I loved that it is filmed in New York. Hi, Will Chase!

Though some of the flashback connections to history are a little kitschy, like the Cuban refugee rescue, I really liked the pilot. The flashbacks were used greatly for insight on the characters and their relationships. I loved that a lot of the characters were familiar with each other and bit by bit the audience gets clued in on their relationships.

I did get a kick out of Christina Ricci's introduction. That was the woman of the 60s that I imagined her to be than a stewardess.

I thought the female ensemble was great (I only knew Ricci and Kelli Garner but I liked the actresses who played Lauren and Collette) but I do think Mike Vogel has an uphill battle as essentially the male lead.

I was wondering the same thing about her hair. And completely in a different style.

Couldn't get through the episode and was really looking forward to it. Just not interesting to me. I'll try to rewatch the pilot and catch it again next week. Perhaps it deserves a second chance. Delicious design throughout, however.

artscallion, I thought about wigs and hairpieces, too, but in the first scene, Ricci's character is slumming with her beatnik pals in the Village. Hairpieces would seem out of place, but who knows?

At any rate, it was two seconds and it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the show. I just thought it was funny that her hair drastically changed in the short time.

Meh. Bring back Brothers and Sisters.

OMG I didn't know what I was missing!

I tuned in, expecting to change channels after 10 minutes. I loved it. Pure, delightful, escapist fun. I hope it did well in the ratings.

Because the comparisons to Playboy Club are unavoidable, I have to say that I thought Pan-Am evoked the 60s (or at least, what I think of when I imagine the 60s, as I was not alive then) in a way that Playboy Club didn't.

Great ratings. 11 million viewers. It beat CSI Miami, and built on DH ratings at 9pm.

I tried, but it didn't grab me. I thought the dialogue was pretty terrible, especially for the male characters. As for the art direction, which is the real "star" of the show, I thought it looked way too clean and scrubbed. Almost like a cartoon. Everybody smoked back then, even on the airplanes. It caused smokey hazes everywhere you went, and white walls were quickly yellowed with tar and "atmosphere." But, on this show, nothing looked "lived in." It all looked like a freshly-painted set for a candy-colored musical. Whites were too white. Too fake. Even the musical "Hairspray," set in the same era, looked grittier than this.

The four female leads seemed fine. The guys were only so-so (and as I mentioned before, their dialogue was awful, which didn't help them at all).

I found myself losing interest by the end. I probably won't watch again, but this was a rare exception for me to tune in. I never watch series TV. I thought I'd check this one out to see how "authentic" it was. The answer for me (having my own vague recollections of actually living in NYC during the early 1960s) is ... not authentic at all. In tone or in style.
