Schindler's List
^^ couldn't talk for an hour after seeing it...
Christmas Shoes
^^ made me an emotional mess.
Both amazing movies though, and there was this other one I saw in school, the 'school approved' version of Schindler's List. The name won't come to me though.

Boys Don't Cry
The Sea Inside
Dancer In The Dark
For entirely different reasons:

Schindler's List is at the top of mine...the cast of our tour of Sunday in the Park saw it together and we all walked back to our hotels in a state of shock - I remember it was very eerie - not a word was spoken for a couple hours afterward...
I am kind of that way about The Village, also - it touches me very deeply.

Posted: 2/23/05 at 10:18amI saw a movie yesterday and thought of this thread afterwards. I saw Sigourney Weaver's new film, IMAGINARY HEROES and it really left me speechless. That woman is amazing at everything she does and how can you go wrong with William Hurt?

It's funny you mention "Imaginary Heroes". I saw this film '04 and I nominated Weaver for Best Actress on my website. I wonder if she's eligible for this year's awards...

I've heard horror stories about "Audition". Does it live up to the hype?

The movie was released here in NYC for one week in December making it eligable for Awards, however it wasn't nominated for any.
I'm glad you liked it! The last 10 minutes of that film just took my breath away. But that movie does show that Weaver is one of the greatest actresses we have working today.

"Audition" is at my local video store, but I'm too scared to rent it. I can't handle needles and such. Maybe, in a couple weeks, I'll have weighed the pros and cons enough to just rent it.

Posted: 2/23/05 at 1:06pmIf needles freak you out, then there are NO pros to Audition. None.

Speechless (as in awe):
Angels In America
Speechless (as in sobbing):
Billy Elliot
Ordinary People
Speechless (as in I never knew someone could be so talented):
City Lights (Charles Chaplin)
To paraphrase a dear chum after he saw City Lights, "I was devastated."

oh, AndyHardy, I was speechless as in sobbing for Billy Elliot and Ordinary People, also. You and I had better not watch those movies together...
Especially not on 'gay' movie night... (wink, wink)

Beav - I have NO objectivity with Ordinary People. I was newly on my own when it came out, and feeling the rush of finally being away from an oppressively conservative home, coming out and yet STILL feeling homesick. The story of a family's collapse and a young man coming to terms with his existence WRECKED me. I saw it 12 times the first week it came out, and then more after that. I don't think I've seen it since that first release, even though I own the tape. I bet I still know every frame of it, though

Posted: 2/23/05 at 2:22pmI remember watching Billy Elliot with my mother. I had already seen it so thought I would be fine. My mother is hard as nails and doesn't cry at anything. When it got to the scene with Billy and the letter from his mother, I was weeping, but doing it silently so as not to alert my mother to it. Crying silently when you're crying that hard is no easy task.

Whatcha doin on Friday, AH?
LOL...
DG, I had a very strong reaction to the movie as well, but for different reasons. And have not been able to watch it since a certain event took place in my life. I tried once, but the reaction to the grief was too raw, so I had to stop. Maybe one of these days I'll venture back to it.

Addy...On Friday? Hopefully getting winked at some more!! (AndyHardy says smirking...)
Ordinary People was one of those emotional storms that should only happen once in a person's lifetime. I was a young closeted teen sitting in the theater with my grandmother and I was crying uncontrollably. I don't even think I new why.
I haven't seen the film in a very, very long time.
