Good evening.
Just came back from X3. Wow. For those of you going to see the movie stay until the end of the credits for the twist.
SPOILER!! Do not read on if you dont want to know what happens!
SPOILER!! Did Cyclops really die? It's hard to tell. Maybe I'm just in denial because I really enjoy that character in the xmen books. And Jean??? And Mystic and Rouge are normal again?? Or do you think the "cure" wears off, as Magneto was able to make the chess pieces wiggle.
Curious to know what you think!
Did Cyclops really die? It's hard to tell.
I'm pretty sure. On the other hand, you never know with these Marvel superheroes. They always have a way of coming back...
And Jean???
I think she's died several times in the comic (and once in the cartoon). If they do a sequel, she'll probably be back.
And Mystic and Rouge are normal again??
Yes. For now.
Or do you think the "cure" wears off, as Magneto was able to make the chess pieces wiggle.
I'm really not sure what that was supposed to mean. It's quite possible that the Cure was faulty, and wears off after a certain amount of time. Dunno.
I walked out of the theater slightly shocked. A part of me felt like the director/screenplay writters were playing a trick on me. I couldn't believe that they wiped out 3 characters (kinda) in one movie. You could totally tell it was a different director this time around. It was very violent compared to the 1st two. I liked it very much.
I wonder what Bryan Singer opinons will be after seeing this movie. I wonder if he would have allowed Cyclops to be "killed". Please, please dont let him be dead. (He didnt even have any good scenes in the movie...they killed almost immediately.

This movie was incredibly shocking. Yes I believe all of their powers will go back because although they harvested the DNA of Leech, they said they were not able to directly replicate his powers. Plus I believe the cure was medically imperfect and probably was not tested on a long-term basis. Magneto certainly was able to wiggle the chess piece and will hopefully come back equally as strong cause the sequence of him freeing Mystique was so incredible.
I was blown away that Scott was killed and Charles will be coming back because remember in the ethics class he was asking if it was morally sound to transfer the mind of a dying patient into that of someone who was mentally incapacitated or something? Well he did that I believe and pulled what Gandalf did. He knew what he was doing and was certainly smart enough to consider transferring his mind into the body of that terminal guy. Plus, the nurse Moira in the comics was who he was to be married to when he was young, but they didn't because his dedication to mutant equality was so consuming. So I think she was on-call and could treat him after he successfully transferred his mind. This is all just my theory and interpretation.
The last half hour kicked major ass and the movie was definitely an OMG movie. How perfect was it that Storm let loose and kicked major ass by going overkill on the annoying Callisto? Loved it. Feel bad for Rogue though because I wish she was cured and that is what she wanted. Her powers prevent her from really having a happy life and plus her power sucks anyway IMO. Comment back with any reactions or bringing up anything else on such an awesome movie
So fabulous!
And the scene after the credits was thrilling!
And my WORD there are some attractive actors in that movie... Good thing I didn't see it with my boyfriend. He might've gotten jealous when seeing my reactions every time Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, and Angel came on screen. Or he might've been staring at Phoenix with such intense concentration that he wouldn't have noticed...

Well Famke has some killer legs, remember Goldeneye? It was nice seeing her as a psychotic killer again . After kicking Wolverines ass in the subbasement, she strutted right on out in those shorts, tank, and slippers, all showing off her sexiness. She definitely had some nice clothes too, like the red dress at Magnetos rally in which he pulled the Eva Peron signature arm gesture. I laughed.
I still can't get over how great the Golden Gate bridge scene was. Magneto and Storm both had their parts fairly beefed up this time. Nice to see them take center spotlight.

