Sounds to me like Mr.Cruise has had an imabalance of "Viagra" lately! What a loser.....
Very shrewd appraisal, NYadgal. Your take on the Stanely piece is spot-on. She did miss the point. (And I, too, appreciate her columns.)
Today's show brought America's Sweetheart back, tanned and chatty, wherein she interviewed not one but two pyschiatrists on Friday's rant without even landing on the hotest sound byte in the Cruise-a-spew: his calling THEIR medical field "pseudo-science." How could she not ask for comments on that? They were respectful, and actually agreed more than they disagreed (Today tried to promo their appearance as a hot debate on Tom's remarks "Does he have a point?" Never bothering to even note, as journalists, that he's an actor and they are medical doctors...) And I loved the Today show's embossed crawl under the two shrinks "CRUISE'S CRUSADE." Crusade, indeed.
At first I thought that Tom and Katie were funny and sorta of a cute thing. Now I'm just scared for her. I will say that Tom's Today show incident has forced me to look into Scientology to see what he is following and it just scares me. The past few weeks have fully changed my opinion of him.

I think Tom should disappear for a while...and Katie should be sent to her parents' home for R&R...

Musicgal--I totally agree. Tom and Katie were so cute in the begining. The Oprah thing was kinda out there, but the Today show thing was beyind belief.
Some of the basics ideas make some sense but Scientology freaks me out too. It seems like you need to spend/donate a lot of money to achieve all the levels (Operating Thetan's). I hope katie wakes up before it's too late. I think Tome Cruise has lost his mind.

He's on Leno right now, but I think it is a rerun....

re: the article on foxnews. i was almost entirely sure that nicole had full custody of the kids, and that they are australian citizens and go to private school. i remember in an interview once her saying something about them enrolling in school, and he has said that they are australian citizens. also, and this may be only a rumour, but i thought that a large part of their break-up had to do with her resistance to scientology and her wish to raise the kids catholic. obviously, that whole thing is none of my business, but i was just wondering if the article got it wrong? it is faux news, of course...
Just giving this a little ba-bump because well, the man is STILL at it. This time he said the following in an interview:
"Of course I believe in aliens. Are you really so arrogant as to believe we are alone in the universe?"
Is it me or could he not have phrased that just a titch better?
Next thing you know he'll be running for public office.
LOATHE.
Hollywood film star and Scientologist Tom Cruise was accused by Australian mental health experts Wednesday of being reckless and irresponsible for attacking the benefits of psychiatry and mood-altering drugs.
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and a national charity, SANE Australia, advised Australians using psychiatric drugs who are concerned by the screen idol's remarks not to change their treatment.
"It is reckless and potentially dangerous of Mr Cruise to make uninformed comments about the treatment of mental illness; many people are well because medication plays an important role in managing their health," said SANE's director Barbara Hocking.
"The stigma and misunderstanding of mental illnesses, such as postnatal depression, prevents help-seeking behaviour for people who are unwell."
The president of RANZCP, Julian Freidin, said: "Scientific research has clearly demonstrated that modern treatments for psychiatric illnesses - including medications - are safe and effective."
The joint statement, entitled "Tom Cruise's 'Mission Irresponsible'", said his comments should be seen in the context of his religious beliefs as a Scientologist.
Cruise created controversy recently when he criticised actress Brooke Shields for revealing that she went into therapy and took anti-depressants to deal with postnatal depression.
Defending his remarks later on NBC television's "Today" show presented by Matt Lauer, Cruise launched into an attack on the whole field of psychiatric medicine, which Scientologists spurn.
"Psychiatry is a pseudo science," Cruise said. "She (Shields) doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt. You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do."
but...but... he knows the history of psycology!!!! and we don't!

Will someone please tell him to shut up? He has no idea what he is talking about and should stop before someone hurts him. He dosen't bother to notice that psycology is usally helpful. After my sister's baby was born she had a case of Postpartum Depression. It was bad enough that she had to be put on Zoloft(sp?) to help it and she is still on it now. But she is doing great now. While he has claimed to study psycology there are people who have studied it for decades and I will listen to them before Cruise.
bgg - you are absolutely right! And, I hope your sister is feeling better
I don't know if this has been posted already. Even if you are planning on seeing War of the Worlds (and since it's a Spielberg flick...I probably will), I think signing your name will still send a strong message of condemnation (even though Tom lives in a bubble and will not know or care).

Interesting petition.
I plan to boycott War of the Worlds.
I will not put a penny in the pocket of Mr. Cruise. I will, however, make a donation to an organization which supports women with postpartum depression.
Wouldn't it have been hilarious if everyone who went to see War of the Worlds bought a ticket for that Hilary Duff movie instead? People would see the sudden box office surge for Duff's movie and be like "WTF?!"
Did anyone see Tom's appearance on The View this morning?
Thanks Tiff for the link. I signed it and stated that I am a proud member of IATSE and SAG.
Signed.
Heard that Brooke Sheilds lobbed a barrage back @ him. Good for you Brooke
Tom needs to take his medication & soon. If it were up to him, no one would be medicated . Guaranteed if old Tommy has a headache, 10 people are there to give him some Tylenol & wipe his tush but he castigates others. Put a sock in it Tommy. Your ranting & raving is losing you a lot of good will
I pity his fiancee
