"Saying "Well, I don't know anything about his politics, but personally he seems like a good man" is total bunk, because you cannot seperate his politics from him as a person. His personal psychology determined his political actions...and ALL of it was creepazoid. He used women, he lied to women, he bore children under these false pretenses, and then he blasted ALL of their lives apart."
Personally, for me, I'm not really separating his politics from him as a person, necessarily. What I'm doing is saying that I think he deserves a chance to live his life happily as who he is now. In no way am I saying that he didn't do things that were not right or didn't damage lives, but it seems likely to me that now that he's not in the closet anymore he will not continue to make the same kind of awful decisions he did in the past. If he screws up again in a big way publicly then I'll probably say "f*ck him", but we'll see if that happens.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
