Will Anyone Be Watching the Miss Universe Pageant Tonight?

I know, I know, completely shallow, objectification of women. But the Miss Universe pageant has been a guilty pleasure of mine since I was maybe 5 or 6 years old, I've always been into it.
This year it takes a special significance because my best friend is an actual competitor! I'm really excited, she is the Venezuelan contestant, and seems to have a pretty good buzz going on around her.
Anyone else seeing the show tonight?

*raises hand high in the air*. Miss Venezuela always does well- your friend must be STUNNING! I watched the Miss Florida USA pageant last night with my daughter. So many fake girls but the girl who won deserved it. I'm rooting for Miss USA- I think she has a good shot as well as she is absolutely gorgeous and very-well spoken.

This is a picture of her from the Miss Universe site. I'm in NY now, but when I get back to my place I'll post pictures I have of her when we were 15 or so. I'm glad you're watching, Supportivemom. I agree, there's a lot of fake girls, but like I said, it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

Ray- I went to the Miss Universe website to see Dayana's profile. Wow! She is beautiful and she has such personality. I would be really surprised if she doesn't make it in the Top Ten!

Aw, supportivemom, you're owning up to your screenname :)

Here's a short interview in which they ask her a few silly questions, but I love seeing her go at it. I particularly love what she says when they ask her about the wardrobe.
We went to school together in Venezuela since we were five, and I was the person she called when she was first approached by someone on the street to get started in modeling, so it kinda tears me up to see her in this. It's very surreal. Hope people watch.

I always watch the beauty/talent pageants. My friend Vickie and I used to make a bunch of fattening food and open some wine and watch. Then we'd feel guilty eating the stuff because all of the girls were so skinny. LOL!!!

Ray- I can see that you are very proud of her and you should be! I love how her eyes just glimmer when she is answering the questions. I don't see anything fake or rehearsed about her. Just 2 more hours to go! I also saw her country costume- she looked stunning!

OK, so I just checked at Big Brother is on at 8, and Miss Universe doesn't start til 9! WOO HOO!

Although How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria is on at 8 also. But I set the tivo for that one.

And she's 2nd on evening gown- darn it Miss Columbia! Poor Miss USA. As soon as they announced her, I said I hope she stays on her feet- and then she fell- oy!

So USA fell in Evening gown...AGAIN! 2nd year in a row. But she got up like a trooper! GO USA!!

This pageant doesn't do talent. At first, I thought she fell on purpose in solidarity of last year. But then, I saw the look on her face and she seemed diappointed. Loved Venezuela's and Mexico's answer.

Colombia wasted so much time: B+
Venzeula was great (Im rooting for her):A-
Dominican Republic (this question was so cliche): B
Mexico was great...good answer: A+
Russia(Her lips are driving me nuts): B

Mexico and Venezuela are my favorites. My daughter can't stand Russia either. She doesn't appear to be very pleasant.

SHE WON!!! Ray- You must be ecstatic!!!!!!!!!

My favorite dresses were Russia's and Venezuela's. Woo. I'm so happy Miss Venezuela won. She seemed the most real out of all of them.

Ray- come on- check in with us! You can now say you know the new Miss Universe! I'm so happy for you. How exciting! I knew when I looked her up this afternoon she had a light in her. I'm so glad the judges saw that at the end and she beat Miss Columbia! Can't wait to read what you think!
