acne treatments

Dont pick at it! It happend to me when I was a bit younger and I have cars on my face. If you tried to pop it and it's NOT scabbed over yet try neosporine(SP?) That helped me some. Also At most stores you can by Acne Free which clears up bad marks on my skin in a short amount of time sometimes overnight. Proactive works just the same as acne free MOST of the time. Using rubbing alcohol on one spot shouldn't be THAT bad, just dont use it all over on your face. and the next morning clense your face, to help it not dry out so much maybe. Im no skin expert but have had my share of horrible things happen to my face.

~EM~

Edit: I have also used Listerine on small spots on my face, hurts like a Bi*ch but it works just as well, my mom used it on her face her whole teenage life and her skin never got bad. She still has really good skin, that she didnt pass down to me. Updated On: 4/22/06 at 06:23 PM

neosporin, emcee! STAY AWAY from the alcohol if your skin dries out...

Also, theres this really good cover up that I have thats non comedogenic. It also has 0.5% Salicylic Acid so it helps prevent and heal acne. Its called Neutrogena Skin Clearing Oil-free Concealer.

Here's something you could try: crush up an aspirin and make a paste with it. Aspirin is made with salicylic acid, which is in a lot of acne products.

Is that any more beneficial than using a product with salicylic acid?

I... don't know. I'm just browsing around Google. There are quite a few hits for "aspirin masques" though, to be used if you have acne.

I never had really bad acne, and just have sporadic breakouts when I don't sleep enough and am stressed...

Tea tree oil... if you use too much it can dry out your skin, but it seems to do the trick for me. I usually put it on a little after I use some toner. It usually works well with some over the counter BP, or SA product.

I think I need to go try some of that stuff that Jaily mentioned. I used to have this acne spot scream that was sulfur based that did wonders...but someone got it for me out of the US...re: acne treatments

A lot of the things I've tried work, but in an on-and-off way. Tea Tree Oil helps, but won't clear it up entirely. :-/

To get rid of redness of zits I've heard putting ice on it will help, but I never tried it.

And for anyone's that wondering about Proactiv, I've been using it for less than a week, but definitely have noticed it helping. Yes, skin condition is cyclical, but I happened to be using it when my skin is usually the worst and this time around my skin was better than it was at my best times before the Proactiv. The only thing is that it has started to dry out my face, so I'm using it only once a day instead of twice. It's really working for me, though, so I'm going to keep using it.

I know there are a few on this thread, but if anyone can provide some other suggestions for reducing redness in pimples, I'd be very grateful! My skin was doing really well last week, and now it's bad again.

I actually just went to the dermatologist today, and she put me on a new pill that's apparently great- it's called Solodyn, I think? I break out when I don't get enough sleep (all the time) and when I'm stressed (all the time). She said it would take about 3 weeks to kick in, I'll let you guys know how it worked! Oh and I forgot to add, she also said that it doesn't make you sensitive to the sun and that there aren't any side effects. Sounds good to me, but we'll see!

I wish I could take one of those pills and have this all be solved, but I'm allergic to the majority of the oral medications. re: acne treatments

I'm kind of glad that this thread was bumped. I have been having such issues with my skin this year. I use Proactiv and it's helped a lot, but there are still a lot of fluctuations due to monthly hormones... anyway, I've made an appointment with my gynecologist to get back on birth control to help regulate some of that. Some of the quick fixes mentioned here are helpful, though... I had heard about applying toothpaste as a quick fix for particularly bad spots, but I'll definitely have to try the Visine thing.

Anyway, I'm not sure about what to use to reduce redness other than what's mentioned here, Em. Good luck with it, though!

Does anyone have an suggestions about what to do to reduce the appearance of scarring that's already happened? Updated On: 7/27/06 at 06:31 PM

I'm using the Nature's Cure stuff right now (I started a few days ago, my mom got it for me) so fingers crossed and all that.

To add another question to the bunch...what can I do about scars? I just have a few, but I would be the happiest girl alive if I could get rid of them.

I read in Cosmo or something, that redness can be reduced by putting Visine (the eye drops) on it. Not sure if it works though.

I did ProActiv for about 2 years. It worked well for quite a while. But eventually it just didn't help clear up my face or anything. I'm not sure if I built up a resistance to it or what.

I just started using Murad. However, as soon as I started using it, my face broke out even worse (tons of whiteheads in the morning). Has anyone else encountered similar problems? Is it bringing everything to the surface or do you think it could be an allergic reaction?
