"After demanding that the mother of a crying toddler 'shut that n****r baby up,' a male passenger allegedly slapped the 19-month-old across the face as a flight prepared to land in Atlanta last Friday evening, The Smoking Gun has learned."
HELL to the NO!
Wow, he's only getting charged with a simple assault? Had I been on that plane I'd have been charged with attempted manslaughter because I'd have beaten the piss out that guy until his crying was drowning out the babies.
It should be a hate crime, not a "simple assault."

Interesting. Some of you thought it was ok to slap a toddler in
this thread

Well...there's using hyperbole to vent your disgust at someone you'll never meet.
And then there's actually slapping a 19-month-old after calling it a 'n* baby.'
Just a titch different.
No, I still want to smack the shlt out of that kid whenever I see him.

Her, Jordan. That poor screwed up kid Honey Boo Boo is a her. And sure, Robbie, it's different - but voicing the desire to slap a child is the first step. After that it's only a matter of degrees.
Ha! I thought that was the thread I started about the child movie critic.
Oh come now, ghostlight! Haven't we all seen 12 ANGRY MEN? Hyperbole does not lead to violence.
Why isn't Nancy Grace all over this story? Oh, yeah. No blonde was involved. And the baby was Black? Sorry. No story here.
It is NEVER ok to slap a toddler.
And this is coming from someone who can't stand the little f***ers.
There is no excuse in this world or the next that could ever justify an adult hitting a toddler.
I sort of disagree. A toddler who puts his or her life in danger let's say by disobeying a parent and running into oncoming traffic should get a slap. This will help the child associate the action they have just taken with physical pain. A child cannot really comprehend what hot is until there is a physical sensation associated with the word.
I was just thinking about this. My generation of children got slapped plenty. Since it became a violent crime to hit your kids, does that have anything to do with that obnoxious air of entitlement we see today?
Stockard, of course on the butt. As I kid if I spoke to my parents with anything but respect I would get a slap across the face. I am not advocating that type of treatment at all however.
Jane, I know child rearing mores have changed drastically over the 50+ years I have been around. I think however each generation has been viewed as obnoxious with an air of entitlement after the Depression.
Yea, I agree with some form of discipline when needed but I was referring to striking a toddler out of anger, not for their own good.
Also, just want to clarify that I am talking specifically about toddlers. Not children who have the capacity to understand or know better.
I haven't had that same experience as you, SNAFU. Can't put my finger on the exact date, but for the past several years I see that not only is there not much if any discipline taking place, but a complete reversal of roles. The children seem to be the bosses now who make all the decisions.
They THINK they make the decisions.....
I just need to mention the fact that it pisses me off that the article refers to her child as her "adopted son." Had he been her biological child, would it have said that? No way.
I would have been carried off that plane with the FBI waiting for me because I would have figured out a way to gouge his eyes out with cocktail straws.

Aw, Robbie, now you have me missing Jack Klugman. He was quite the handsome man in his time, in his own way.
I was the youngest of many, back in the day were it was common for kids to be struck. I never got more than the occasional thwack on the bottom or the hand, but my elder siblings took more than a few ... I won't say beatings, but implements were involved, and on occasion there was a slap to the face for a disrespectful remark.
I don't know if I learned to avoid it by observation, or whether my parents were just too tired by the time I came along, but we all grew up to be very polite useful members of society.
This situation, though, is right out of bounds. In this occasion, I would have been right there with Patronus. I most certainly would have been arrested for my reaction after witnessing something like that.
Twelve Angry Men
When I was in high school, my father once caught me in a lie. He really gave it to me in the face. I don't think I even went to school that day. However, I never lied after that, and my love and respect for my father never changed. And I have never laid a hand on anyone in my life time (because my father once did to me). In other words - it worked!
Judicial corporate punishement works. As I said before a child has to associate pain with the word 'hot' or the word means nothing to him.
Unfortunately my Step Father was quite abusive and I often times had to wear long pants and long sleeve shirts in the summer to hide the welts from the belt. I ended up being a good kid, shoot I was a good kid, yet got the beatings.
I do not necessarily promote corporate punishment however, I do believe at times it is warranted and if used correctly, a parenting tool.
However, for someone other then a parent or grandparent to administer said punishment is unacceptable! In this case I really fall in line that the slapper should be charged with assault and a hate crime for using the racial slur while performing the deed.
^ Definitely! Not only is it unacceptable to strike someone else's child, it is not recommended to even admonish them verbally.
The racial slur - punishable by law!
I am all for "spanking" on the butt when a child misbehaves. I was a few times.
But this is some guy calling a baby that he doesn't even know the n-word, and then smacking him.
That is just wrong. This guy should be charged with something much more severe. And fired from his job. And hit with a truck. But perhaps the last part is just my wishful thinking. If I was on that plane, I would probably be in jail.
