I def. know I'm not the most stressed or not even close. I just wanna vent :] I'm a freshman in high school (Well not really because the school I go to is a private K-9 school.) I have applications to do for secondary schools. That only is just annoying/crazy. I had to read like a billion chapters for Tale of Two Cities. I had 4 tests in the past week. Blah.

Well I'm only 12 so I am aware I have it a lot better off but anyway, here we go.

Monday- voice lesson from 3:30 to 4:30, then 2 hours of homework.
Tuesday- Tada! Youth Ensemble Rehearsal from 4 to 6, then 2 hours of homework
Wednesday-Jazz from 4-6, 2 hours homework.
Thursday- Tap from 4-7 (yes, three hours), 2 hours of homework.
Friday- Modern Dance which I HATE from 4-5, then 2 hours of homework.
Weekends- country house.

All the left over time is on the computer and phone...sometimes I skip classes for friends, and studying sometimes fills in more time, too.

7th grade is hard...but I guess it only gets worse.

Not to mention my grades have dropped down to a B+ average.

Oh,and because I go to middle school, I have required classes from 8:30-3:15 which are.

English, Social Studies, PE, Life Awareness (because they can't bring themselves to call it sex ed), RE-yes, religious ed. Episocpalian private schools suck), Math, Science, Tech, Chorus, Art, Spanish. Pretty sure that's it. But the order of classes is different daily, and there's only 7 classes a day so we don't have each class every day...and on tuesdays and wednesdays we have double period math and science.

im not necessarily the most stressed... but, like others, i will vent.

im only taking two academic classes my senior year.. but theyre difficult, including AP goverment with my completely 100% biased (to the OPPOSITE side i am) teacher. ugh.
my english teacher thinks its fun to give out 27 page papers. no lie.

but this month, i have my finals, Miss Saigon rehearsals are going to start after school until AT LEAST 5:30 (maybe 6:30) everyday in January, with 6+ hour Saturday rehearsals each week. On top of learning the role of Ellen, I have to memorize (well, first FIND) a 1-1.1/2 minute comedic monologue for college auditions, as well as practice my dramatic piece.
On top of monologues, I need to learn both my dramatic and comedic song, (well, first find the comedic song) because all of my college auditions fall IN BETWEEN one of the weeks of our show. fun? eh.

on top of applications... on top of finding a job. (WHAT?) on top of reading Grapes of Wrath (id like to be cast) on top of vocal lessons, on top of maintaining good grades, ON TOP OF THE SAT's and ACT's (retaking them), on top of getting out of school an hour later than the rest of the schools in our district. (even tho we start the same time)

some things are meant to be...

I work 8am-5pm Monday thru Friday.
Every weeknight I'm either in rehearsal, dance class, or auditioning.
During the day on Saturdays I teach dance classes.
Sundays are jam packed with dance classes.
And on top of that I'm working on college applications/auditions.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

I was just cast in a production of The Lower Depths where we're going to be re writing the script so that means a lot of table work and character work. I'm waiting to hear back about call backs for a film and trying desperately to save $6000 to study abroad at the Moscow Art Theatre. And I work at Jimmy John's.

I think that this thread makes people search for every little thing they're minutely involved in to list to make their lives seem more purposeful or just more fulfilling than the next person's. Of course that wouldn't mean I would refrain from taking part in the thread...I'm just saying, it seems kind of like applying to college. When they ask for your activities, you want to show off as much as possible, so you exaggerate (most of the time) and fish for the extra-curricular activity you are involved one hour a week in to add in print to the pages which will determine your life...because it seems important.

I wasn't very stressed when most of those things were going on in my life...you know, those things people list in college applications - and those things that are most frequently being listed here. I've found that the most stressful things in my life have to do with the nitty-gritty things. Pregnancy scares, Alzheimer's ailed grandparents, aunts with kidney failures, that kind of stuff.

The stuff you don't list in a college application.

The stuff nobody knows about until you (by some aberration of character) somehow decide to impart the knowledge unto a group of bystanders.

Wow, lovelyspotlight. Uncalled for. I wonder if that post made you feel more superior than everyone else. I mean, that really seemed to be the only intention for you to write that: to put everyone down while making yourself seem so much better. And, I must tell you, it didn't work. Last time I checked, most people's activities listed here seem pretty legit, not things that they are just "minutely involved in." And I think most people in this thread just needed to vent, not make themselves seem more important, as you so disgustingly assumed. Also, not all of us are so comfortable with discussing "nitty-gritty" things, although they do inevitably add to the stress in our lives. I find it quite comical that you claim that all people want to make their lives seem more purposeful, when you list instances in your own life that in fact give the impression that you want everyone to know you deal with "heavy" stuff. Yes, you are far more experienced. You KNOW what life is about.

