At least he didn't compare himself to an insane mass-murderer in his very first campaign speech...
Like Michele Bachmann happily did!

This is actually one of the worst starts I can imagine. Isn't today her official big announcement? I can't stop laughing.

Yes. She LAUNCHED her campaign by comparing herself to John Wayne Gacy. And since that crowd never retreats or apologizes she is going to have to explain that she MEANT to do so. "I love America SO much I want to tie it up, rape it and bury it n my crawlspace!"

What did I say? Never apologize, never admit you were wrong, never retreat....The spin begins.

The official explanation is that John Wayne's parents lived briefly in Waterloo and that is what she referred to. Riiiight.
Right: She's right.

Reginald - actually it's "briefly lived."

That means I'm from about 12 different cities across the country.

"There goes the liberal media again. Taking her exact quotes as she said them and making her look bad. You lefties and your gotcha questions.Michelle Bachman is clearly the victim here!"

This will be Bachman's official press release. I seriously doubt a single word will be left out.

I'm sure she meant John Wayne, though. His comments to Playboy in 1971 would make him the star of the Republican Party today.

I don't feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them if that's what you're asking. Our so called stealing of this country was just a question of survival. There were great numbers of people who needed new land the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves....

I know all about that. In the late Twenties, when I was a sophomore at USC, I was a socialist myself -- but not when I left. The average college kid idealistically wishes everybody could have ice cream and cake for every meal. But as he gets older and gives more thought to his and his fellow man's responsibilities, he finds that it can't work out that way -- that some people just won't carry their load.... I believe in welfare -- a welfare work program. I don't think a fella should be able to sit on his backside and receive welfare. I'd like to know why well-educated idiots keep apologizing for lazy and complaining people who think the world owes them a living. I'd like to know why they make excuses for cowards who spit in the faces of the police and then run behind the judicial sob sisters. I can't understand these people who carry placards to save the life of some criminal, yet have no thought for the innocent victim.

With a lot of blacks, there's quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.

. I don't feel guilty about the fact that five or 10 generations ago these people were slaves. Now, I'm not condoning slavery. It's just a fact of life, like the kid who gets infantile paralysis and has to wear braces so he can't play football with the rest of us. I will say this, though: I think any black who can compete with a white today can get a better break than a white man. I wish they'd tell me where in the world they have it better than right here in America

Michele Bachmann Refuses To Answer Question About How Some Of Her "Facts" Are Completely Made Up BS!Fast forward to the 3:50 mark. Its painful to watch. Bob Schieffer had to ask her 3 or 4 times and never got an answer from her.I almost feel embarrassed for her.

That was jaw-dropping. She responds the way one of our right-leaning brethren here at BWW does: when in doubt (or caught in a lie), change the subject.

But did you see some of the comments? Like the one that said that was a "total gotcha interview."

Apparently asking right-wingers to explain their lies now qualifies as a "gotcha" question.

Michelle Bachman knows she won't be the next president - the whole thing is a scary charade. What she really wants is to be the next superstar of the right, she wants Sarah Palin's sash and tiara and she's going to get it.

And I really hate the phrase "we, the people"...non-conservatives are citizens too, you cretinous witch.

Crazy as she is, she raises TONS of money. She won't get the nom, almost certainly won't be on the ticket, but she will definitely have an influence on the VP choice and platform.

Oh I disagree, Jay. I think that Bachman is so isolated from reality that she thinks she will not only get the nomination, but win.

When the GOP didn't give her the committee chair she wanted after taking the majority she went on the attack rallying her supporters against the GOP and caused an even greater rift in the party.

The party responded very quietly so as not to fan the flames, which Bachman interpreted as a victory. I think she believes the Repubs are afraid of her influence, and will come to support her.

While I'm delighted she'll inevitably pull a Palin and become a laughingstock, I'm also concerned. You never know how things will turn out.

Recall in 2006 when murmurs of Obama winning the nomination started.
"An African American will never be president", "He has no experience", "He's too young and naive in the ways of Washington".

The one thing I have learned is that despite all the prognostications, predictions, and polls what ends up actually
transpiring is usually something that no one even thought of.

In 1976 Ronald Reagan ran for the Republican nomination. He was a laughingstock. He would NEVER win the nomination, much less the presidency.

In 1980, CIA director George Bush ran for the nomination- even Republicans said he had NO Chance.

I think she is the front-runner right now and- as Taz points out- you NEVER KNOW what could happen. Updated On: 6/28/11 at 12:46 PM

Frankly, I think she has more of a chance than Palin. Say what you will about Bachman but she is more serious about the job than Sarah the quitter.

She was on GMA this morning pulling more of the same crap. George Snuffleupagus was asking her about some of her more nonsensical pronouncements, such as her notion that the founding fathers worked tirelessly to end slavery.

When he pointed out that most of them were in fact slave owners, she countered with John Quincy Adams--who was, in fact, anti-slavery but was a child when all the founding was going on.

But did she back down? Nosireebob!

Yea, at this point her biggest downfall is her total unwillingness to admit she was wrong.

She comes off as stubborn and willfully ignorant.
