You think gas here is expensive?

Just heard from a friend in Karlsruhe, Germany......gas there is hovering around
$9.30 a gallon!!! (can you imagine???)
Energy providers are raising the price of propane there by 25%, as the propane rate is coupled with the gas price.
A stupid rule that was agreed upon in the 1960's to regulate the competetion.
Now, the German farmers have halted milk deliveries to the dairies. And why you ask? They want more money for their milk.

Posted: 5/28/08 at 1:32pmI also heard that about half that price is made up of various taxes.

Posted: 5/28/08 at 1:34pmIt's about 4.12 here in San Diego. Who wants to bet it'll be up to 5 dollars by November?

Posted: 5/28/08 at 1:40pmFinally we are catching up to the rest of the world with our gas prices - it was bound to happen. I know back home (Costa Rica) gas is about $4.75 a gallon, the difference is that it has been a gradual process over many years.

" Who wants to bet it'll be up to 5 dollars by November?"
Sadly, yes. Quite possibly before November.
Here in S. Florida it's between $3.94- $4.10.
Maybe that bike I have doesn't look like such a bad idea.
My brother (who lives near Washington, DC), won't pay the gas prices and rides his bike 9 miles EACH WAY to work. He goes in around 7am and comes home around 6pm.
(The other day he slid on mud and needed 15 stitches, but that's a whole other story).

Posted: 5/28/08 at 3:43pmIt's about $4.85 here ($1.28/L) and I live 6 hours away from one of the biggest oil sands in North America, in a city surrounded by refineries. It's not fair.

It costs me £50 (£100) to fill up the tank on my car.
I spend a lot of time in Germany, so it's a lose-lose situation.
You Americans don't know you're born. You've got the hambugers, hotdogs, popcorn and practically free fuel: - )
I'll be in Florida this October, and I'm looking forward to paying for gas with loose change...

This might actually start to force Americans -*GASP!* - to consider how they're living their daily lives. Perhaps the greediest and most spoiled consumers on the planet are going to have to re-evaluate their priorities. Oh, the trauma.
Speaking of consumerism, this has got to be sending serious shock waves through the trucking system. It shouldn't be long before that all starts to manifest itself in the already teetering economy. Whoo-hoo!

"You Americans don't know you're born."
That doesn't even make sense....can you translate that please?
Everything is expensive in Sweden....not just gas.
Germany has had high gas prices for years...LONG before GWB
And DG, that isn't fair. Our cities are spread out much more than Europe, who has excellent public transportation systems.
As to most greedy consumers, you may want to consider the Saudis, the Bruneise (??) and others first.

Posted: 5/28/08 at 9:49pmIt's 4.19 here on Long Island. I can see it hitting five bucks by July 4th, given the steep increments it has gone up by in the past three weeks.

You can look up gas prices and find the cheapest near you.
The most expensive in the states is in Pebble Beach, CA at $5.06/gallon.
NYC looks like it's on the low side of gas prices.
To find the cheapest gas near you, go to gasbuddy.com or mapquest.com and click 'gas.'

No, it's a humour(l)ess local colloquialism.
How to explain the irony of Easy Street. You either get or you don't.
As for me not making sense, this isn't the first time I've heard that.

Posted: 5/29/08 at 5:30pmI almost crashed today on my way to work ... the gas station I fill-up at was $4.09 on Saturday and $4.25 today for regular.