The point is, it was SO unnecessary for you to post that. I know you want to seem years beyond everyone else, but a person who was TRULY that mature wouldn't have said a thing.

Oh, and by the way, when My Fair Lady started this thread, she said "Just for fun! Post your schedule and extracurriculars!"

Lovelyspotlight, about the second part of your post;thats so true, and very well put, but about the first I have to disagree, because I REALLY AM SO STRESSED.
First off, I share a car with my mother, so sometimes when I need it to get somewhere, I have to pick her up places and drop her off places, and all my scheduling is tight, but for school, I have:

AP human geography
AP english
AP stats
AP german
Honors Choir, except I'm in 2 ensembles and I also have a student internship 3 days a week in my study hall where I help direct middle school choir
and AP art history
And then I have to get ready for college auditions, I have a voice lesson mondays after school, and rehearsal for the musical every other day. I would probably be fine doing it all, but I work at a coffee shop weekends, so I get up at 6 every day, and I never get to catch up on sleep. My school also requires that you do 20 hours of community service every year to graduate.

I think though, since I'm a senior and knowing my school, once December rolls around, my classes will get easier (right now their still trying to scare kids into dropping out) and things will calm down.
EDITED: because I hate typos.

Whoa, flicker...

Okay, I'm sorry. Really and truly...the intentions you seem to think I had when I posted that were not them at all. I am genuinely apologizing if I made you feel that way - attacked or anything of the sort. In fact, I posted my schedule way back when...when the thread was first posted.

My post was a vent in itself...I wasn't sure if anybody would read through the lines carefully enough to see so. But I just posted that because I needed to share a little bit.

By no means am I saying that people who are involved in many activities are not stressed. I am just speaking from my own personal standpoint at this time in my life and saying that those activities I'm involved in are currently overshadowed by other things. I wasn't attempting to overshadow anybody else's activities. I do remember, when I posted in the thread whenever I did, trying to come up with EVERYTHING I was doing...because the thread is titled "Who's the Most Stressed?" and I somehow felt the need to compete. So I was somewhat commenting on that, yes. That's what I know that I did in college applications - wrote about EVERYTHING I could think of - even the one thing I did for one hour a week. I wasn't commenting on only the other people in this thread - I was commenting on myself as well.

So anyway, I didn't feel superior in any way, no, when I wrote that post. I did get a little bit of my pent up feelings out, yes...regarding things going on in my life. I KNOW that other people have tough "nitty gritty" things going on in their lives too...and I was just thinking about how much stress these things add to people's lives.

My apologies, also, for twisting the original intentions of the thread. That wasn't my aim. I really honestly didn't have an aim. No vicious, self-esteem-propelling motivation, I promise.

I'd also like to point out that I didn't claim to be any more mature than anybody else.

Really, you either read too deep into that post or not deep enough - I can't tell which.

Thank you, though, for making me feel horribly about wanting to share my feelings with a board I figured might be somewhat sympathetic of those things.

Either way, you completely misinterpreted my stance. And I apologize to you (and to anybody else who may have been offended) for that.

Edit: I guess I never did post on this thread before...but I remember thinking about a post and about the things I would list. I just didn't end up actually posting. Updated On: 9/7/08 at 02:35 PM

I think that the type of stress you're talking about is really different...less superficial. With everyday stressed, I think you constantly think to yourself "sh*t this is stressful"; but when you're stressed for one of the reasons you talked about, Lovelyspotlight, I don't think you think about how stressed you are, you just have an innate sense you need to get through everything, and you don't think about the stress until later.

"Thank you, though, for making me feel horribly about wanting to share my feelings with a board I figured might be somewhat sympathetic of those things. "
I think what you said was really important though, because its important not to be self-pitying because you're busy. I chose my schedule, its RIDICULOUS, but I love it, and I'm not complaining (yet).

I also think everyone on this board knows that being a serious mt or voice or dance student is not a walk in the park.

Yes, I agree. You're right, Juliash. The things I was mentioning definitely bring about more of a retrospective stress than a current, pressing "I want to rip my hair out" stress. That's a good point. And, because I've yet to go back to school (Northwestern starts September 23rd), it's a lot easier for me to sit here and ponder these things than to necessarily feel stressed about day-to-day activities, etc.

Again, I apologize if I offended any. I do wish everybody luck with their stresses! =]
