that is a far busier post than necessary...
I appreciated both your posts.
Then don't read it, love. I just felt like pointing out some of the terrific work that I felt was wrongfully overlooked.
Thanks Jane.
TheActr97J--I really like your list, and your choices, and your snubs.
I'm going out on a limb and going with Marion Cotillard and Tilda for the actresses--I'm pretty much in line in the rest of the categories. But I always like to predict people who likely won't win--swinging for the fences kinda.
I think Marion might take it too.

You think PERSEPOLIS can beat RATATOUILLE? I think it might pull a SWEPT AWAY and surprise us...
it's ratatouille's to lose
and it really was one of the best animated films i've ever seen, and pixar's best film since "finding nemo"
Persepolis was mildly interesting simply because it was different, but it was also tedious and instantly forgettable. Pass.
Ratatouille, on the other hand, was brilliant. One of the best animated films in years, and one of the best movies this year. It should have been up for Best Picture.
Big difference.
i agree best... i would have swapped out atonement for Rata or even Michael Clayton for Rata.
Oh hon, since when has quality had anything to do with the Oscars? My thinking was that it's timely, still in theatres, "different" and A.O. wrote about it prominently a few weeks ago.
I thought RAT was fantastic, but that's neither here nor there...
"Ratatouille" should have easily taken the spot of the pretentious, emotionally distant "Atonement," the dime-a-dozen legal thriller "Michael Clayton," or the glib, unengaging "Juno" in the Best Picture race. "Ratatouille" was a wonderous, truly original confection that was unfairly relegated to a lesser category simply because it happened to be animated. The Best Picture category didn't even come close this year, considering that "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead," and "Sweeney Todd" were all ignored.
in a world where i could have chosen the BEST PICTURE nominees, it would have gone like this:
No Country For Old Men
Sweeney Todd
Zodiac
Ratatouille
Into The Wild
shows how much the academy REALLY disagrees with me... :)
Zodiac was a fantastic movie! Shame it didn't come out in November...
I still haven't had the opportunity to see "Into the Wild". I'm dying to see it!
I was really surprised INTO THE WILD didn't get more nods considering all the love from the SAG.
and the fact that it was such a great movie... its weird, while i really enjoyed "there will be blood" i dont "get" the amount of gushing it gets... it was a very solid movie. but i still enjoyed zodiac more, sweeney more, ratatouille more, and into the wild more...
i actually even enjoyed "away from her" more... and "grindhouse" more! not that either of those should have been nominated for best pic, but i'm just saying...
Swap Zodiac for Michael Clayton.
TheActr, I really dig your list, I couldn't agree more about all the BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD snubs, and your Best Supporting Actress snubs list reads as if I had written it: Jennifer Garner, Romola Garai, and Marisa Tomei.
Thanks Ray.
I was supremely diappointed that Jennifer Garner was ignored. I thought she gave such a fantastic subtle performance. I didn't know she had it in her.
The fact that Before the Devil Knows You're Dead didn't even get a screenplay nomination is just silly!
