Reading in the Post today that the Ziegfeld theater may be no more
It may join the ranks of the Roxy and the Paramount as a victim of progress. A much needed (ha ha) office building may take its place

Hate to see if it's true.
Manhattan’s famous Ziegfeld Theatre may close because of financial trouble

Well, it's not like it's the original Ziegfeld or anything.
That was probably a lot sadder.

The only time I was in the original was for a taping of an NBC game show Haggis Baggis.
I was not into theaters than sadly

I remember seeing a rat run across my foot when I saw the first X-FILES movie there.

Like the corner of my mind...
Most movie theatters have mice and rats due to all the food on the floor. Most abandoned theaters do not have the problem due to their food supply being shut off.
I remember seeing one in the New Amsterdam when it was still showing movies.

Where was the site of the original Ziegfeld Theatre?

The front of the original Ziegfeld was on 6th Avenue, where the Alliance Bernstein building entrance is now, and it stretched back pretty far along 54th Street.

The legit Ziegfeld Theatre was at 54th and 6th with the entrance on 6th Avenue.
After Billy Rose sold it for that office building to be put up, the Walter Reade Theatres built the current film Ziegfeld on an adjacent site. I don't think the current site shares any land with the theatre's site.
The Walter Reade Theatres sold it (and the entire chain) to Cineplex Odious (whose founder is either in a Canadian jail or soon to take up residence there after fraud convictions), and then they sold it to the Clearview chain.
