Windy, that sounds like my crazy relative who used to give out "Left Behind" books, all of which gathered dust on my parents' bookcase.

It is indeed the thought that counts, but sometimes that thought is an ugly one. I thought about sending a nice bottle of wine the next year. (they're "good Baptists" and don't drink)

My great aunt is a nun and about a million years old. Every Christmas, she gets all the kids in my family (ie. everyone under 30) presents. But we're Irish Catholic so there are alot of us, and she has no money. I've gotten alot of cheap hand lotion, and notebooks from CVS and stuff like that. Last Christmas, my cousin Steven got a package of paper napkins with the $.55 price tag on it. His reaction was the single greatest moment EVER.

Ah, the present looked Christmassy, so I was thinking he was so traumatized from making those Christmas movies that he started doing... eccentric... Christmas-related... exhibitionist things.

It's way too easy to make 'package' related puns.

insertclevernamehere-- I use up about thirty spiral notebooks a year, so my parents often just give me a big box with like a million different-colored fifty-cent notebooks. But they would never go so far as to give me paper napkins!

I've never really gotten an awful gift, but I have gotten multiples sometimes. This year, I know about four people who are most likely going to get me Spring Awakening: In the Flesh. Ironically, I bought a copy months ago back when it first came out.

Woithout a doubt, the worst present I ever recived were six "eggs" made from birdseed. They came packaged in a fake egg carton which was falling apart when I opened it. The eggs had twine hangers attached to them and when I hung them in the trees in my backyard, the birds ignored them. They completely dissolved in a rainstorm.

When I was 3 my grandparents gave me, my sister, and my brother (who was barely a year old) each $5 in a plain envelope.

When I was 5 my uncle gave me a box of peanut brittle, and my great-grandmother gave me a fishbowl full of potpourri.

Last year a young friend gave me a pink and white striped resin picture frame with teddy bears on it. It said, "A fiend loveth at all times." Now, if you know me, you know nothing about me screams picture frame with teddy bears. I am sure it was regifted. Eh, it's the thought that counts. (She also cut out a picture of Sara Ramirez and put it in it which made it creepier somehow.)

My grandmother gave my mother a few HIDEOUS sweatshirts a few years ago. My mothers face was priceless. I do realize, however, how this fails in comparison to others (A ROCK!?), but it is still very funny to me none the less.

This isn't a Christmas present story, but my neighbors gave out combs for Halloween one year. Needless to say, in the morning their lawn looked like a barber shop exploded on it.

JerseyGirl2, that story just made me laugh so hard. I don't know why, but it did.

And yeah, I totally understand it being difficult to pick gifts out for people sometimes. I just did the same thing for a Secret Santa thing at work. The person I got only started working last week, and I only saw her on the one day. So, when I have to give it to her, I hope she likes it.
