Total hoax. If she wanted to make a statement why didn't she use a coat hanger? Now THAT would have been something.
What exactly is the video supposed to show? Her bleeding in a bathtub? If she is less than a month along when each of these self-induced "abortions" occurred, what could there possibly be to see with a hand held video camera?

Nothing more than what could be (and probably actually was) a normal menstrual flow.

Doesn't it usually take at least a month for you to determine that you are, in fact, pregnant?

I don't even know why I'm entertaining this by giving it thought, but still. Hoax or not, that's awful.

Whatever happened, it's still disturbing and gross. I'm at a loss of words right now. Regardless of it being a miscarriage, or just her period, nobody wants to see that nasty crap. I'm a female, and I hate dealing with it all together. (Talking about your normal period right now.)

It doesn't add up.

But, regardless, she has approval to install this 'art project'. I am appalled that any faculty member would approve this.

My reaction to this is utter disgust.

Even if she's lying......
How could anyone let her do that? Why is it that people think killing and starving are now considered art? Don't get me wrong, I'm pro-choice, but if she really did this then she has wrecked havoc on her body. Not only is her idea of art disturbing, but she put herself in harm, and her family and friends let her do this?

So total lies and falses news releases are okay if couched under the umbrella of performance art? It's not like she implied these things...she made intentionally false statements.

Good grief. And I still hope she has a hard time getting pregnant when the time comes for her to actually want a child.

Meanwhile, this is just fuel for those who would like to strike down Roe v. Wade.

She's denying that it was a hoax. She saying she did it for over a year, took the pills to induce an abortion, but never took a pregnancy test to see if she was actually pregnant.

For me, the most poignant aspect of this representation . the part most meaningful in terms of its political agenda (and, incidentally, the aspect that has not been discussed thus far) . is the impossibility of accurately identifying the resulting blood. Because the miscarriages coincide with the expected date of menstruation (the 28th day of my cycle), it remains ambiguous whether the there was ever a fertilized ovum or not. The reality of the pregnancy, both for myself and for the audience, is a matter of reading.

Of course, if the blood tested by a doctor, they would be able to tell, but chances of her submitting to that and being openly caught in her lies are slim to none.

Ugh. Even more disgusting. My teacher read one of these articles in an arts class I'm taking, and asked if what she did was art, and there was a resounding "yes" from the class. I was sitting in my seat thinking "did all of you guys hit your head on the pavement on the way to class???" They said it was "performance art" and that it "got people to talk and have a reaction", so therefore it MUST be art. *headdesk*

I don't know why this article made me think of this. But, there is an episode of the Sarah Silverman Program where Sarah meets up with a bunch of girls who are pro life and they protest the Planned Parenthood clinic that she visits frequently. She speaks about how she always gets an abortion when she gets pregnant by sleeping around with some guy and does it as often as one might pop a breath mint.

I am very much pro choice. But, I do think that there should be a logical limit here. I don't think that the way the "artist" got her abortions done so many times is a good thing. Nor do I think that they are a great escape for girls who don't want to get pregnant but never use birth control.

I do think that what this girl did was F*CKing nuts and that real or not real something aint right with her in the head.
