Do you address them by their real names or their screen names.
When I saw the title of this thread, I knew what the question was going to be!
My answer is: it varies.

I thought it would be...
"do you avoid them?"

Real names, generally. But for a couple of people, the nickname has remained dominent.
real names. i find screen names kinda creepy in person. dunno why.
Real names. It does make it hard though because some people I have to remember their name on here, their name on AIM, and then their real name. I'm not that talented lol

It depends on the person. For some people, their online nickname/user name has just become a real nickname lol
I know there are a few people here (and a few who dont post here) who call me CJR, but I think it's more because it was a real nickname I turned into a user name and not the other way around.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
There are people from BWW who refer to me as "Joey" or "PJ" in real life (even though they know my real name), and it never ceases to make me smile.
But they're wonderful people and they would probably make me smile whatever they called me.
wait? people have friends on this board? like in real life and stuff? i want some.
I call them by their real names after we have introduced ourselves.
It just gets odd when you are talking to others about them (only in good ways, I swear!) and you are not sure whether they have met them - so you use screen names to the other person.
A little bit of both, depending on what we're doing.
Mostly their real names, but sometimes, for fun, their screen names. Or screen nicknames.

I honestly have to stop myself from using their real names on the board! I'm not a 'nickname' kind of person, so the screennames are kind of a nuisance to me. And not only do I like to use real names, but I prefer full names to shortened ones - hence 'Douglas'.
I hope I get the opportunity to find out-so far I've only met three! I think I was calling them by both their screen and real names.
Almost always their real names. Once in a while I'll use a nickname, but it's a name I've dubbed them, not their name here.
DG, please don't ever call me by my given name. Childhood flashbacks of knowing I was in trouble whenever I heard it bellowed throughout the house.

I take Dionne Warwick's advice and just "Walk on By".
I prefer to call someone by their real name, but I've found myself slipping on these few initial intros (Pal Joey, two other BWW dudes from Seattle, Tiff and Cammy)..
However, in person, I have a whole new host of other alternative names I prefer.. several are a play on my real name and others are completely off the wall... but all my buds know them.. I'm a man of many names...

Don't worry, bgirl - despite whatever personal preference I may have, I ALWAYS defer to what the person wishes to be called
It's a personal bugaboo of mine - what people LIKE to be called. It drives me nuts to be introduced as Douglas, and have someone automatically refer to me as Doug. It bespeaks a familiarity with what I'm comfortable with that I don't grant to many - and besides, those that are that close know I prefer Douglas!

I know what you mean DG. I go by my full first name, and it always irritates me when someone shortens it without my permission. If someone introduces himself to me as "Michael," I call him that unless instructed otherwise, not Mike, Mick, etc.
I have the same way with strange people who insist upon calling me by my first name, I have NEVER gone by my first name, it is likely that I will not respond if someone uses it. That person is my father, not me.
I call BWWers by their real names, to their face.
Although I sometimes slip into sn, and some people it just fits better.

Kringas - basically that makes us pissy elitist queens - but I DON'T CARE!
I usually call people by their real names.
Most people go back and forth with mine though :)

I don't think so, though, DG. I think it's just common respect.
I used to get really pissed when people would do that to me. Now I just get passive aggressive. If you shorten my name without my permission, I do the same to you, and I try to find the most annoying variation I can think of.

Kringas - I don't really think that either - but it's fun to say.
And really, if someone does that with my name, we're off to a really bad start as far as building mutual respect.
I think it's respect, also.
I call a person by the name they use when they introduce themself.
My real name lends itself to nicknames, and I don't mind most of them, though I do love it when people use my formal name.
I love formal names: Christopher, Douglas, Michael, James, etc... and if I had had children I would have selected formal names for them.
So I shouldn't call you Dougie when we meet, D?
