"unjustly exiled"
Well Joe, I like the kid too (not for talent), but let's face it, if he goes, it will not be unjustified-he simply can't sing and this show is supposed to be about singing. If that prevailed, he should have been the first one booted off.
I'm a fan, but I think it's time for him to go!

Blake had his weakest performance last night, but he was still better than at least 3 others. He doesn't have the range of Melinda Dolittle (who I agree should win), but I think he's brilliant in his genres.
If he goes home tonite for some nutso reason, I will likely stop watching.

I tried calling for Blake after I got home from the theater last night and gave up after about 30 minutes of not getting through. If his line was still that busy at midnight I'm pretty sure the boy is safe tonight.

I do not watch "American Idol," but I have a question for those of you who do.
I keep hearing about this Sunjaya fellow, or as a local on-line columnist calls him, "Miss India," and how bad he is. I did see the clip from last night during which Simon called his performance, "Utterly horrendous." So, my question is if he is so bad why did the judges keep him around long enough to be voted on by the public? Don't they only have themselves to blame if he ends up winning?!?

Billy I can only guess that the people who make fun of Sanjaya are jealous of his talent, his beauty, his massive following. Jealousy is an ugly misstress.

DBP, it pisses me off when JG calls him Miss India 2007. In a way, it is homophobia, making fun of him for being effeminate.
And, to answer your question, because he has a lot of Howard Stern fans and people at votefortheworst.com voting for him trying to bring down AI.I's hillarious, actually.

But why did the judges keep him through the preliminary stages of the competition?!?

He actually showed promise in the a cappella section of the auditions. But put music under that boy and it's a disaster.
I also wouldn't rule out a strong Middle Easter voting block. The desire to see any sort of non-terrorist representation is POWERFUL!

i also dont get why everyone is focusing on fact that he's indian... he's actually only HALF indian. he's also half italian. but you never hear about that part of him.
i read an article that went as far as saying that he's doing so well because the call canters are probably in india and the people at the call centers are rigging it so he wins.
oh well... whatever.
GO SANJAYA!!!

Yeah, he seemed to have a nice tone and decent pitch in the preliminay a capella rounds. He actually seemed promising, but as Robbie said, every since he's had to sing with the orchestra (which I bet he'd never done in his life) his singing has been mostly awful.

I thought he had a lovely voice in the early sections of the show.
and, I also find many comments made about him to be racist and especially sexist/offensive to the transgendered community.
let's critique his performing abilities. let's critique his hair choices. but let's not feed into those other kinds of hate-filled comments.

He is, as was pointed out, Indian/American. Nothing to do with the Middle East.

There is an internet campaign to keep him on *because* he's so awful. It was initially organized by Howard Stern and now has taken a life of its own. And IMHO it's because the "idols", past and present, have been such losers after the shows' run.

Yeah they sure have, none of them have amounted to a hill of beans! You win this here Idol contest and the most you can look forward to is selling 60,000,000 records (Kelly Clarkson)or Multiple Grammys (Carrie Underwood)!
You do realize that for the past 5 years Idol has been the single most successful TV or Music franchise in the world?

Oops I'll use this double post to again express my fervent hope that Sanjaya makes it through this dificult week!
I'll be singing my Special Wednesday Night song, set to the tune "Mariah" from Paint Your Wagon:
"Way out west they got a show, with Paula, Randy, Simon.
Paula's drunk, Simon's mean and they call the best SANJAYA
Sanjaya! They...Call...the...Best...SANJAYA!"

On "Happy Days" there was an episode late in the series when Fonzie jumped over a shark on a pair of water skis. It was all downhill for the series from there -- it was a signal that the writers had completely run out of decent ideas.

And when a celebrity does something in public that proves he has gone off the deep endm we say he has "jumped the couch" (as in Tom Cruise on Oprah).
