This has all been ha-ha, like, all about self-promotion and gee, romance and love are wonderful.

But on Today, he revealed how seriously whacko he is. He took on Brooke Shields again with new fervor, and told Matt "No, Matt, no, you haven't studied the history of psychiatry like I have!" It was a rage-fueled meltdown, to such an extent that you'd swear he was an ADD kid who'd OD'd on Ritalin (his favorite new scapegoat for all the troubles of contemporary society). He made it freshly clear that Brooke is TOTALLY wrong, and actually stated "there's no such thing as a chemical imbalance." As a sidebar issue, self-promotional exercises like this -- when out of touch, isolated actor/stars assert their "knowledge" of a topic -- do not help the bigger image problem of Hollyweird. Spare me any more Scientology cult ramblings in the name of "the history of psychiatry." For what it's worth, I was Tom Cruise neutral until the last month. Now, I have to look away from the screen when the arrogant, ignorant SOB appears.

"no such thing as a chemical imbalance." Tell that to my ex-boyfriend. As soon as his Prozac kicks in, he'll agree with Tom.

and actually stated "there's no such thing as a chemical imbalance."

Despite evidently having one himself. Bless.

I wish I'd seen this... he seriously scares me! I knew they were banning reviews of the film - they should have gone a step further and banned interviews - self-destruction is not a pretty sight!

Yeah, I caught it this morning. I've been kind of Cruise'd out lately, but when I turned on TV this morning, Matt was just about to start the first segment, so I watched it, and when he said he got a little testy in the second segment, I couldn't help but watch it. What a nut! My goodness!...Did anyone see him on Letterman last night? I watched a few minutes of it, and then had to turn it off. I don't know who was worse, Cruise or Letterman. The basic gist of it seemed to be that the London Squirter epitomizes the scum of the earth. Give me a break. Yeah, it was rude, and if it was an average Joe, or a celeb I quasi-respected, I'd have been significantly more put off by it, but come on. Yeah, it was rude, and kind of tacky, but I think they were a little over-kill on the picture they painted of him.

I think Cruise is officially off his rocker. I think it's not going to be long before they need to call somebody w/ the white coats to escort him off!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

It was one of those media mornings that remind us of our cultural fixation on celebrity at any cost.

We went from Lester Holt saying "late news from Iraq ... 5 female marines killed in Baghdad..." to Matt, "...and now back to my interview with Tom Cruise. He takes on Brooke Shields and Ritalin." It was surreal, an admittedly overused word, but also maddening proof of how much airtime we'll give anyone.

The hook just needs to sneak out and pull him to an undisclosed location, where none of us have to listen to his self-important ramblings.

He is an ass. And he is dangerous.

I buried my partner who took his own life because he suffered from clinical depression and resorted to the most dire behavior because of a chemical imbalance which was the result of a quack telling him to stop his meds and pull himself up by his bootstraps and face life like a man.

I have never had any respect for Tom Cruise. I now loathe him.

Addy, it was very brave of you to share that. Tom Cruise needs to worry about his own mental health, and let others take care of their own.

Well, that is pretty much infuriating. How can he really feel he's an expert in the field!? At least everyone else is sick of him now, too. What a way to end a career!

Only one way to describe him: nutjob.

Meanwhile, the nutjob's film will be a mega-blockbuster! (the second time today I used the word "meanwhile" - watching too many reruns of THE NANNY!)

But, CM2, I do believe the movie will do worse than it should have had Cruise not completely lost his mind. I certainly will NOT be seeing it! (Poor Dakota Fanning---she's so adorable and talented)

I'm with Millie on this, CM2. I think War Of The Worlds will be big but considerably less big than everyone is thinking/hoping/praying it will be. Cruise is alienating people left and right for one thing and for another Spielberg's films have been underperforming for a fair while now, especially his sci fi efforts (AI and Minority Report).

Also, Cruise apparently gets a percentage of all the money this movie makes. So, if you spend $10 to see this movie, you are putting money directly into Mr. Cruise's pocket.

Besides, the trailer looks crappy. I might have seen it because I like Spielberg, but not anymore.

Anyway, it's one thing to argue that psychology is leaning towards overdiagnosing and drugging for too many problems, but (as has been amply pointed out already) what Cruise is saying is moronic. Then again, he adheres to a cult that believes that clinical psychiatry comes from Nzais.

So let me get this straight, Chemical Imbalences don't exsist..........but alien life forms that have taken over our bodies without us knowing do?.......................riiiiiiiight.

Looks like Cruise has gone Bat Sh!t insane like our pal Mel Gibson.

Shame too cause I really thought he was making a turn after Magnolia.

(PS I just logged on to start this very thread, looks like I wasn't the only one who stared slackjawed at the screen whilst eating my Captain Crunch, with Crunch Berries Biatch!)

Wow, I just want some interviewer to ask, "How is it that you don't believe in chemical imbalances when you so obviously have such a severe one yourself?"

Nazi science and aliens? Seriously? I looked it up on Wikipedia and the link is below.

This is an extract:
"By contrast, the governments of Germany and Belgium officially regard the Church of Scientology as a totalitarian cult; in France, a parliamentary report has classed Scientology as a dangerous cult; in the United Kingdom and Canada Scientology is not regarded as meeting the legal standards for being considered a bona fide religion. The nature and status of the Church of Scientology continues to arouse controversy around the world."

I think I'm with the Brits here

*Edited to add: It has a picture of the Church on Tottenham Ct Rd in London that I mentioned!!
