seems like I'm forgetting something, but I can't think what. I guess I'll find out next week!

Normally turkey with the works. My mother in law wants Chinese ( go figure ) so since we have no one to cook for Chinese it is. Next year, come hell or high water, it is turkey

It's always very traditional at my house (my mother goes all Italian on Christmas Eve with the seafood and sh*t).

But I've recently become completely enthralled with Turducken. Has anyone had this remarkable dish which has a chicken cooked inside a duck cooked inside a turkey? The mind reels!!

I do not know why so many people get disgusted by this, as everyone in my family fights for it.....BUT,
my mother makes this hor d'oeuvre, which is equal parts of cream cheese and blue cheese mixed together, and served in small cut celery stalks.
My ex-partner, and my current partner find them disgusting, but my sister and I, even now still fight for the last one......

We have the traditional, nothing too snazzy. Turkey, mashed potatos, sweet potatos, corn, dinner rolls, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, apple pie, cherry pie, gravy (although I despise it), cranberry mold, jello, and stuffing. Pretty uneventful foodwise.

I going to my aunt's in western North Carolina, so, whatever she's serving is what I'm having. This will be my 5th Thanksgiving in the U.S., and my 4th at my aunt's and uncle's. They serve traditional fare, from what I can gather. She's a very good cook, and bakes all her pies from scratch. Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday. I just love it.

And enjoy the beauty - all the joy and beauty - that a Merry Christmas can bring to you!
