This thread's inspired by the Scariest Movie Thread.
My favorite King book is IT. I've read it several times and enjoy it for so many reasons.
It is without doubt King's masterwork. It's absolutely genius. I also love the uncut version of The Stand.
Loved reading "Misery"...so much better than the movie.
My least favorite King book is IT. My favorite is THE STAND.
Though the movie is in itself brilliant. One of the very few page to screen adaptations of King's work that is a success.
I thought THE LANGOLIERS was creepy.
Secret Window, Secret Garden is much creepier (from the same collection, Four Past Midnight). The movie however, was a godawful travesty.
The scariest one for me was Pet Sematary. The movie obviously stinks but the book made me have nightmares....
I love Stephen King's work... a few of my favorites have to be: Insomnia, The Stand and Green Mile.

I've got to go with IT as well. I love you, Stephen King!
The Stand, hands down
"Apt Pupil". Definitely. It just...got to me in a way no other book has, which says a lot.
No favorite here - but The Stand is pretty much up there.
The Stand is his best (and what I'm currently reading)
It is the scariest
But Bag of Bones is my favorite, maybe it's all the references to Rebecca, one of my favorite books.
Hearts in Atlantis deserves a mention as well and is possibly the worst victim of movie butchering of all.

Oh, I really like the movie of HIA. I think in terms of worst Stephen King movies, Dreamcatcher is number one. Sure, there are other worse ones, but Dreamcatcher was more disappointing total letdown in that it had an amazing cast and a TERRIBLE script! I've never been so bored in my life in a theatre as I was when I saw it. I was so sad for Morgan Freeman.
The Stand! Though Salem's Lot is a close second....
I read all his books. I like his earlier works better. My favorites Salem's Lot, Needful Things, Pet Semetery, and IT are my favorites although they are all well written.
The problem with HIA is the book is a collection of 5 interconnected stories and the movie is only of the first story. Also they removed the entire supernatural element from the story, which in the book is really scary.

I've read all his books except for the Dark Tower series. . . I waited for him to finish the series. . . I waited so long I figured that I'd save the series for as long as I could, and now I finally caved. I just checked out books one and two on friday!
"The Stand". I could not put it down.

The Stand is mind blowing, but long, "It" i couldn't finish (too creeped) and The Langoliers was writing for TV. SO Thinner would be my favorite King book.

Am I the only person who isn't very fond of Stephen King? I tried to read Green Mile but I wasn't impressed.
I've always wanted to read The Shining simply because I love the movie (but that is thanks to Jack Nicholson--NOT Shelley Duval.. now she should have gotten the axe to her head not the other man) but I've never gotten around to it. I don't actually want to cough up $15 for it and it always seems to be missing at the libraries I go to.

Everyone has their own tastes...there are many people that don't appreciate his books.
I would definitely recommend some of his earlier works, The Stand, Pet Semetary, Insomnia, etc. The stuff written more recently (IMVHO)isn't so great.
The Stand by far...I rather like the mini series of it too...
As far as Dreamcatcher, I thought the movie was horrendous, but I actually really enjoyed the book
To be honest, it's hard to choose. He's my favorite author, and I've never disliked any of his novels. The creepiest and most emotional, to me, was "Bag of Bones".
His most underrated books are:
Bag of Bones
From a Buick 8 - Really chilling and complex.
Desperation - Scary, gory stuff!
Dreamcatcher - Fantastic book. God, that movie was awful.

I liked the one he wrote with Peter Straub. 'The Talisman'
which I thought was really cool.
"Pet Semetary" was pretty creepy.
