Oh, that sucks! I know how boring life can be...
I always start to tidy my room when I'm bored. So much about "Uninteresting Facts of GuyfromGermany's Life"

So is your room often clean then or do you hardly get to tidying up the room, guyfromgermany?
Edit: later this evening, M.Berger will come back from this very original My Fair Lady version, I am already curious about his review

Ah...I remember when K-town American HS would play Frankfurt American HS in football.........we GI's always laughed that the K-Town fight song was Petula Clark's 'Downtown".......and it cracked me up that Frankfurt used 'Mighty Oregon" the U of Oregon (my alma mater) fight song.
It depends.
But YES, I have friends and NO, I don't spend 24hrs of the day on message boards... *g*

Was there a reason for that choice, Elphaba, or just that it's a nice fight song?
And GuyfromGermany, that's how it should be
Please don't mention football... The WM-craziness drives me mad!!!

Makes me recall there are many musicals featuring great sport scenes in it. Some of my favorites: The Football Game from All American and What a Game from Ragtime
Oh, I love Ragtime! I'm listening to "Sarah Brown Eyes" right now...

Have you ever noticed that the ragtime 2disc CD they sell in Germany has a different picture on the booklet compared to the copies they sell in the US. No idea why.
Edit: I fortunately once got my Mom to buy it for me, when I had listened to a track playing on the radio.

Ha...I love Ragtime as well. I listened to it all day yesterday.
The German one always reminds me of the first "Lord of the Rings" movie...

I haven't seen it. Did they translate Ragtime? How bad is it?
Broadway Legend Joined: 8/25/04
lol, no no, it is merely a different release of the OBC
No translation and no German production yet. although I would travel through most of Germany to see that.
What do you think about "Tarzan" coming to Germany?
I have no idea why the chose to do so with those really, REALLY bad reviews...

Depends on who translated it...
I had to learn "Take me or leave me" in German *shudders*

They'll do so, because Disney does not give a ..... whether the critics in NYC like it or not. They know European audiences will attend anything that says Disney, Lloyd Webber or Wildhorn. So it is the audience's turn to say no by staying away. Which they won't, because people going to see a musical in Germany don't so like going into theatre but rather like going into Disneyland.
Edit: That's probably our veteran translator Michael Kunze. But I was told, Wolfgang Adenberg is at the moment working at a new translation of Rent. Well, admittedly I don't care for this show extremely much anyhow, but was one of only a very few who went to cinema to see it in Berlin.

Apart from that, they are completely deprived! There are like, what 15 shows playing? At the most... And it's all crap like that, they just don't know any better...
The original German translation of Rent is one of the worst translations of a musical I have ever heard! I'm really excited for the new lyrics.
And the best example for "being deprived" is the new production of "Dirty Dancing" in Hamburg... Why, god, WHY???

That's a bit too hard, the main problem is that Germans regard only those musicals to be worthy of their attendance that are long running ones provided by stage holding or a company like that. Many regional "Stadttheater" do provide better shows, including most of the Sondheim repertory, but you usually just don't drive to another city to visit their "Stadttheater".
On second thought I maybe should from now on *lol*