I can't believe I missed the secret scene after the credits!! I was going to stay since I had a hunch something would show at the end, but my friend wanted to leave... gah. =(
I HATED this movie! Brett Ratner should never be allowed to pick up a movie camera again! Bryan Singer must be feeling a sense of shock. I didn't stay long enought to watch the credits. I needed to get the hell out of there. Can someone describe in detail what happened after the credits? Why not put this in during the movie? Isn't this like finding out Darth Vader is Luke's father AFTER the credits?
I LOVED the first X-Men & think X-Men II is probably one of the best comic book movies ever. It was just sad to see what they did to this series. Harry Knoweles summed it to perfection. Imagine if they made Dr.No, & From Russia With Love but decided that Connery was getting to big & wanted to pay him for only one more mobvie. SO, they put Goldfinger,Thunderball,You Only Live Twice,On Her Magesty's Secret Service & Diamonds are forever & wrap it all up in one giant movie. Killing off charahcters just as fast as they are introduced.X-Men III was like this. For the fans who Love the comics it was just a painful thing to watch. Didn't even hint on the Dark Phoenix series. WHat a waste!
I am torn on this movie. Overall, I liked it better than the first two. This movie FINALLY had the feeling of the X-Men comic books. The other two were just so dramatic (leave that to Spider-Man). Plus, the my least favorite character of the other two . . . STORM . . . became my favorite character in this movie. Storm was an African Goddess before becoming a member of the X-Men, but the first two movies, she was so wimpy. In this movie, she kicked serious butt and came out as the leader of the X-Men for the first time. HALLELUJAH!!! Also, I almost cheered when Pyro and Bobby were fighting and he became the ICEMAN we have all grown to love in the comics/cartoons where his whole body is made of ice.
Now, what I didn't like about the movie was that characterization was thrown to the back burner for the action. Angel was publicized as the new mutant and thru the movie you had a sense that he was really going to kick butt, but he was barely in it and the final scenes, he just flies in and grabs his dead and nothing else. I thought he was wasted (Angel is one of my favorites of the comics and cartoons). Also, Rogue was hardly in it as well. The first two movie kept building that Rogue was going to be this GIGANTIC piece of some X-Men puzzle but then she was wasted too.
Like I said, all-in-all I liked it better than the other two but the characterization was horribly misguided. If they do a fourth one, they need to combine the characterization level of the first two and the action of the third one. I, as well did not stay until the final credits. DANG IT!!
I was greatly dissapointed with this movie. I expected a lot and maybe that's why it didn't do well with me. There was entirely way too many main characters in the movie and I didn't like the way they handled the Phoenix Saga aspect of the movie. And Halle Berry was in way too many scenes for my liking.
spiderdj-
I agree with EVERYTHING that you said. Some good things, some really bad things. However, I thought the first two were much better.
This movie sure raked in the dough yesterday. Yowza'.
Okay, for those who want to know what happened after the credits...
SPOILERS AND ALL THAT
Moira is just checking in on the brain-dead patient Xavier discussed with his ethics class earlier. She's looking away somewhere else when you hear the patient suddenly say, "Moira?" in Patrick Stewart's voice. Moira looks at him, completely shocked, and goes, "Charles?" And that's the end.
Okay, as for the rest of the movie... I enjoyed it, but it was NOT at the level of the first two. Way too many characters. There wasn't any focus on ANYBODY. I thought we were going to see a lot more of Angel and was really disappointed on that front. Bryan Singer really knew how to handle these movies, and it's awful that Fox rushed this film so badly to not include him.
I, too, was shocked at the number of deaths in the film. EVERYBODY knew that Scott's was coming (and I won a bet with my brother by his being killed by Jean), but I was totally taken by surprise by Charles and Jean (AGAIN). I personally hate Cyclops as a character, so I didn't mind much. Halle Berry just needs to get out of these movies. I was so excited when she said she wasn't going to be in this one, because all she does is demand more stuff and screen-time over more interesting characters. Storm has always bored me.
I have a feeling the cure's going to wear off. I don't think they had any long-term testing, and Leech's power was simply proximity-based, it seemed. Let's hope Rogue has fun while it lasts.
I can't wait to see it!

The thing that bothered me about Scott's death was that they didn't really show his death, all you see is his kiss with Jean and then Jean confessing that she killed him. So, through the entire movie, until Jean's death, I was thinking, "He's not dead," even thought he was.
I am really upset that I missed the scene after the credits. Thanks, Taryn, for posting a synopsis.

I agree with you TheaterAddict, the lack of emphasis they put on Scotts death made it seem like there was going to be more to it to clear up the off screen accident. However, that was basically it, that annoyed me. I don't even remember him dying in the comics and with such a bit part in this one, it frustrated me that they killed of a leading character in the manner they did.
I was so hoping for more Mystique acrobatics, but was surprised with how little she was given, but the final scene she was really in was very good in terms of acting. I never knew how beautiful Rebecca was out of costume, damn! Ian McKellan is such a remarkable actor and he always finds ways to shine in every one of them.

Taryn, thank you for posting what happens in the secret scene!
Oh, and Cain Marko is NOT a mutant. That annoyed me. :/

Hugh Jackman really worked hard to bulk up for Wolverine and it shows (he's discussed it on some of the talk shows and in magazines, one being the latest Men's Health). And now he has to lose it again to play Peter Allen in Australia. And the love scene with Jean....!!!
I hear this is suppose to the last of the xmen movies, is that true? I hope they make a least one more. There are so many things left open. I don't feel it gave a true resolve for the characters and for the school...unless they do a New Mutants movie based the school.

I also think they left a lot open. Hugh has always said this is the last of the TRILOGY so I'm guessing if there is another one it may be with a lot of new X-Men and start "another trilogy." You never know. But the next one - although not X-Men per se - is definitely "Wolverine" - Hugh is probably filming that next year for release in 2008 - my guess would be before he heads back to Broadway which is rumored for the 2007-2008 season.
According to a newspaper I read last week, the wolverine movie is going to be called "LOGAN'S RETURN" and will be directed by Bryan Singer.
Wow - 107 million three day total! That's incredible -- the theater I was in this afternoon was nearly empty....
I just got back from seeing it. Personally, I liked it, although the previous ones were better. Jean Grey was insanely cool, I loved her! Her hair was gorgeous...and very creepy, heh.
About the thing at the end of the credits, "Moira" was the woman in the video Xavier was showing to his students earlier in the movie, right? If that's the case, if they do make a fourth movie, I think they'll somehow put Xavier's mind into the unconscious man, a way of "resurrecting" him, I suppose.
I'd see it. *shrug*
