TITANIC. Do I have to explain why?
Unles the ending of TITANIC is everyone's favorite, I would think you do have to explain why. Why is the ending your favorite? Is it the old lady throwing that necklace in the water? Is that how it ends? I don't remember.
it's already been explained. after the old rose dies, her young self and jack are reunited on the grand staircase, surrounded by all the other passengers, even the ones who died ... it is indeed a very beautiful scene.

Yup, definitely Color Purple!
We could argue now if Old Rose actually dies at the end of the movie...
I'm sure many disagree.
Okay, I remember it now. Thanks. Guess it didn't leave that much of an impression of me.

whether old rose dies or not ... it's still a powerful scene ... especially with the james horner music
you should watch it again jb!
Maybe I will, one of these days. I hated the score, by the way. Just hated it; but I did like the film, overall. I wasn't that engrossed by its love story; but once it hit the iceberg, it was extremely compelling.
smaltzy love story or not, you gotta love a movie that recreates the titanic as wonderfully as they did.
1) Mr. Holland's Opus - gets me EVERY time.
2) Angels in America - beginning with Harper's monologue in the plane through the end.
3) Dead Poets Society - from Wikipedia:
"The film concludes with the boys, led by the previously very timid Todd Anderson, standing on their desks — in front of Mr. Nolan, in open defiance — calling to Mr. Keating, "O Captain! My Captain!" to show him that his messages have been understood and appreciated. With tears in his eyes, Keating says "Thank you, boys. Thank you," and the film ends on a high, but uncertain note, with the viewer wondering what would become of Keating and the boys who supported him."
A walk to remember
Now and then
NOW AND THEN was shot in statesboro, georgia, where i used to live. just thought i'd share.
I forgot about Dead Poetets society M J R! An amazing movie, the end made me cry so hard. Also made me want to become a teacher
I just loved the end of Notting Hill. So rarely do movies show the future and wrap things up so nicely. Seeing her with her head in his lap and him rubbing her pregnant belly. It was just so adorable.
The final moment of Queen Christina with the camera moving in on the face of Greta Garbo.
The end of The Trip to Bountiful where Geraldine Pages looks up and says 'Goodbye Bountiful, Goodbye."
and
The Silence of the Lambs -- "I'm having an old friend for dinner!"
the list goes on and on.
This is an easy one!
THE END
I don't know that I have a favorite (too many to choose from!), but, has anyone mentioned:
The Graduate
Yep. It's been mentioned.
And, apparently, I've already gone on record as having claimed "It's A Wonderful Life" as my favorite!
(I love when old threads are revived)
'beautiful thing' when the two boys are dancing on the rooftop and everyone crowds around them in amazement and approval(?)
Moonstruck. All the "family" around the table. Loretta and Ronnie in love. The camera pulls away to through the house and to the mantle with the baby pictures of Cher on it...lol. Not my favorite, but I loved that movie.
tequila sunrise
"yeah, they're porbably talking about me right now."
My favorite ending is the original 'Planet of the Apes' when Heston is riding along the beach and comes across a half-buried Statue of Liberty.
"Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico?" from Little Cesear
"Top of the World, Ma" from White Heat.
"senator and mrs. blutarsky."
