oh, Judy, I have to disagree. From my friend in Toronto, I have heard the words aboot, oh-oot (for out), tomorrow (like too-more-oh), and mum. :)
It's like people from Missouri swearing they don't say Missour-uh. IT's there, you just can't hear it in yourself. Wait until I say y'all. Laugh all you want. Embrace yo' he'tige, guhl!
And let me cross-pollenate on these threads. www.shirleyqliquor.com. She may be playing a lovely Southern African American woman, but that accent is pure south. Go. Imagine life with my grandmother.

Bwaysinger...
You could have opened a big can of worms with Shirley’s website (I am glad you did though) -- I think it is hysterical, but I know some people are offended by it - she was supposed to play a club in NYC a couple years back and there was such a protest over her black face, it actually did not go on (I was upset because we had tickets to see her

Read what RuPaul has to say about Shirley. Also, do a quick search on the Shirley Q. Liquor thread, upon which I posted. Some of her fiercest fans in the south are black. It's like many things; it's not derogatory when it comes from a firsthand life. He also does Betty Butterfield, a charmless white lady from the south. They're very similar.

Matt_G - Were you watching Never Been Kissed again?
Geschnetzeltes - ok, it's German, but it's funny. I always order it when I see it on a menu.

and speaking of das deutsch, who *doesn't* think "schnitzel" is funny? I mean, really. I'm secretly convinced that it *really* means "weird word we invented to make Americans titter"
Fried meat, anyone?

I can't stand the word 'picnic'. It annoys me so much, because it's a really funny word.
And, my favorite words ever: cattywampu and gogmagog

Pulchritude fascinates me b/c it sounds so guttural when spoken, yet means beauty. Funny story about that word: I was at an improv show where they asked for suggestions. I yelled at pulchritude... the entire audience and actors stopped and all eyes were on me. They ended up using it and the scene went over well.
Another one of my favorites is lugubrious (which means sad, but to an intense degree).
