Gin & Tonic in the summer, Martini the rest of the year.
Kad, you have excellent taste in gin. Hendricks is my choice for a G&T, although Martin Miller's is terrific too. And I've just tried a Dutch gin called Nolet's that's sensational.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Favorite cocktail is a Ketel 1 or Belvidere Dirty Martini, extra dirty with two bleu cheese stuffed olives. I love the mixture of ice cold vodka with savory. Gin and tonic is a summertime staple. I've switched to a great Philly made gin, Bluecoat. It's better than Hendricks, IMO. I love a good Merlot or Shiraz in the Fall.

I tend to go between 3 things liquour-wise depending on my mood, (or my wallet).
A Hendricks Martini
Gin Gimlet
or a vodka or Gin and soda. (never tonic) - the extra calories aren't worth the taste.

I love Hendricks and wish the bar I usually frequent had it.
I bought myself a bottle of it for my 21st birthday and saved it after it was empty. It's on my dresser (next to the rather stylish bottle of Tanqueray 10, which is the smoothest gin I have ever had).
Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever tried a cocktail called an aviation? It's gin, creme de violette, lemon juice, and maraschino liqueur. I've never had it but am extremely curious. But apparently creme de violette is hard to come by.

The Aviation sounds wonderful, Kad. I've never had it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the mixology bars around NYC would be able to make it.

That explains it. I notice that one of the liquor stores in my parents' town (just across the bridge in NJ) carries it. I'll pick up a bottle when I'm there.

Ketel One. Rocks. With a lime.
It took me years to build up to this drink. I was mostly a girl-drink drunk for my formative drinking years. But I wanted desperately to move to something that I thought was manly. Something that sounded impressive (staight...no mixers). Something that gave me the illusion of being sophisticated as well as strong. Beer always seemed too common for me. Scotch was just too old (though I enjoy it at times in the winter). And bourbon just seemed too...well...let's say 'unsophisticated'. A top-shelf vodka on the rocks with just a lime seemed to fit with the identity I wanted for myself. And there you have it.
I have, of late, started exploring the world of cucumber infused cocktails. A year ago or so, I bartended an event where the donated vodka was a selection of Crop organic vodkas. One of the flavors was cucumber, and my friend discovered a recipe that was simply cucumber vodka, tonic and a lime. I thought it was outstanding and it turned out to be the most popular beverage I poured all day. Just this weekend, I had a cucumber gin gimlet, which was utterly delicious. Why am I so into the cucumber thing? Cause it's totally on trend right now, and I like to get ahead of (or be just on) the curve.

I'm more into savory drinks and I do enjoy a simple scotch and soda on the rocks. But my favorite is a Michelata. I first tried it at a Brazilian restaurant a couple of years ago and I was hooked. Basically, a Bloody Mary on the rocks with a dash of lime juice, but substituting beer for vodka. Sounds weird, but it's yummy and very refreshing in the summer.

White wine (c****nay, pinot grigio or chenin blanc) in the warm months.
Red wine (pinot noir, malbec, cabernet sauvingon) in the colder months.
Champagne for special occasions.
Been drinking them all FOREVER!
Not much of a mixed drinker, but recently went to Peru where I very much enjoyed Pisco Sours (which apparently is the national drink of Peru).

That drink sounds perfect, MM ... and the fact that it's Brazilian, even more so. I've been making a beer margarita this summer. Light and delish!

Pisco Sours are delicious. There's a cool little Peruvian bar/restaurant--the name escapes me--on 44th and 10th that specializes in them.

Cucumber is a really great flavor for liquor.
Have any of you been to the Stanton Social, on Stanton and Ludlow? They have fantastic cocktails. A bit pricy, at $13 each, but they're strong and delicious. There's one called a Brooklyn Lemonade- Brooklyn Gin, ginger beer, lemon juice, muddled cucumber.

I don't get around much and don't know a lot of fancy drinks, but I like Jack and Coke on occasion. Can't say why other than I just like the taste.

I don't drink much liquor. But I do love margaritas. Like Reg, I drink more red wine in the winter than I do in the summer. Mostly I drink pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc.

Kad- Stanton Social, aside from being one of my favorite overpriced restaurants in NYC, has amazing cocktails! They have an awesome dessert cocktail. Ok, now I need to go back and get some French Onion Soup Dumplings....

I have to agree--the French Onion Soup dumplings at Stanton Social are out of this world.
Another favorite cocktail place for me is Rye House on West 17th (probably because I'm a big fan of rye). The cocktails are pricey ($12-15 range) but the food is surprisingly cheap and delicious.

Wexy good point about the vodka/cranberry. If I drink mixed drinks that's what I drink unless I'm drinking margaritas.
