Posted: 4/6/06 at 11:09pmIt looks a little iffy. If you can, definately consult a dermatologist.

there is a dermatologist at uconn i go to, but it's 4 months to get an appointment.
if the spray worked, their other products probably do... i might just get the spray if it works, since it's less expensive.
right now i'm using st ives stuff and it usually works well for me but i broke out like crazy last week. i think it's beacuse green things are starting to come up outside.
edit: what drew me to it was that the comercial says "all natural. no side effects" but who knows if that's true.

Posted: 4/6/06 at 11:15pmTry some clearasil products. Their face wash, wipes, and vanishing cream work really well for me.

Posted: 4/6/06 at 11:15pmUse products containing benzoyl peroxide, and don't put anything on your face (lotion, makeup, etc) that isn't non-comedogenic. :)

I usually use the St. Ives apricot scrub in the shower to really slough off anything, well, sloughable. Then, while my face is all pink and raw from scrubbing it with apricot hulls, I slap noxema on it and let that sink in for a bit. Feel the burn!!
At least, it's always worked for me.

So do I. Some very handsome ones too.

Posted: 4/6/06 at 11:28pmWhen I was a beauty advisor at Sephora.com, I absolutely swore by the DDF line of products...if your acne is not cystic or severe (in which case GET THEE TO A DERM HENCE!), you may want to try the Foaming Acne FaceWash (the blue one), followed by the Light Day Moisturizer (acne products are TERRIBLY drying to the skin, and if you do not replenish the moisture, you will be flakier than my last pie crust). For those spotty outbreaks that you want GONE GONE GONE, the 10%BP/5% sulfur gel is an absolute MIRACLE.

You have to be really careful with some of that stuff...washing your face too hard/too often is actually worse for it than washing it regularly twice a day. (But yet I'm still guilty of washing it too often...eh.)
Anyway, I just ordered proactiv and my parents are going to bring it to me when they visit for Easter (I'm at college) so I can let you know how I like it...I know that's a few weeks away though, so maybe try Clearasil or Neutrogena products in the meantime.

Ow. Wouldnt your skin all raw all the time then?
No, but that's just my skin. I'm sure it wouldn't work for everyone.
re: acne treatments#16
Posted: 4/6/06 at 11:53pmOh. Youre lucky then. My skin gets dry by just one little spot of anything drying, like benzoyl peroxide. But I guess thats what moisturizers are for.

I've seen this but never tried it. However, I've never really thought too much of this because it is sold over-the-counter at Wal-Mart.
The biggest advice I can give you for acne is Face Wash! I use the Clearsil kind and the Johnson and Johnson Clean & Clear. Also, Wash your face more often. I used to never really wash my face in high school, but now I wash it ever time I feel oily!
After you wash your face, you should put a neutralizer on it, at least that's what I was told, but I haven't been able to find on yet.
Here's is some more advice:
Pro-Active is a complete waste of money!
However, this stuff called Murad was really what finally cured me from acne!
Now I can just use stuff you buy at the store!

Murad products are absolutely fantastic, and there is a complete packaged acne regimen that they've put together for various skin types, available at Sephora. It's a bit on the pricy side, but it is a doctor-developed cosmeceutical product that really works, so it's totally worth it.

My face has be horrible for the last year, I break out when stressed. It's been a VERY stressful year.
Proactiv is really my hero, my face cleared up a lot in a few days. I LOVE it.

There is actually a generic version of Proactiv now. It's called AcneFree and you can get it all over the place. I have been told that it works just as well. I don't know.
I took such a pay cut to move, my best friend takes pity on me. Her mother sends her TONS of stuff that she orders from HSN. She has very sensitive skin and can't wear a lot of what her mother sends. I get all the rejects. I have been using "Clarify Acne Medication: Continuously Clear" and "Emu & Aloe: Soothing Facial Cream." Both are from the HSN Serious Skin Care line. I actually REALLY like them. Warning boys, girl stuff to follow: I went through PMS and getting my period this month without a single blemish. That NEVER happens. I even broke out a little with Proavtiv, but I was really stressed.
TMI, I know. I think I get chatty when I am on Xanax. Sorry.

my saving grace was finally going to see a dermatologist. with that I was prescribed prescription treatments and then moisturizers to battle the excessive dryness as well has having gone through all the prescription pills before finally finding one that worked for me. everyone's skin and everyone's acne is unique and there is no one solution that's going to work for everyone. I still have a blemish or two from time to time, which is my fault for not remembering to go to follow up appointments, but it's nowhere near as bad as it used to be...
