That just makes you so happy and touched that you just HAVE to cry when you listen to it??? And this is ANY song, not just musical theatre
For me it's...
-Send in the Clowns
(I did an arrangement that I have a recording of with my jazz choir last year, and this arrangement is one of the prettiest things I've ever heard. The melody and lyrics and all that are AMAZING! *sigh* sondheim....)
-For Now
(This song just has such real lyrics and cool harmonies I love it)
-For Good
(This doesn't do as much to me as it used to because I've heard it so much, but I still love it)
SO YA!!!! TELL AWAY!
Run, Freedom, Run- Urinetown
All the songs in Thoroughly Modern Millie
i'd have to say "for good"
we did it at our last concert for my show choir. i could barely get through my solo. i ended up crying through the end of the song.
So this is totally weird...but "The Thirteenth of April" from Loving Repeating, which way too few people know about.

I have four ... "Somewhere" from "West Side Story," "Moon River" from "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Romeo and Juliet" by the 80s rock band Dire Straits and "Levon" by Elton John. I guess "Somewhere" really has to win. I just tried and I can't even sing the first phrase without tearing up. If there were ever a perfect melody, that would have to be it.

"Headlights" by Dispatch. That song is gorgeous. There are probably others, but I can't think of them now.
"The Fire Within Me" and "Somethings are Meant to Be" from Little Women. Really all of Little Women makes me cry.
Also, the first time I saw Wicked in LA the very end of "Defying Gravity" made me cry. Not because the song is a tear jerker, but because the technical aspect of the show was SO beautiful. It was one of those moments where I was like, "I have to do this for the rest of my life."
The finale for In the Heights. Ok, it doesn't make me cry (I rarely cry) but it give me chills and it makes me want to stand up and sing 'I'M HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!'
The only song ever that has made me cry was Everything I Know from ITH, but it doesn't make me happy.
The choral arrangement of "For Good"-I did this in high school with ballad All State Show Choir, and it just fit the moment incredibly well.
"Move On" from Sunday In The Park With George. I still think the original version with Mandy and Bernadette is the best, but I still tear up a bit when I hear Bernadette's solo rendition or the new revival cast with Jenna and Daniel.
"Deathbed" by Relient K. The epic tale of a life, put to music. Gets me every time.

i was totally gonna say deathbed too. so touching. somebody should make a play out of that song. relient k is my fav band ever. and though it doesn't make me cry or emotional or anything, there's just something about "touch me" from spring awakening that does it for me.
"Kiss the Air" from Dreaming Wide Awake. For sure. Oh and the entire recording of The Drowsy Chaperone.
Absolutely everything from Ragtime. I have not been able to listen to that recording once without tearing up or getting the chills.
Pretty much everything from Ragtime for me too. Especially "Your Daddy's Son"
It's a toss-up for me between two songs from Company. "Being Alive" or "Someone is Waiting"... both beautiful, and I relate. Sadly enough... ha ha...
Everything I Know - In the Heights
I Miss the Mountains - Next to Normal
I Will Never Leave You - Side Show
recently..
This Is The Hour and I'd give my life for you from Miss Saigon. And basically anything from Miss Saigon Out of Sight, Out of Mind, and If Dreams Came true from Tale of Two Cities.

Love to Me - The Light in the Piazza
Jason Robert Brown's "Music of Heaven".
It's not so much a sadness but a catharsis/release. Such a gorgeous song.

A Way Back To Then - Title Of Show
Move On - Sunday In The Park With George
These are the songs that make me happy as all get-out:
"One Day More"-- Les Miserables
"Into the Fire"-- Scarlet Pimpernel
"Sirens"-- Jane Eyre
"You Can't Stop The Beat"-- Hairspray
"He Lives In You"-- The Lion King
"Her Voice"-- Little Mermaid (and pretty much anything from that show. I love Norm Lewis as Triton in particular.)
And anything sung by Michael Ball. His voice completely sweeps me off my feet.
I can't say they necessarily make me cry, because the only songs that make me cry are ones that I can't stand namely BECAUSE they make my cry. Like "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story? Ugh, I always cry when I hear that, and if someone starts playing it, I just go into another room.
One day more, on my own, and do you hear the people sing from les mis. i still cry during rents ill cover you reprise and finale b.

"For Now"
It says so much in such a humorous and condensed way.
Sorry, that wasn't very articulate. I am tired.
Right now, ever since I found out it's closing and that I'll be there it's "Part of it All" from [tos]. Okay, anything from [tos], but especially that.
Also:
For Good from Wicked (seriously, who doesn't cry during this?)
A Little More Homework from 13
Anything from In The Heights. No joke, this show makes me a wreck.
Twenty Something from Tales From the Bad Years
And always and forever "Every Day a Little Death". My fav showtune of all time.
I know there are more... but I am waaaay too tired to think of them.
Totally forgot "Part of it All" from [tos]. Anything from [tos] now. And a teensy bit of everything from RENT.

I'm going to add what I wrote before.
Nine People's Favorite Thing - [tos]
And quite possibly every song from the musical "Bare." That musical is brilliant beyond words and so gut-wrentching that by the end of the recording I'm sobbing uncontrollably.
