What's your voice part?

Posted: 7/27/05 at 11:27pmI think some of are forgetting that middle C is actually 1 line below the treble clef and 1 line above the bass clef. It's not on the third space on the treble clef, which from reading some your post, I think your assuming that it is.

From what I know, middle C is the first ledger below the treble clef. High C is the first ledger above the treble clef. Top C? Is an octave above that.
I'm still amazed my voice has that capacity...

well, apparently I SUCK. haha. i guess i'm a bass/baritone.
E below bass clef to about a middle F on a relatively good day, G on a really good day, and can belt out my A on some days..

Posted: 7/28/05 at 2:46amA "High C" is considered the C that is 2 ledger lines above the 5th line. So, it's the E-G-B-D-F- (the lines) then 2 ledger lines is a high C..... I'm a lyric soprano with coloratura notes. I can sing a G above high C, but I'm not sure what my lowest note is. I always sing Sop 1 in choirs but I always love how challenging the Sop 2 part is.

My range is D above low C to the C two octaves above middle C.
I'm a whole-step away from having a 3 octave vocal range. Blah.
I've sung everything from Tenor I to Soprano I. I'd like to say that I'm a soprano, but I prefer to sing mezzo/belt material.

Posted: 10/8/06 at 10:52amI'm an alto/mezzo soprano, but I've never really had any private training. But one of my group instructors said I have a really great potential upper range and might even be a soprano.

I sing high soprano (soprano I) in madrigals, but solo, i'm a lyric soprano with a coloratura range. I can go up to a G above high C (the one 2 octaves above middle C), and my passagio is around G sharp above C. (An octave lower than my highest note).
I have a pretty good lower register though, so now and then, I enjoy the dramatic soprano stuff, and I used to think I had a mezzo base, but now I think it's more of a spinto quality.

Posted: 10/8/06 at 2:26pmI'm a baritone! But I can also sing low bass and tenor 2 if I really choose too lol. My range is an F2-G4 but my lowest note is probably an E and my highest is probably a B flat!

Posted: 10/8/06 at 5:46pmin chorus, we call me a stalto...freshman yaer I was an alto 1, sophomore year a bunch of boys dropped out so I was a tenor, but alto for a few songs, junior year alto 2, senior year, soprano 2. I'm actually a mezzo, but my friends love to make fun of me.

Posted: 10/8/06 at 6:53pmI'm a baritone, My comforable range is about two ocatves. The A Below Treble Clef and the A Two octaves above it.
#39re: What's your voice part?
Posted: 10/8/06 at 8:03pmSoprano 1 or lyric soprano. Whatever you want to call me. I wish I was a coluratura.
#40re: What's your voice part?
Posted: 10/8/06 at 8:10pmcoloratura isn't exclusive to that tip-top register. Una Voce Poce Fa for example is a coloratura aria for more of a mezzo voice. Also, lyric/dramatic/spinto/coloratura/mezzo, etc all these voice types I believe have much more to do with the certain QUALITY and texture of the voice rather than the range.

I feel stupid now
Well, pretty much, I wish I had those super-high notes. But my highest note is about a high C on a good day.

Posted: 10/8/06 at 8:41pm^^^exactly. But I'm asuming MY Fair Lady wishes she had a higher range, in which case, well, I don't know your voice, but with training, your range should increase.

Frankly, we don't know yet. I spent most of last year labeled a mezzo, but my voice has gone through a big change over the summer. I've always had a richer sound to my voice, so that was why we had decided I was a mezzo, plus the fact that my passagio lies right where a mezzo's would (around B C on the staff) But right now, listening to my voice I sound like a richer lyric soprano (maybe a spinto?), and my range is consistant with that fach. And my voice teacher gave me my first real aria and it's a lyric soprano aria. I'll never be a coloratura, though. Give me long legato lines over staccato runs anyday.
I sing second soprano in choir, which kind of sucks since it lies mostly in my passagio, but I have an irrational fear of hitting high notes in a group setting. I can do them all I want in my solo stuff, but as soon as I'm in choir, they go away.
